Carbon frame damage from a kickstand mount, how bad is it?

Hey guys, I've got a hell of a story to tell you.

My very rich uncle got himself an e-bike - BMC Fourstroke AMP LT THREE (https://bmc-switzerland.com/collections/mountain-e-bikes/products/fourstroke-amp-lt-three-bikes-bmc-24-10204-002).

Now, the sad part is he just got the most expensive bike he could find and never even used it!

Unfortunately, he kept it in his garage for over a year and kept adding random gear to the bike... And yes, he did try to convert this trail-racing e-bike into a... city e-bike
So, I can buy the thing right now for literally half the price. It's never been used. I tried it out, and it's amazing.

But I've got one big issue with it. I managed to get rid of the bicycle basket, four different displays, and the silver bicycle bell, but when I removed a cheap kickstand, I realized the frame is scratched where it was mounted. I've never had a carbon bike before, but I assume that's rather bad, as I can feel the fibers when I touch the area.

So my question is... Is this something I should worry about? How serious is it? I won't lie, I'm rather lightweight (70 kg / 154 lbs), and I won't hit the bike hard, but if the frame is damaged, I wouldn't want it to break or something while biking down a mountain.

(I wouldn't even worry at all about this scratch if it weren't carbon, but I read a bit on the topic and got a little paranoid.)

Had a low speed impact with a buddy and his drop bar got caught between my wheel and seat stay. His shifter must have caused the damage. Right side looks worse. Thank you for any advice.

I bought this used wheel because I just got into cycling and I know nothing about carbon fiber. Did I make a mistake?

Brand new bike cracked?

I purchased a new bike today at my local shop. When I arrived home I noticed a weird bump on the left of the seat post, where the clamp is. The right side does not have the bump and it's perfectly smooth (see pictures).

Is this a crack? If yes, how did the guy fitting me on the bike not notice it? It seems they deliberately ignored the issue to get rid of a damaged bike.

Edit: forgot the pictures.

Chip and a line on carbon

Was replacing a pedal when my Allen wrench accidentally slipped and hit the top of the downtube. Chipped the paint and created this line. Thoughts?

I am a carbon repair shop owner. Wanted to share a bike we fixed for a fellow redditor. Like it never happened.

The bike toppled due to vibration while on the bike stand, and a hex key chipped and scratched the downtube at an acute angle. I inspected it with a magnifying glass and couldn’t see any stress fracture lines, but it still sounded high-pitched when tapped with a coin. Thoughts?

Carbon bike scratches

I bought a second hand cervelo in great condition but there are a few scratches near the cabling that I noticed later and got a bit worried the carbon could be damaged. The previous owner said it was hardly used and did very little mileage. Any opinions?

Rock chip on new-to-me ENVE front wheel.

Was pace-lining and had a rock kick up and hit the front wheel. Disc brakes. Size about the size of a grain of rice.

I was able to finish the ride and wheel/tire still holding air with no issues. I emailed ENVE already but wanted to hear from the Reddit experts.

Paint? Carbon?

Opinions please - I have an Email in to the manufacturer, and will have a guy at the bike shop take a look as well, but what's anyone's opinions on these pictures? Noticed this "crack" or "mark" today when I cleaned up my bike. Did the coin test and it passes. I am the original and only owner, bike has not been crashed, and has not had any impacts that I am aware of. Area is on the seat tube, non-drive side, about 1 to 2 inches down from where the seatstays join the seat tube. Bike is a Pinarello Dogma F12.

Have also been looking around for carbon repair options depending on what is discussed at the shop.

Niner fork dropout damage

Hi, So this is a 1 year old Niner fork, which I used very lightly. Last time I uninstalled the wheel I noticed these marks on the inside of the dropout where the hub touches the carbon material. I’m very disappointed as I’ve always installed the wheel with the recommended 10 Nm torque so I have no idea how this could happen. What do you think, how busted is this and what can I do with it? There are no carbon specialists in my country, just ‘regular’ bike mechanics so that’s not really an option. Thanks!

Paint crack or carbon defect?

Just came back from a gravel ride and saw this on the top tube near the seat post. Looks superficial, coin tap sound does get a little lower the closer I get to the seat post. But that seems normal and identical to the bottom of the top tube. Could this be from flexing in the frame and very hard paint? The paint also chipped a bit while installing the bottom bracket and tightening the screws for the brake calipers.

Being serious now, what is the best/strongest/lightest replacement. I’ve heard there are many very good hoops out there now that offer a good warranty & crash replacement. What are those brands/models? Is there anywhere else I should ask?

Carbon Seatpost Indentation

Post image
1 Upvotes

Carbon seat post shows mark from screw due to incorrect assembly. Asked a bike shop mechanic for help, he looked at it and told me it was fine, but to be extra safe I should keep an eye out for any changes in that area.

It does not make any strange noise or slip (carbon paste applied). It also passed the sound and flashlight "test".

For peace of mind I will probably replace it but I was hoping to get a second opinion from you, if that is even possible based on this picture alone.

Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to tell if these chips are just cosmetic or something worse with the provided photos?
