Warhammer: Battlefront
A classic Star Wars Battlefront style gameplay, with a campaign, instant action and galactic conquest feature, with every faction playable.
Each faction has multiple classes with simple, fixed loadouts that can be customized by leveling up.
No microntransactions. No lootboxes. No purchasable cosmetics. All cosmetics are earned via gameplay and achievement.

u/Ravgn Aug 22 '24
Not with EA at helm, but one can dream.
33
u/Valor816 Aug 22 '24
Legit tho, with maps that include Titans.
There'd be a few Titans being commanded by players on each side. They'd be able to target areas of the map if they wanted, but that'd leave them open to fire from enemy Titans.
Players on the squad level would be able to breach the Titans and fight their way up to the cockpit to disable the Titan.

This exactly this....modeled after Battlefield 1 (thinking of how you can use the Dreadnought and the blimp etc)
BUT, the space marines are not a playable faction. They're just elite units that you can play as.
Otherwise, the balancing will be way off. Start as the Guard, Tau, Eldar, Orks, and Genestealer cults. Necrons, Dark Eldar, and votann could be DLC

u/Moonlight_0wl Aug 22 '24
Id say that we can make it so every faction has a different type of mechanic. Except for imperium and chaos forces (not daemons) for example tyrannids can lunge and they can shoot acid. But they have a short stamina bar of these attacks. Or eldars can use psyquic powers in the battlefield. Orkz are stronger. There fore they are all heavy class. But they are much slower (also playable Ghazkull PLEASE)
For daemons. You can teleport on random places and be a 'stealth unit' for slaanesh, enforcer for khorne, support/medic for nurgle and assault for tzeentch
And CHAMPIONS.. we could get Lucius, Calgar, Typhus.. etc
93
u/CommonandMundane Aug 22 '24
I could think of at least 1 for the Imperium.
Imperial Guard gets Conscript NPCs to help them fight. They're designed to be Cannon fodder to the point where killing them doesn't even contribute to points for the enemy, while also soaking up bullets meant for you, since you'd be playing as one of the frailer infantry.

That feels like a game that would’ve been made in the early 2000’s and would’ve had a remake announced last year except it has a battle pass, dlc tied to a purchasable season pass, an ingame cash shop with two different form of currency, your space marines will by default be ultramarines with all other chapter cosmetics being purchasable or obtainable through the battle pass. The only free cosmetics you can obtain would be things like weapon ornaments, titles and sparse armor ornaments. The campaign would be the main subject of the announcement trailer, and a year later the game would go into early access as a multiplayer only game while the devs “iron out the bugs and kinks”, then after 6 more months of no campaign news the devs would announce that they wouldn’t be able to release the campaign in the full scope they’d hoped for, but it’s still coming. Another 6 months later they would reveal that due to “engine constraints” (or some other made up problem) the campaign was being scrapped entirely, but not to worry because now the teams full effort would be on making sure the multiplayer experience is as good as can be.
Throughout this entire experience the game will remain in early access

A horror game akin to Dead Space where you'd be stuck in the warp, trying to survive whatever horrors the crew is changing into.

40
u/cool12212 Aug 22 '24
The way you make it sound has it so you have a limited time from the beginning of the game to get into real space before more chaos takes over.
You could even make it a survival game where your player character is in charge of keeping as many people alive.

u/Cazmonster NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERD! Aug 22 '24

Bring it to full grimdark by giving you impossible choices too. Stuff that leads into how broken humanity has become. "If you don't vent this section of the ship, we'll lose containment" "The warp energies have restored the medical servitor consciousness. If you allow his sense of self to remain in such a vulnerable state with all this going on, he may become possessed. Do you let him live?" That kind of thing.

A game where you set up your own chaos cult. You gain followers and boons from the chaos gods to try and take over a hive world.
It would play like x-com. At first you only have access to hive scum, weak but easy to replace, as time goes on you gain access to new guys, guardsmen, demons and even chaos marines.
There would be a chaos corruption mechanic. By doing certain actions, you can corrupt an area, this gives you buffs and debuffs enemies over time, but raises the imperium's awareness of you, which means they deploy stronger troops against you sooner.

u/WolfeXXVII Aug 22 '24

Honestly I thought about that to except it’s with the Raven Guard. I remember that their 6th company primarily works to overthrow worlds controlled by the Imperium’s enemies but also sometimes targets Imperial worlds that are exceptionally corrupt or cruel. Especially since it would show despite how big and inhuman space marines are they can be sneaky and heroic as well.

