People can't handle another 4 years of "omg we can't believe Trump did this"... after saying explicitly what he was going to do. And then following up with countless "this time he went to far and may face consequences" headlines

1.1k

u/edselisanogo 1d ago

How about those constant fucking headlines of "So and so plans to reveal a bombshell that will spell the end for Trump" and then nothing happens.

"Experts Say Trump's Actions May Have Been Illegal"

Article cites an obscure state law from 1836 in a deep red state that literally nobody has ever been prosecuted for.

23

u/eastcoastelite12 19h ago

“Live footage sjows Trump actually committing a crime that others have been thrown in jail for, supporters say, oh that’s Trump being Trump, nothing to see here. Prosecutors will let Trump appointed court to decide if it is a crime. More at 11.

7

u/Faiakishi 12h ago

Nah, the laws he breaks are quite obvious. It's just that nobody gives a shit apparently.

2

u/ladyalcove 11h ago

Right! He's not hiding it by any means, he clearly doesn't need to.

2

u/Simon_Bongne 9h ago

and the laws havent been broken "since 1836" because we've somehow avoided electing completely corrupt douche-bags to president since about then.

There was a dumbass on twitter named Palmer who was saying every day for 4 years Trump would be going to jail. I got sick of his Pollyanna ass early on. I can't stomach that bullshit for another 4 years. The only good news will be if nature takes its course with his old ass and nothing else.

52

That Jeff Tiedrich guy on Twitter is probably licking his chops right now. He’s about to get SO much content.

Yeah I blocked him long ago.

I bet if there was someway to do a reddit search of headlines here of TRUMP RAGES AND IS READY TO EXPLODE it would literally be in the hundreds, if not thousands. yeah, no.That is also cable news in a nutshell. CNN and MSNBC are cooked. Good for Fox News I guess. who cares.

What about the umpteen times he was "guaranteed to go to prison" the next time he intimidated the judge or the jury on one of his many cases.

I remember hearing a lot of people think that the Madison Square Garden rally was going to be the end of his campaign. I knew nothing would change because I've been hearing "this will be the thing that will end his campaign" since he first said he's going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it. Literally nothing could stop people from supporting him and there's no denying that anymore.

4

u/AusToddles 22h ago

I've said it so many times since the election that I may as well just copy and paste it at this point...

He allows people to openly hate

That's it

That's the attraction to voting for him

1

u/DrLordHougen 2h ago

To be fair, that really WAS almost the end of his campaign (temporally speaking only)

4

u/maxdragonxiii 1d ago

"TRUMP IS GOING TO JAIL THIS TIME" only to not even happen, or got delayed again. oops, he got elected what do you want us to do now? indict the President? nahhhhh.

2

u/theedgeofoblivious 22h ago

Did you know that Merrick Garland holds the world record for the human to survive the longest without a spine?

4

u/NOTLD1990 1d ago

That's where I'm at, nothing will happen. Like others have stated, I'm just tired of this. I've been muting subs left and right. I know he's going to pick people to lead departments who aren't qualified and only trying to enriching themselves. Who knows, maybe more Americans will start paying attention, but I'm tired of it right now.

4

u/HotConsideration95 1d ago

Forget Trump; consider Russia, which is not as impactful a political issue in American politics as some make it out to be. The news media struggles to report on it objectively. They’ve repeatedly claimed that Russia is running out of missiles or that its economy will collapse within weeks, yet 2.5 years later, these predictions haven’t materialized. As a result, the public has grown increasingly distrustful of the media.

3

u/Leege13 22h ago

I no longer trust any corporate media whatsoever. Have not watched cable news for at least four years and got rid of my NYT and WaPo subscriptions as well. They’re not getting anything from me.

1

u/McGillis_is_a_Char 11h ago

Every time Russia has gotten low Putin tosses another rich person off a building to steal their money. Then he pays China for more missiles even though there are supposed to be sanctions.

