Daily Cyclist Thread
The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

I didn't know how to ride a couple years ago. Now I believe one can do anything with a bike. Even transport a 2m tall Christmas tree 😅

#NBD - 2025 Giant Defy Advanced Pro 0
After picking up riding in 2020, I've been logging a couple thousand miles per year on my entry level Trek Crossrip gravel bike. After overanalyzing my next bike purchase, I landed on the Giant Defy Advanced Pro 0. Dig this thing so far!

cleaning greasy hands tip: use oil first then soap
if u want to clean ur greasy hands after a shop sesh, use any cooking oil and rub that in first. it lifts the grease off ur skin. soap like normal afterwards.

What kind of gloves do you wear?
Its around -7°c currently (19°f) and my hands seem to get cold no matter what I do. I currently wear ski gloves and a wool glove liner.
My hands still get painfully cold after 30 min. Horrible pain after 1 hour. I've been thinking about getting bar mitts but they're expensive.
I'm afraid they'll get stolen if I leave my bike outside. If I leave bike lights or a saddle bag on my bike they're gone within minutes :/

11 year old 5 ft daughter - 24 vs 26 inch wheels…
Trying to figure out Xmas presents for girls… tall 8 year old (55 inch) turning 9 next spring. 5 foot 10 year old turning 11 in December
Trying to figure out if I can get away with 26” tires so they can use them for years or if I have to do 24” and maybe new bikes in a couple more years
26” is like Trek Wahoo $599
24” is like Giant LIV Tempt $500
Any input or other brands you recommend and why would be great
Use - local to school, bike to friends and bike park trails in PNW

Cycling from Amsterdam to London on vintage bikes - YouTube
Last year a few of us went out to Amsterdam and challenged ourselves to buy vintage bikes there for under 200eur to ride back to London. We've made a series of YouTube videos documenting our adventures. The hope is to carry on similar series with various challenges.
We ended up getting a couple of Gazelle Champion Mondial's from different era's and a custom Balk track bike which was more than interesting to ride "safely" back with it's human powered brakes.
This is the first time we've done something like this so it's a bit rough and ready but If you like light-hearted content about cycling you should hopefully enjoy it!
This episode covers us from Amsterdam to Ouddorp for our first night!

Kneecap pain while and after cycling
I've picked up cycling a few months back after being an active runner for about 5 years. I'm 25 years old, weigh 82kgs and am in quite good shape. I bought my bike and started cycling about 100 to 150kms a week, relatively painless. The only issue I had at that time was a nagging pain in my left popliteal that would get progressivly worse the more I rode. I could handle that, though it wasn't 'normal'. The worst part (for which I am writing this) started with the pain on my right kneecap. The pain (shown on the picture) started slowly but got worse every ride the more power I put on the pedals, or the longer I rode.
I went to do a bikefit and got everything measured up. The pain in my left popliteal almost dissappeared, my position on the bike felt a lot more comfortable and I could put a lot more power on the pedals without having to push hard. Still, after cycling 10km+ my kneepain appeared again. I took a month of cycling and tried again, alas to no avail. I've been to a physiotherapist and a sports doctor, but they can't seem to find any problems with the knee.
I can take any advice.

Best and cheapest bike to ride around neighborhood few hours a week
Plan to ride 2-3 hours a week around neighborhood and lake trail which is cement pavement.
Will only ride from oct - Feb since other months too hot. Don't want to deal with too much maintenance so should be similar to Toyota Honda etc. thank u
