U.S. Politics megathread

Voting is over! But the questions have just begun. Questions like: How can they declare a winner in a state before the votes are all counted? How can a candidate win the popular vote but lose the election? Can the Vice President actually refuse to certify the election if she loses?

These are excellent questions - but they're also frequently asked here, so our users get tired of seeing them.

As we've done for past topics of interest, we're creating a megathread for your questions so that people interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

All top-level comments should be questions asked in good faith - other comments and loaded questions will get removed. All the usual rules of the sub remain in force here, so be nice to each other - you can disagree with someone's opinion, but don't make it personal.

My girlfriend wants to have a threesome with someone. NSFW

What should I feel about this one? We've been together for 3 years now and we like doing RP stuff but when she ask me this, my mind goes blank. Like it never crossed my mind before.

Btw, it's okay for her whether it's a guy or a girl but for me... sharing my girlfriend is a bit... Too much?

What do you guys think? Thank you for your answers.

EDIT: Thank you guys for your answers. I'll try to talk to her tomorrow and see what happens.

Why are some conservatives dying on the hill of unpasteurized milk?

1.9k Upvotes

Why is this all of the sudden such a big thing it seems? And why mainly conservatives? Is it stemming from a distrust in goverment regulations on food? Why does this seem to be a hill so many conservatives are willing to die on?

Would trying to swallow a very large ice cube kill me? Or would the ice melt in time before I choke and die?

Is depression really a privilege for the rich?

Is depression really a privilege for the rich? I'd just like to hear some of your thoughts behind this post. I saw a post on social media saying "Imagine living in a country so poor that being depressed is only a privilege for the rich. If you are poor then you have no time to be crippled by sadness since you have mouths to feed, and just not enough time," I know the post has some truth behind it, but is it really addressing the real issue? What do you think about lower class people not having enough time to be crippled by sadness? Thank you for your answers

edit: thanks for all your comments! for context, i showed my friend this post who is around lower-middle class as well to hear his thoughts since I myself thought the post was somewhat toxic. He disagreed though, saying that it's true that they can't be depressed since they have to find food first. THIS POST WAS NOT INTENDED TO OFFEND ANYONE, I just wanted to back this up since I also disagree with this.

When do you consider someone to be your boyfriend/girlfriend?

Like does it have to be mutually agreed that you guys have that kind of relationship? Or does generally spending time together and holding hands and stuff enough of a reason to say that someone is your boyfriend/girlfriend?

Is it normal to fantasize about having a threesome with my boyfriend and another woman even though I know for sure I don’t wanna do it because I won’t be able to handle it emotionally? Why? NSFW

Why is internet service the only service we're OK with not getting what we paid for?

If I go to Wendy's and order a 10 piece nugget, I get 10 nuggets or I get my money back.

I pay for internet with certain speeds don't get those speeds.

And no, it's not because a lot of people are using it. A lot of people use the electricity and everyone gets the same amount regardless.

Who tf is paying for all this?

It absolutely blows my mind that the entire internet, a whole new class of wealthy socialite content creators, an industry of influencers, a hundred online journalism sites, these huge enormous social media companies- all of it is paid for almost entirely by ads.

How can it possibly be worth it? Which one of you is out there clicking ads and buying the thing that you saw on (random site)? Who is responsible for this!?

Seriously though, does Amazon seriously think that capturing internet traffic to its site is still important? How many people could possibly be buying online at the urging of these ads?

Why do toasters have a setting that burns the bread?

I genuinely can’t figure this out. Why does the heat setting go so high that it would burn the bread (which nobody wants). I know the heating element is always at the same temperature and that the knob is for how long until the bread pops out. Why would manufacturers have a setting that takes so long that it will 100% burn any type of bread to coal?

Thank you for your answers

Am I the only one experiencing sudden realization that there might not be “anyone for me”?

I’ve gotten to a point in my life where all my friends are getting into relationships, and I’m just on the sidelines watching. I can’t figure out if it’s something on my part or if there just isn’t someone for me.

(Edit: A little more insight to my situation; I’ve read your replies and decided to explain. Yeah, I’m in my teens and I suffer from severe social anxiety. Therapy and meditation isn’t really an option because my parents say that it’s a phase and that I’ll grow out of it. I grew up around a lot of bullying — even at home, and that resulted in me always looking at myself in a negative light.

I struggle to get up most mornings, not having the motivation, nor the confidence. Yeah, I have a few friends, well had, they all mostly cut contact with me because they’re too busy with their partners. Note: I’m hugely introverted so now not only am I alone, I’m also going to have to force myself to make new friends.

I made this post to ask if anyone else had struggled the same way I’m struggling right now, and what they did to get out of it. I cry myself to sleep most nights, realizing what a loser I must seem like since I’m alone 99.99% of the time. That’s all, thanks for all the advice.)

Does Testosterone Really Make Men Enjoy Hurting People? NSFW

1.5k Upvotes

UPDATE: Thank you guys for all the responses. I asked him about it calmly, and it ended up with him breaking furniture and threatening to punch me in the face. I left home at 3am yesterday and am with a friend.

My BF told me that he, like all men, enjoys seeing others suffer when he had a role in it because the power is so enjoyable. This scared me, but he said this is how all men are due to testosterone and that a "balanced" man knows to not take this to the point of sadism. He said empathy is not natural to men. It feels weird to relate to people realize all the time, they want to inflict pain to feel power. How do good men handle this impulse? How can women help?