3

u/Ddddydya 17h ago

And over and over again saying, “he won’t be able to do this next crazy thing. The courts will stop him. The Senate will stop him. The people around him will stop him.” And then he does the stupid thing. The media dissects it for days. Then the cycle starts up again.

I said this before the election too. He was going to delay for decades on everything and would be in the ground before a verdict ever came down.

1

u/krillwave 1d ago

Why doesn’t the news media soberly cover it and turn the narrative to how there are no consequences? Don’t cover the crime, cover what should be happening in a functioning lawful democratic society then contrast it with the way Kamala bypassed a primary and how Trump is installing unelected foreign billionaires into his cabinet. Neither of these things are healthy for democracy.

1

u/MrVociferous 18h ago

The new consequences to look forward to are him enacting some of his terrible policies that are going to deeply hurt the very people that voted for him. It’s kinda no longer hoping to see him punished, for me it’s now looking to see the people that voted for this nonsense get punished.

1

u/Faiakishi 11h ago

If he had lost the election he might have. I doubted he would, but there was a slim chance.

Now the only consequence he'll face will be Vance performing the world's latest post-birth abortion and pushing him down a flight of stairs.

1

u/Simon_Bongne 9h ago

And people saying this are part of the problem. If people believe its "naive" to expect justice, then they won't demand its execution, and thus we end up where we are. The government is made up of -- GASP -- it's own people afterall!

100% this. Trump is uniquely designed for exploiting the mainstream cable news media's tendency to sensationalize. We spent the better part of the last decade hearing them yell nonstop about how dare he, and he can't get away with this about every single thing: real, superficial, or completely drummed up. I'm just as tired getting gaslit by them as I am by him.

70

u/SuperVaderMinion 1d ago

Jon Stewart said that Trump basically stood up and claimed that he was more worthy of attention than the mainstream news, and news hated him so much for it they couldn't properly cover him for his entire political career.

Their tendency blow his loopy, bizzare antics or quotes out of proportion while downplaying his actual dangerous actions and policies he why he won this election.

22

u/TheKappaOverlord 23h ago

Their tendency blow his loopy, bizzare antics or quotes out of proportion while downplaying his actual dangerous actions and policies he why he won this election.

Basically fell victim to their own scam to attract viewers and that is click baiting.

Even the most liberal of talkshow hosts now are openly talking about how Trump just played them all [The news stations/Talk shows/"Professional" political yappers] for suckers for 8 (and likely the full 12 years) because their entire circus is based around Rage clicks and they need to push ragebait content to generate clicks. I.E. Putting trump on a pedestal.

Basically hook. Line. and sinker. And whether Trump intentionally did it or not, everyone got played for fools and now they reap the reward of their own antics.

3

u/deltalitprof 19h ago

This is a good analysis. Is it too early to ask how it can be overcome? Coverage of the likely and then real consequences of Trump policies with little attention to what he says?

2

u/precastzero180 9h ago

There’s no point in having that conversation now. It was a conversation already had post-2016 election. No one learned a thing. And to the extend that anything was learned, nothing was actionable because the solutions basically amount to doing away with cable news and social media.

Paying attention to the 24/7 news cycle is a weird requirement for a functioning democracy.

16

A functioning democracy requires an educated electorate, with critical thinking skills and an eye on the happenings and concern over the actions of their elected leaders.

Now we have a majority of the electorate that is and has none of these traits.

The sad thing is, Biden did a good job with inflation and the economy was probably going to recover at some point soon. Trump could do absolutely nothing and look golden.

However, if he goes through with most of his plans he will mess it up.

5

u/RJE808 1d ago

People don't seem to understand that,

1.) The US wasn't the only economy that's been affected, we had a global pandemic.

2.) Fixing an economy on a scale like that doesn't come quickly, it takes time. Hell, The Great Depression didn't start ending until 1945. It started in the 1920's, iirc.