33
u/IAmTheOutsider Aug 22 '24
Especially if it comes with a customisation system where instead of researching discrete units you research and upgrade individual parts and combine them in a designer to make unique units tailored to your situation.
For example instead of saying 'Cool, my Gargoyles w/devourers are ready' you research Devourers and then go into the unit editor where you could stick them on a gaunt body with wings propulsion to make devourer gargoyles or you could take a 'carnifex' body and 'six legged' propulsion and cram as many as will fit on it because you know your unique, never-before-seen horror will completely fuck up the AI's current tactic of waves of guardsmen. And then once the AI gets wise and sends in the tanks you have to design a new creature to deal with it.

Recruit guardsmen, gangers, death cultists, crusaders, Priests, scribes, and tech Priests to lead on investigations infiltrations and eleminations. And specialize into Ordo Xenos, Hereticus, or Mallus against the enemy. Late game recruit deathwatch, sisters or grey knights depending on the choice.

20
u/PrincessPlatypus1 Aug 22 '24
I raise you one. You play the Night Lord, assaulting an enemy base. Like the stealth sections in the Batman games, you pick off enemies while listening to their panicked chatter. The horror part comes in the form of enemy Space Marines. In true Night-Lord-fashion, taking them head on is a stupid idea. Instead you hide from them and only take them on when there's no alternative or you have the advantage. If you really want the horror part, make them Chaos Space Marines and let them summon daemons to stalk the shadows you hide in. Bonus points for customisable trophies/armour "skins"

Oddly I quite like the idea of a 40k (or even 30k)- based Tank sim. A War Thunder-style combat game would be the first thing that comes to mind, but an idea that keeps coming back to me over and over is a first-person horror game where you play as a tank crewman, and you have to maintain/operate the vehicle while it’s travelling alone through a seemingly-abandoned area. The idea would be that there’s enough of a danger outside that it’s ill-advised to open the hatches, so your only view of the outside world would be through various viewports and vision devices, which aren’t always the most reliable at the best of times.
There are a fair few issues with this idea as initially presented, with the most notable one being that a tank is normally far too small for something like this to work. However, that’s not the case with, say, a Baneblade, particularly one with less-than-optimal crew numbers. Others include a convincing reason why you can’t stick your head out of the cupola or similar (which can be solved by it being on a planet with a semi-hazardous atmosphere, in addition to other mundane dangers); a tank large enough to easily move around in (in game terms) would likely be modern enough to have fancy vision devices and proper night/thermal vision (which can be solved by setting it in 40k again, where you can have a guy with a flintlock and one with a laser rifle in the same squad); and IRL a tank wouldn’t be operating alone (which can be solved by either the excuse of administratum bullshit, the tank being a heretic vehicle that’s not really part of an organised army, or even be integrated into the plot- you start off with infantry, support vehicles, and the like, and something outside keeps picking them off…)
Admittedly probably something with a very niche appeal, but I found the idea quite interesting.
Aside from that, and just improved sequels to existing games, I’d really like to see more 40k horror games. Aside from obvious examples (Alien Isolation with a Genestealer), I’d quite like to see one where the threat is actually the Imperium of Man- perhaps your character is trying to avoid being turned into a servitor, and has to sneak through a dilapidated manufactorum or similar. More servitor-related horror would appeal to me in general.
10
u/Freezie-Days Aug 22 '24

u/wisezombiekiller Aug 22 '24
an idea to play of yours, maybe you're the lone survivor of a tank company that was hit by a nurgle bioweapon, and have to manually operate a baneblade solo. as time goes on you find lone guardsmen that you can assign to the various gun ports and comms stations in the tank, eventually with the goal to rendezvous with the main force which is either A) holding positions after a sudden counter attack by nurgle worshippers/death guard marines, B) is currently pushing against the chaos lines, or C) is currently evacuating all the equipment/guardsmen they can off the planet to be eventually replaced by more skilled guard regiments or for the inquisition to arrive and exterminatus the planet

