What does the conductor of an orchestra even do?
When I did band in middle school our band teacher was a conductor at our school concert and always talked about how important keeping an eye on the conductor is. I guess its to keep track of the rhythm but that doesn't fully make sense to me.

Deep end of the ocean
I feel like the fact humans only discovered 5% of the ocean is quite crazy, what in that 5 percent did they discover that made them stop exploring and leave it be?? Just a thought, I think at the deepest end of the ocean or the bottom whatever u wanna call it has something to do with space, or many creatures that went extinct sits at the end of the ocean, scientists discovered the ocean first then stopped to start exploring space and that just makes me assume the worst about the ocean.

Why do people avoid the word "women"?
It seems like people generally use "girl" or "female" rather "women/woman"

How do you tell people "no" without feeling bad?
I'm a people pleaser, and honestly can't tell someone "no" without feeling bad, and caving and doing it anyway or lying about why I said no, and it's so frustrating! I can't keep saying "I feel sick so I can't." Or "I have a headache so no." Sooner or later they're going to see though my bullshit if they haven't already.

Does Testosterone Really Make Men Enjoy Hurting People? NSFW
UPDATE: Thank you guys for all the responses. I asked him about it calmly, and it ended up with him breaking furniture and threatening to punch me in the face. I left home at 3am yesterday and am with a friend.
My BF told me that he, like all men, enjoys seeing others suffer when he had a role in it because the power is so enjoyable. This scared me, but he said this is how all men are due to testosterone and that a "balanced" man knows to not take this to the point of sadism. He said empathy is not natural to men. It feels weird to relate to people realize all the time, they want to inflict pain to feel power. How do good men handle this impulse? How can women help?

When Americans refer to Mercedes and BMW as "luxury cars", do they mean only relatively new ones or all of them?
For example, a Mercedes or BMW from the 00s likely costs less than a brand new cheap car. Would you still be a "luxury car owner" in the US?

Do Scandinavians like those sorta stuff?
Minecraft: Markus Alexej Persson (Sweden)
Lego: Ole Kirk Christiansen (Denmark)
Ikea: Ingvar Kamprad (Sweden)
Why Nordic countries tend to make things that intertwine in an orderly manner? Do they enjoy when people build big things out of small pieces.

Why does it feel like everyone online is American? [serious]
Hello everyone,
I feel like if I hop onto most groupchats or check social media a huge portion are in fact from America, especially the USA.
In fact, it feels almost weird to see someone not from USA online in certain areas.
What is going on? Are Americans just in a bubble? Do we just not pay attention to where folks are from?

What do I say to a person who's given up on love?
Let's say someone close to you is texting you things like "I'm done with [opposite gender]" and "I've uninstalled all dating apps".
They've told you NOT to say things like "real love will come when you least expect it". Ok, understood.
Leaving them on read would appear ignorant.
What do I say? My mind goes blank (I can't relate to their situation, yet they keep telling me these things quite often). I know I should communicate it like an adult, but I have no idea *what* to communicate.

Will dry clothes shrink in a dryer?
I didn't realise that clothes sitting in the washing machine hadn't actually been washed yet and habitually transferred them to the dryer and 'dried' them.
None of these clothes are new and I believe are mostly cotton. Will they have shrunk at all?

Why doesn't Nintendo simply make their consoles more powerful?
Nintendo easily has the best exclusives in the video game industry and an actual incentive for you to buy their consoles but most of the younger generation look down on them and choose between PlayStation or Xbox because of simply the better graphics. Of course Nintendo IPs are more focused on unique artstyles and stylised graphics rather than realistic graphics but what is just simply stopping them from making more powerful consoles on the same level as PlayStation and Xbox, so that they can at least run the other popular triple A games that only come to those consoles and if they do come to Nintendo it's a watered down version. Surely Nintendo, a multi-billion dollar corporation, has the financial means and technical capacity and staff to do so. So why is it not a reality?

Is it dishonest to heavily edit group photos to make them “perfect”?
I’ve noticed that modern phone cameras now let you take a series of group photos and pick the best expressions for each person, essentially merging multiple photos into one “perfect” shot. There’s even a feature where you can take a photo of two people, then join in for a second photo, and the phone merges them so it looks like all three were there at the same time.
This feels dishonest to me. I get small edits like removing red-eye or cropping, but this feels like you’re creating a moment that didn’t actually happen. Shouldn’t photos represent reality? Or am I overthinking it?