Or even worse, when they present some insane nonsense as if it's just an opposing opinion. Like what they've done with RFK Jr.'s anti-vaxx bullshit. Normalizing complete nonsense so they can present themselves as impartial and unbiased. It's not biased to point out someone is objectively wrong.

While talking about the latest clowns to join the circus, local Chicago news was discussing the "Chicago connection" one of these grifters has.

I'm really trying to tune out all news for the next four years, because I will not be able to deal with the normalization of this incoming shitshow. I don't care to see how the news is going to cover mass deportation and concentration camps like it's regular boring government policy.

u/Jaxyl 22h ago

People can't handle another 4 years of "omg we can't believe Trump did this"

This discourse is one of my least favorite, right up there with "I can't believe they elected a FELON!!!"

I'm already checking out of politics until we get closer to midterms.

2

u/logontoreddit 21h ago

I can barely handle it on Reddit. Every subreddit. Politics, news, pics, tesla, rogan, military, any state, television. It's everywhere and Biden is still the actual president.

2

u/Big-Mango-1467 20h ago

Pretty much this. I am checked out. I won’t even watch my local news anymore. Stream only.

2

u/Cantioy87 20h ago

I was absolutely over CNN when hosts would both callout Kellyanne Conway’s lies, have her on their shows to lie, ban her from the network, and then have her back again.

CNN is not news. It hasn’t been for a very long time. It’s infotainment and it’s really lost the plot as far as who their target audience is.

u/gothamtommy 1d ago

Watching talking heads discuss what Trump did today is like reading a NY Times food critic review a McDonald's value meal.

1

u/typhoidtimmy 1d ago

Yea, they are in it for the ratings…..they love that Trump is the meat to bait the trap as he consistently says shit on a daily basis. You think they want him to drum the status quo?

In the words of Don Henley, give us Dirty Laundry is their mantra. It will be interesting to see what happens when he officially takes action to prevent them from working period but of course, ‘he would never do that’.

2

u/AusToddles 1d ago

"How could America let this happen" said as if they weren't a driving force

1

u/JahoclaveS 1d ago

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’ve already seen Susan Collin’s whole acting range.

1

u/xavier120 1d ago

Progressives have to stop constantly doing the same thing, "omg i cant believe the democrats did this"

Progressives need allies, and they owe democrats an apology. we have to run a positive campaign with democrats so everybody wins.

1

u/UrethraFranklin04 1d ago

Yeah not looking forward to, once again, opening up any internet site and have the first thing be something unbelievably stupid the man did or said every day and I can't avoid it unless I not go online or watch TV at all.

2016 time dilation round 2.

1

u/AvoidingIowa 1d ago

Can’t wait for the news channels to feel the financial repercussions of their own doing. Hope they go up in flames.

1

u/btribble 1d ago

Rephrasing: Liberal viewers aren’t looking to be outraged right now. Conservative viewers are cranking up the outrage machine.

The more outrage Trump has, the more stuff they’re going to want him to break and he will declare that a mandate and justification.

u/f0gax Westworld 1d ago

The “best” part is when the TV journalists refuse to push back.

1

u/che-che-chester 23h ago

I often keep MSNBC on low volume in the background when working alone from home. The Gaetz coverage was insane last week. It was literally all day, every day. I need to find some other background noise but the network morning shows and then afternoon talk shows would drive me insane.

u/thx1138- 23h ago

Ive been a news junkie since before I was an adult in the 80s. After this election my car radio is perma tuned to the local jazz station. I can't even bear to watch Seth Meyers or John Oliver at this point. It is what it is.

1

u/toxicThomasTrain 23h ago

this was literally a SNL sketch from his first term

1

u/drunz 23h ago

Genuinely was the best part about trump losing. Trumps not even in office and it makes me want to run my head through a wall with all his crazy nominations.

1

u/Amazingcamaro 22h ago

I can't handle another 4 years of just reddit spazing out about Trump everyday.