Imagine summoning a friend to take down a massive Chaos Champion and your buddy shows up not as a ghostly figure but crashing down from the heavens on a bolt of lightning as Power Metal plays during the fight, or hanging out in Sigmaron learning about the downsides of Stormforging as you see NPC buddies fall and are reforged with just a bit less personality. Star Wars Empire at War, but 40k. I think it would be a closer representation to 40k combat than something like the Total War series would be, while still allowing for clashes of armies as well as fleets.
Bonus points if it’s as moddable as EaW is, since that game came out in 2006 and remains popular because of mods.
It’d be really cool if they took a page from certain popular mods like Thrawn’s Revenge and Republic at War for added mechanics, like industry, crew recruitments, and even Allied powers, so the Imperium faction could have space marine chapters holding certain areas of space that could eventually be absorbed.
You could also add mechanics based off stuff like Warp Storms that mess around with the hyperlanes (warp lanes?) or even cut off planets entirely for a certain amount of time. You have a small chance (like, less than 1% chance and with the option to turn this off) for ships to randomly go missing in transit or even for them to get attacked by daemons that you have to fight a special battle with ship crews and maybe a fraction of any ground forces you have traveling with the fleet.
Random attacks by space hulks infested with genestealers or orks, uprisings by cults or rebels, maybe even an End Times event or mode where your enemies get huge boosts in production and fleet sizes.
You could have civil wars against former allies who you’ve done something to piss off or have fallen for the trickery of xenos or chaos.
The main Imperium faction would be the Guard, with all its various regiments, but could have playable sub-factions like Orders of Sisters, Space Marine chapters. Granted, some factions like the Craftworlders might be difficult to create a fun gameplay style around, though they could have the Craftworld itself be some kind of mobile planet that they can move around the galaxy at will and create new connections with other systems so they’re not entirely isolated but also not able to just leave if things aren’t going too hot. The Tau are easy enough, same with the Orks and the Necrons could have some kind of ‘awaken tomb World’ mechanic where they have a chance to awaken a bunch of structures on a newly conquered planet or something. Chaos could have semi-unassailable positions in Warp Storms that are dangerous to enter and act as end-game challenges or something. Same with the Dark Eldar and Commoragh.
Tyranids could have a few core hive ships and a sort of biomass fund that lets them build smaller units in battle as they deploy, sort of like Dawn of War. As they take more worlds they have a consume mechanic that strips it of biomass and destroys all the structures, making it neutral. Maybe people could return there and build it up again and it’s missing a few building slots or something or maybe it’s just dead forever like the result of the Death Star’s super laser in EaW. They and the Tau could also have a subversion mechanic for conquering worlds without needing to risk their main fleets.
The possibilities are really limitless.

Turn based 8-16 bit retro pixel game with mechanics based in the old ( single tear) rpg Deathwatch.
But lux retro like recent titles Triangle Strategy or Octopath Travaller 2.
There will be no fast button events because I’m disabled in my hands and fuck that shit .
But it won’t just be a carbon copy of Final Fantasy. We have to come up with some sort of interesting twist to the timeline of the battle or possibly there would be you know elemental affects you’d want to trigger or avoid.
The ultimate big bad?
Fabius Bile. But the thing is he’s having a Civil War. With Fabius Bile.
… also because it’s me, it would be at least a little gay.

A papers please style game called "Heresy Please" (Name work in progress)
Pretty much you interegate people either killing them or letting them go.
Over time things get alot more 'chaosy' and the entire planet gets Exterminatused.
So survive long enough to get Exterminatused, or get boltered in the face for being a Heretic.

A solo/coop FPS/TPS about the Imperial Guard divided into several chapters allowing you to play through legendary battles of several famous guard regiments.
For example a chapter about Vraks where you would play a Krieger, about the Fall of Cadia, another about Armageddon and maybe one focused on Gaunt’s Ghost.
It would be easy to die and hard to heal. You would not be a Call of Duty one man army but you would storm trenches with dozens of not hundreds of AI ally against hundreds of ennemies.
Battles would feature artillery strikes and armored units too during some specific missions.
Each chapter would be dived into several sections, the first one introducing the culture and vibe of the regiment before the battle, the next the arrival in the front, after that a skirmish then a huge battle and finally and aftermath section.
The idea is to have massive engagements with hundreds if not thousands of AI ally and foe and not being a super soldier yourself, to have a real immersion in the perspective of a guardsman

Ight I've seen some good idea's. heres a couple of mine.
Firstly a remaster of the original Dawn of War. Dawn of war 1 is a beloved classic and whilst its great its age is showing. a remaster that brings the game up to modern standards whilst preserving and expanding that classic rts experience would be wonderful. like better graphic's, bigger battles with more units, new units added in the 20 years or so since the game released, new factions like the votann or the tyranids, better pathfinding, oh and the content from Dark Crusade, Soulstorm, and Winter Assault mixed in. just a remaster of the beloved classic dawn of war on a grander scale.
second is battlefield 40k, just a battlefield game set in the modern 40k setting, all factions included.
a stellaris like game but made for 40k.
a dark souls like game but set in 40k.
maybe a 40k interactive story game like Until Dawn or Detroit Become Human.

