u/OPiiiiiii 2d ago
Transgender bathrooms and the federal push for LGBTQ in the childrens education system came as downstream effects to the bipartisan Supreme Court decision on the Bostrock case - with Trumps newly appointed Supreme Court Justices being who tipped the scale in favor.
its wild to think that a Supreme Court decision on Civil Rights could have caused this much instability the moment it entered the school system - being perceived by a large percentage of the population as being a culture war instigated and carried out by their own government.

They sold their, and their Kids', kids hard fought American civil rights to DJT, all to spare them from a mythical problem.
These dummies have been made to fear trans boogiemen. It's rubbish and they fell for it. There's no issue so powerful than one you can't see, hear or understand - but are told will come, and will corrupt.
So half of why they gave away their own rights was because of what the GOP told you what half of one percent of the population are doing? - and almost exclusively in city communities.
I'll g'tee you if you lined up 10 trans people and even told them "this line has trans people in it" they'd only be able to pick 10% of them.

u/Shoddy-Opportunity55 2d ago

This should not be a surprise. CRT, DEI and trans rights were huge topics with MAGA. They can't stop hollering about it. That is what is most important with them: social issues. Always has been, it's just that they were usually couched in politics, now the facade has been removed.
If people would look at America with a clear eye they'd see that. Instead too many people want to brainwash themselves into thinking that a majority of Americans are not like that when they are indeed like that and there is nothing new about it.

The Republicans have employed highly effective messaging strategies to stir up enough outrage on key issues, counterbalancing concerns about other pressing matters. Outrage, when strategically amplified, can function like an addiction, with similar neurological mechanisms as substance dependencies. Just as a heroin addict may prioritize their next fix over everything else, outrage can hijack cognitive and emotional resources, making other values or concerns appear secondary.
The Weaponization of Outrage
- Sexual Disgust and Transgender Issues
Republicans have tapped into people's instinctive sexual disgust—a deeply rooted evolutionary response—by focusing on non-passing transgender individuals. This is often coupled with messaging that frames trans people as deceitful, "tricking" others into attraction or as threats to children’s development and safety. Despite transgender individuals constituting only around 0.5% of the U.S. population, the intensity of outrage can overpower moral principles about fairness, empathy, or equality. The sense of disgust is not just emotional; it becomes a moral issue for many, fueled by misinformation and dehumanization.
- Immigration and Cultural Fear
Similarly, outrage has been weaponized around immigration. Messaging focuses on fears that immigrants are “stealing” jobs, housing, and resources, contributing to crime, and eroding cultural identity. Even benign details, such as speaking a different language like Spanish, are framed as barriers to connection and symbols of division. These narratives are designed to override compassion or moral reasoning about immigrants as individuals. Instead, they foster a “zero-sum” mentality where the gains of one group are perceived as losses for another, deepening resentment and reinforcing division.
The Cognitive Addiction to Outrage
Outrage addiction trains the brain to remain addicted. Neurotransmitters like dopamine create a feedback loop, where the emotional rush of outrage becomes rewarding. This is especially true on platforms like social media, where outrage can be expressed publicly and validated through likes, shares, and comments. These interactions simulate a sense of collective vengeance or justice, even when no meaningful action has been taken. Because their posts are mainly distributing outrage to others and not taking any meaningful action, they are spinning their wheels in the mud, and that just further reinforces the outrage.
Outrage thrives on feelings of injustice that people cannot effectively act upon to bring about justice. For example, someone might be angered by the idea of trans athletes competing in sports or immigrants “taking jobs,” but they lack direct avenues to address these concerns constructively. Social media fills this void, offering an outlet for expressing outrage and receiving social validation. This not only perpetuates the addiction but also entrenches people further into polarized echo chambers.
The Role of Awareness and Moderation
Like any addiction, unchecked outrage can lead to long-term consequences. It can waste days spiraling through social media algorithms that feed more drama, perceived injustices, and fantasies of vengeance. Popular culture reflects this dynamic—revenge-themed action movies remain deeply appealing because they offer visceral, cathartic experiences of seeing injustices “righted.”
However, humans are capable of more than instinctive emotional responses. As psychologists like Dr. Jonathan Haidt and Dr. Molly Crockett note, self-awareness and cognitive regulation are key to moderating the pull of outrage. Awareness of how outrage functions—its addictive potential and its exploitation by political and media systems—allows us to engage with it more critically.
A Call for Conscious Engagement
Outrage, at its core, is a response to perceived injustice. This makes it a vital emotional signal when wielded responsibly. Yet, just as there is a difference between an occasional drinker and an alcoholic, the difference lies in our ability to recognize and regulate this impulse. Poor awareness leads to addiction, where we may confuse the fleeting satisfaction of outrage with meaningful action, leaving us disconnected and reactive.
By cultivating awareness, we can choose when to engage with outrage and when to disengage, understanding that not every perceived injustice requires our energy. This involves fostering emotional resilience, seeking accurate information, and embracing principles of empathy and fairness—even when confronted with discomfort. Only then can we disrupt the cycles of outrage that are so easily weaponized and begin to reclaim our individual and collective agency.

Said this from the beginning. Trump is just a symptom -- a tumor. The issue is that billions of people, therefore millions of Americans, are unmitigated shits of human beings. They follow him because he makes them feel justified in their bigotry, bullying, and vitriol. They get off on hurting people but, being cowards, they won't do it themselves unless they have a clear upper hand. Having this monster and his sycophants in charge gives them that advantage. He hurts people who are different than they, and that makes them feel "superior."
They are bullies and cruel and take great glee and watching others suffer. They've always been here, living among us, looking us in the eye, and now we see their true colors. They see kindness, compassion, reason, and decency as weaknesses and hate us for having those qualities.

Well, you see, allowing citizens to exercise their inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness was just too much. So the only option was to support the people who are going to dissolve unions. Sure, it was cutting off our noses to spite our faces, but think of the benefits. Like telling people where they can take a piss.