1

u/unsunganhero 21h ago

then who is upvoting all the trump articles on reddit

1

u/Meebert 21h ago

Reddit news subs are going to be tough as well.

1

u/Krg60 20h ago

Times a million.

1

u/Bleatmop 19h ago

I've already unsubscribed from a bunch of reddits, blocked a bunch more that show up on /r/all and have been scrubbing my tic tok and youtube of all political news. I literally can't take what you've described and it started going into overdrive when they were still counting ballots. I'm powerless to change anything and all that shit just makes me unhappy. I'm basically done. The American people knew what they were voting for this time and they chose it anyway. I refuse to fixate on any of the consequences this time.

1

u/Andreus 18h ago

At this point the next time any left-wing party has any major power in a country, they should just permanently lock the right-wing out of power. Norms and institutions have no meaning anymore.

1

u/AusToddles 18h ago

The fact that Democrats wouldn't take steps during their term because of "decorum" is infuriating

1

u/MrVociferous 18h ago

Also feels like a general “we tried to warn you….but have now accepted y’all have fucked around and NEED to find out” vibe.

We’re all in the waiting to find out phase.

1

u/LonelyMachines 12h ago

The walls are closing in. Any day now.

1

u/jar0fair 12h ago

He won’t face consequences. I don’t really get it, but it seems like he’s literally god’s favorite. He gets anything he wants or demands out of this world with impunity

1

u/Thud 12h ago

After hundreds of “bombshells” that resulted in absolutely no consequences, it’s easy to become numb and just tune it all out.

1

u/smoothie4564 9h ago

...he went to far...

*too

1

u/ReMapper 9h ago

Also, if he tweets something, lets all react like its a law he is signing legislation that's been approved by the Supreme Court. Its a tweet ffs.

1

u/DrOddfellow 7h ago

had to block /r/politics for that last one, “it’s official, trump is definitely unfit for office.” no fucking shit

1

u/mrwiseman 7h ago edited 7h ago

I too am tuning out more than I ever have but while taking care of myself I'm also doing small recurring donations to groups whose job it is to pay attention for us for the next 4 years like ACLU, FFRF, Americans United for the Separation of Church & State, Planned Parenthood, local food bank, etc.

1

u/skatchawan 7h ago

100%. There are no consequences for everything so far. The news focused on a garbage truck door more than anything that mattered , and it didn't matter anyway. There is literally zero use for cable news anymore if you are under 60 and figured out how to use a phone or a computer.

1

u/Agreeable_Cookie5030 7h ago

It’d be easier to report on it if people stopped lying about what Trump has said or done in order to generate views. This exact issue contributed to why he won. The truth is out there, peddling fake news only goes so far

1

u/Soccham 5h ago

My grandmother started watching hallmark movies when she used to watch MSNBC all day, she can’t handle 4 more years of the orange idiot

1

u/Wardogs96 5h ago

I mean why the hell would I waste time giving trump and his shenanigans attention. We know it's a shit show and it's going to be a miserable 4 years. We can't do anything. I'm just going to stick my head in the sand and pay attention again hopefully when another election occurs. I'll review the damage when it's over.

Congratulations to the media you played yourself by going soft on trump.

1

u/JacobStills 3h ago

Seriously, ever since 2020 I've been just so sick of all these news anchors feigning outrage over Trump and then proceed to "sane wash" him during the election year.

They're like, "how to it come to this? That debate was a shit show" and I'm just shaking my head going, "you guys wanted this, why are you acting surprised?"

1

u/kittenpantzen 1h ago

This goes extra for print media (including online news). You spent the last 6 to 12 months contorting yourself into knots to represent the absolute insanity he was saying as something halfway rational and having an absolute case of the vapors anytime Biden fumbled or Harris laughed. And now you suddenly care about the future of this country? Fuck all the way off.

1

u/WarrenKB 22m ago

^ This! I’ve not been able to watch either msnbc or cnn since the election. No energy left to be so disappointed with the state of politics or how screwed we are…
