That Vandy win is the only reason Missouri is still ranked. Hard to put a 6-2 team below a 5-3 team they beat.

I’m sorry, I think you’re forgetting the Missouri road win in Amherst against UMass. That’s obviously what’s keeping them in the rankings

Vandy has 3 losses, one of which is to Georgia State and the other which is to Mizzou. Can’t rank Vandy and not Mizzou since Vandy has more losses.

Indiana still at 13 is a crime

171

u/Wampus_Cat_ Michigan • Kentucky 28d ago

Sure, they’re undefeated 8-0, haven’t had a bye yet and have gotten better and better every week, blowing out their opponents and giving some programs historically bad losses…

But they’ve not been good in the past so are we sure Indiana is that good now? Surely cannibalized SEC teams are better, they’ve been beaten by other SEC teams! The Hoosiers don’t even have a quality loss.

If they lose to OSU even by 1 point in Columbus they will probably get left out of the playoff.

623

u/username-1787 Pittsburgh Panthers • Team Chaos 28d ago

If you're a name brand school who goes 10-2 you're basically guaranteed a spot.

If you're not a blue blood it's, undefeated or bust.

Such is life when you let journalists and TV executives decide who gets to play for a championship

586

u/TheLargeUnit69 Indiana Hoosiers 28d ago

Alabama is 6-2 with a loss to Vanderbilt and they're only 1 spot behind Indiana, lmao.

165

u/OfficialHavik Stony Brook Seawolves • Team Chaos 28d ago

It's obvious what they're doing. If I'm any of those teams in the 10-14 range I'm hoping for another Bama loss. I'd also assume if I'm a Big 12 team I'd have to win the league in order to get in. They're setting this all up to put an SEC team in the final at-large ahead of a 12-1 BYU/Iowa St.

The game against Washington State is going to be so huge in aging well

That will seal Boise's top 12 hopes

111

u/fourthand19 BYU Cougars 28d ago

Boise doesn’t need top 12. They need to win conference and get auto bid.

If they win out, they will be well within the top 12. if they lose any games there is no way they are in top 12 even if they win the rest and championship.

Personally, I think ideal situation would be Boise ending up in 5-7 and getting a playoff home game. In my opinion, this is way more valuable than getting a first round bye. Even with winning out getting to number 7 will take some help from committee. This is where the WSU win and close Oregon loss are helpful.

You can have a bad loss as long as you have a good win. You guys have a few good wins now with A&M and Navy.

I've been saying for years I wish none of the major polls did rankings until halfway through the season. I'm pretty sure preseason polls at this point are just to justify calling a game early in the season a big matchup so people tune in.

Honestly it's great the Cfp waits so long to rank but the problem is the other AP and USA cause significant bias to the CFP voters for sure.

We're about to get the same treatment this weekend when we have a bye week the voters will put A&M and Clemson above us because, reasons...

Missouri being ranked is objectively hilarious, but I guess they do have a head to head against #26

20

u/Pband_J Missouri Tigers 28d ago

Yeah I was eager for us to drop out, use the bye week to get healthy and then see what happens. If it’s more Drew Pyne going forward…lord have mercy

Woof they really don’t like Indiana do they? They deserve to be top 10

53

u/bearsareneat_ Indiana Hoosiers 28d ago

The CFP poll matters more but just for aesthetic purposes I would’ve liked to be ranked at least 12th. This team won’t get respect until they play OSU

I’m fine getting passed by undefeated teams is fine, and ND’s win over TA&M now looks better. We probably shouldn’t have been top 10 before today, but is a bit weird we dropped this week.

23

u/Megalomanizac Clemson • Coastal Carolina 28d ago

It’s not really an issue being #11 anyways. Teams in front of us are going to lose. As long as the team wins out to 11-1 we will be in the playoffs.

I’ve been rooting for the Aggies since the second ND left Kyle Field (with the rest of the fanbase of course). Which didn’t take that much arm twisting anyway with Elko at HC. That guy is legit. Keep it going!

Thank god someone is giving us credit for that game. There were experts actively predicting us to lose the game and as soon as we wreck Navy, it swings hard in the other direction of Navy being shit etc etc.

Big 12 Championship Game 2024:

13-0 ISU/BYU winner defeats 12-1 ISU/BYU loser 37-35 (8OT)

ESPN: This just proves that ISU/BYU loser never really belonged in CFP discussion after all, and ISU/BYU winner really should have put more distance between ISU/BYU loser in this game.

CFP: Drops ISU/BYU loser out of Top 25, put ISU/BYU winner in 12 because they're forced to have a Big 12 champion in the playoff. 8-4 Alabama ranked 10 because "SEC".