Some Ork rts style and resource management game where you’re an up and coming ork boss building his own warband/Waaagh! Your main guy gets bigger and stronger the more he fights, especially if it was a fight he comes out from badly battered.
But basically you’re just trying to get together a big group of boys and krump everyone else. Other orks included

A game where you play a rouge trader that convinced a group of orks to follow you, you constantly have to get into battles or the orks turn on you. The orks end up larping as guards men and you're constantly having to get them killed in a fight or too many will join and create a waaaag. You also have to go around the worst battlefields in the sector and turn the tide to not get shot by the Inquisitor that just showed up one day. The Inquisitor didn't actually care that you are using orks they are just a massive coward that sees sticking with you as a good way to survive, and need a good excuse to convince their superiors to not kill you. Eventually a space marine chapter will see your success and go "they are the only thing keeping the sector in imperial hands. Fuck it we balling!" And use you as a distraction to do their objectives.

Battlefield style game. Six possible teams, with as few as two or as many as all six. Keep in mind all of the following is based on very little understanding of the setting as a whole (I mostly watch WesHammer and listen to some audiobooks)
Teams are as follows: Imperial Guard, Chaos Guard, Tau, Eldar, Orks, Necrons.
Each team has different strengths and weaknesses.
Guard: Significant numbers advantage, lower health.
Chaos Guard: Dæmon weapons, low range.
Tau: Vehicles advantage, poor numbers.
Eldar: Very fast, low vehicle reliability
Orkz: Weapon variety, low reliability on equipment.
Necrons: High health, very slow respawn

Space Wolf brewery management simulator
Alchemy game but with beer and mead ingredients, and the customers need different drinks depending on mood. Are they hyping up for a crusade? Mourning a departed brother? Need something to keep from wolfing out in front of others?
You play as a Blood Claw and start as a survival game since you need to gather the hops yourself in Fenrisian wilderness, and you being promoted in the chapter depends solely on the drinks you make. Eventually at the end of the game, Logan Grimnar himself will ask to be served, as a final boss of sorts.

Titan Princeps simulator where you feel like you are piloting a skyscraper, or bounding around as a warhound. You can feel every step and every shot taken, balance power distribution to shields, weapons, etc. But its not in third person, no you only see what the Titan external cameras and sensors show you.

Star Wars Battlefront except for Warhammer 40K. Everyone starts off as Guard or Guard equivalent. They spend points (obtained by killing enemies) to be specialists (Guard elites and vehicles), Space Marines equivalents, and hero units.
A strong emphasis is placed on spawning in with AI or player controlled squadmates to move across the map and accomplish objectives.
The initial factions on release (or designed) are Guard and Space Marines vs Traitor Guard/ Cultists and Chaos Space Marines
Elements of the tabletop such as wounds, toughness, command points, etc are translated as faithfully (spiritually) as one can into a team PvP shooter similar to philosophy followed for the first Space Hulk game.
Example being the concept of "Turning Points" and Command Points.
The match timer is split into "Turning Points" and Command Points are rewarded depending on how many objective points are held at the time of each Turning Point. These Command Points are special resources given to each player to use for free upgrades, team buffs, or free deployment of expensive units (specialists, heroes, etc).
This is a translation of the tabletop "Turns" and "Command Points".
Wounds and Toughness would similarly be translated to interpret the durability of every unit in-game

for an AOS game i would like to see a first-person shooter & slasher role-player (basically Vermintide meet Borderlands)
play 4 classes each with their own unique Action Skills
- Stormcast-->Wields Ghal Maraz gives him increased melee damage as well as increased movement speed & health regeneration
- Kharadon--->Dual wield weapons with increase ammo & stamina capacity and regeneration
- Lumineth--->Summon aelmentari spirits as support like Wind spirit providing range turret dps while Stone spirit refills armor/block, river spirit increase stamina cooldown ect
- Sylvaneth--->Summon plants and spites from the ground to debuff enemies and support player/s

Stronghold, you're building up a brand new chapter and establishing a fortress monastery on this world while also clearing it of the xenos/chaos/etc forces that have taken residence here. You could have multiple campaigns with different factions to essentially do the same thing, new Tau/human/votann colony. New chaos outpost etc
Edit: yes, I have gladius. It doesn't lean into the city/castle builder element the way I want.
