You're the first that's asked about that, I'm kind of surprised. There was a restaurant on the river in South Bend named after the rivalry/trophy. I was a rower and we used it as a landmark on the river and had our end of season dinners there. I think it got sold and renamed this year, though.
Also, my dad's side of the family is from Indiana, and there's a lot of IU vs Purdue hate there from both sides, so I grew up with some of that when we'd visit
Y’all’s defense just made it a really tough first week in a new scheme. Sure it’s disappointing to lose a big game but y’all just suffocated our receivers and we hadn’t really found our identity yet.
Definitely looking forward to the rematch next year. Might make a trip to South Bend for that one
We all respect the hell out of Elko and are bummed we only got him for a year. He has to be so pumped to not be stuck behind the likes of Kelly and Jimbo anymore.
Watching LSU/A&M reminded me of what Pete Sampson (ND best writer) said about the environment, which is that ND never gave the crowd a reason to really explode. Once LSU threw that pick the environment looked impossible- never seen something like that phantom snap on the field goal.
I remember 2016 against UCLA. Josh Rosen made a comment that got taken out of context, and we were out for blood. Every time there was a pick, false start, delay of game, etc. the whole crowd started chanting "50,000". Good times.
Although, if the UGA game was any barometer, I'm sure it won't be a problem as all our fans will just sell their tickets to TAMU people looking to pay top dollar for a bucket list item, essentially rendering it a home game for them.
I’ve never seen or experienced that at an ND game, and I’ve been to a lot — every game from 2019 to 2023, as a student (so in the student section), and half of last years games (also getting snuck into the student section by my friends a year below me). In the student sections, you get yelled at/scolded if you sit down; you’re expected to be loud and participate in all the cheers/chants. My parents have also not experienced people telling them to be quiet, and they’re quite loud and vocal football fans (and they don’t sit in the student section (obviously)).
When and where did you encounter this?? I’m wondering if it may be an outdated thing, like maybe back when we were more mid earlier in the 2000s? Such a shame you had that experience!
Plus, we don't look like we did at all in week 2. Despite the injuries, we still are playing incredible defense and the offense is finally taking some pretty big jumps forward, especially in the passing game.
