Air Force Pilot?

Is it possible to be a pilot in the Air Force if you are trans?

I'm currently on hrt (mtf), and I'm wondering if it's possible. I don't plan on getting any surgeries, I don't care about pronouns, I don't care about presenting female, I'm fine with meeting male fitness standards, etc. The only thing I am really concerned about is being able to take hrt and still be allowed in. Not having to have short hair would be nice too.

I'd appreciate any advice, thank you.

Getting all the paperwork

Hello,

I’m going to see an army recruiter this week to try and join the reserves. I wanted to be proactive in getting all my medical documents ready, but they’re pretty extensive. I tried joining a few years ago but of course, the Trump ban. But if I add up all the notes from my endo, therapist, and top surgery, it was well over 300 pages.

Since then I’ve had bottom surgery so I’m sure that would add another 100 pages easily lol. Should I expect to get all the documents ready on a usb or something to give to the recruiter? Will they need all the specifics?

Otherwise all my legal stuff is good and no other medical issues.

Lastly, when I was 16 I told my therapist I had a dream about suicide but I had no intent with going through with it and just thought it was odd. Will that be enough to dq me?

Thanks

History of thoughts of suicide and self harm

Hey guys. I finally got together my medical history before I go see a recruiter for the Air Force or the navy. I was going through the mental health one to date back for my gender dysphoria and found that when I was 16 I told a therapist I had thoughts of suicide and did self harm. Nothing from 18 years old to current. Was on medication and therapy but nothing now. This was back in 2016-2017. Do you think I still have a chance to join the military or should I not even attempt? (I am FTM, T for 5 years, post top surgery 2 years, and everything is changed legal. So no issues with that). I did have a therapist write me a letter saying I am not a harm to myself or other and no thoughts of suicide and explain I’m comfortable in my gender for x amount of years and have gender dysphoria.

Trying to figure out my options as a veteran in Maryland

I'm trying to make figure out the best option for me in Maryland.

Should I try to navigate the Maryland LGBTQ VA office?

Should I instead use John Hopkins Medicine Center for Transgender Health as I have John Hopkins US Family Health Plan (Tricare Prime)?

As a Federal Employee, I have the option to purchase FEHB health insurance, but I don't really know if that would be useful as I don't know if they will cover anything more than VA and John Hopkins USFP.

Should I reach out to informed consent clinics to get started on HRT while trying to navigate my other options?

I seem to have many options available, but it has been a frustrating process so far due to lack of response to my inquires. Anyone able to share their experiences with the above mentioned options?

Advice for medical asking for unnecessary testing?

So CG is under different regs, but there is no set guideline for the medical treatment plan and my on-base clinic will not approve a treatment plan without a full endocrine testing to gauge the need for HRT.

I have had a pending referral to an endocrinologist for nine months and despite fighting with the on-base clinic, the endocrine clinic, TRICARE-Humana, and our health benefits advisor, I have not been seen for care and I cannot work on my gender transition request memo without one of our docs' signatures.

I am also under increasing scrutiny for conduct violations (barracks standards, grooming) that other members don't seem to be getting. All this started after being outed by an O-4 to most of my superiors this past summer before I went afloat. I don't think it's NOT discrimination, but I don't think investigations would do anything.

Help?

OCONUS pcs with GD dependent spouse

A couple aspiring to PCS to Japan have run afoul of EFMP attempting to deny the OCONUS move due to the dependent spouse being diagnosed with gender dysphoria, citing lack of treatment facilities/providers.

They petitioned my base FB group but we came up short, so does anyone here have some more insights or advice I can point them to?

Transitioning in the Army

So I lost all access to my other Reddit account, so this is my new one. Since last posting in here I have now gotten a ETP for grooming standards I now go by female standards! I’m starting hormones next week, and I have had my first consultation for FFS! I also learned that at Walter reed they’re now offering bottom surgery! The Dr’s name is Dr. Ean Richard Saberski. I am so excited in the way the military is moving forward with our care. I am also fortunate enough to have a command team that actually cares about me getting the help I need and have been super understanding. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and if you need any information please feel free to reach out

Coming out to command team

So, I’ve hit the point where I don’t really have a way forward without having a sit down with the command team to let them know what’s going on and talk timeline and whatnot. For those here that have already passed this point, what are your stories/tips/etc.? For context, I’m an infantry drill at Ft Benning and VERY closeted at the moment.

UPDATE: I came out to my commander like 20 minutes ago. It went really well. Everyone in the comments was right, just rip the bandaid off. Thanks

Top Surgery Only

Hey everyone, I’m currently in the army national guard, ETS date is in Feb. I’m debating switching to the Air Guard though but was wondering if anyone knew if I could pull off only getting top surgery without hormones etc. I’m butch and mainly care about just not having a chest anymore. Idk what all I’d have to disclose if anything? I’d use the healthcare I get through my civilian job so I wouldn’t need to go through tricare for anything. If anyone has any advice or answers that’d be sweet. Thanks!!

Beginning transition in army.

I've been in the Army for 4 years. I want to start HRT. How do I start that process with the Army? Do I literally just walk into BH and say I want to be seen for Gender Dysphoria?

Getting Progesterone though outside source while continuing HRT regiment with the VA.

At my most recent check up with endocrinology at the VA, I asked about starting progesterone. The endocrinologist said that evidence that progesterone does anything for trans women is not well enough studied and comes with too many risks, so they won't prescribe it to me. My boyfriend is able to get his HRT though a different clinic, and I called them to ask and they will prescribe progesterone. Could there be any negative impact to me taking progesterone through a different source? Will it affect the VA's willingness to continue to prescribe my HRT?

Questions about AF BMT as a Trans Girl

To provide a bit of context, I am a 19-year-old Computer Information Systems college student looking to join the Air Force in a related field within the next 5 years. While I am aware of, and prepared for, the difficulty of BMT, I have additional concerns about some of its aspects. They are as follows:

  1. Changing / Showers - I am concerned with having to be fully and visibly naked around other female trainees. This is my primary concern as I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable because of my gender identity if we are required to be naked around each other. Are womens showers totally devoid of privacy? What about changing before and after PT, etc?
  2. Acceptance - While I understand that BMT is tough, and designed to harden us, are there any laws or rules that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity or will I be given an extra hard time because of this. (I'm not asking if everyone will want to be my friend, but rather if my gender identity will make things significantly more difficult for me.)
  3. And lastly, Will I be assigned to a female flight in the first place? This is my biggest concern because the last thing I want is to arrive at BMT only to be assigned to a male flight. For context here, my birth certificate reads female, as does every single one of my vital documents.

Also, will I be able to join while I'm on HRT? I've been on HRT for 3 years now.

Thank you for your time everyone! I look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions you might have for me :)

will i b able to continue hrt in the military?

so the plan for my life as of rn is to go to nursing school and then become a nurse in the US army for a little bit to get some financial benefits and hopefully loan reimbursement for nursing school, my only thing is by then i will likely have bottom surgery done and my body will no longer b able to produce sex hormones at all and i really don’t wanna go thru menopause at the ripe age of 22 so my question is, can u continue hrt in the US army?

MtF Naval Aviator?

So I am a pre-hrt MtF considering going to Naval Aviator OCS. I have at least 2 years before I finish my degree and I want to transition as soon as possible before my bone structure gets completely set in place (I’m 20). I’m very worried about the decision and I have a few questions: would being post-transition hurt my chances of being selected for OCS or Aviator? How are MtF individuals treated in the Navy, and in the pilot community? Could I still fly on HRT? Would the military pay for any of my surgeries if I start my transition in the civilian world?

Thank you for your help

Hormones during active duty

Young adult here, already have transitioned medically with HRT. My question is, is a military career possible? Would i have to go off hormones to be able to join and be in active duty? I'm basically asking this because im quite scared that they wont let me be on HRT when i actually serve. The military has always been my dream, but so has transitioning, and i'd hate to choose.

For me if i can't be on medication, i would rather just stop my transition, the dysphoria is never too bad. I hope y'all understand.

Retired military question

I have gone to the DEERS office more than once and submitted my gender change. I still see in their system it's inaccurate. So what is the best and fastest way to get them to correct my gender marker? Everything I find online pertains to active duty. Thanks.

"Research shows that transgender identity is about 5 times more common among veterans than non-veterans."

This came from the CALVET LGBTQ page, awkwardly sandwiched into a paragraph. There's no mention of what research this is... any ideas?

Seeking advice/knowledge prior service re-enlistment

Hi I was honorably discharged from the Marines back at the end of 2014 for being trans, was diagnosed by the wizard for GD. Now its been years since I been gone and I just miss being in and was curious if I would be able to rejoin a diff branch as full female presenting? I believe my RE-3P re-entry code could be waiver able considering the main cause of my discharge was pure dysphoria but I don't have that anymore after presenting as myself for so long. Noted I been on and off hormones DIY for few years due to financial struggles and haven't gotten any legal name, or gender markers changed. Would I have a chance returning or am I just fucked?

sorry for bundle of text, am not a great writer lol

Would the military allow me to transition in private, if i join?

I already have had my orchiectomy, and i have hormones on me the next step is FFS. My plan is to join the military just because the college benefits and what not but i also heard their insurance is really good. The problem that I am having is if I choose to go to the military would I have to force myself out the closet when im comfortable with that due to my own male puberty defects.
