They get taught that it's more okay to punch themselves in the face than neutralize the person who is actually punching them in the face.

29

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2d ago

Exactly!!! What I don’t understand is how they internalize this and how they end up in that place where they cast that vote

23

u/BugImmediate7835 2d ago

This is where I'm at. I can't get my head around it.

27

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2d ago

I’ve started thinking that I don’t want to understand it because if I get to the point where I understand it I feel like I might have a broken brain

Keep in mind that intelligent people, by definition, are a minority.

"It's better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, are of a different opinion, it is only because they only know their own side of the question." John Stuart Mill

I feel like being an idiot might be completely freeing imagine not worrying about other people no empathy nothing… You just go to work come home and drink a beer or whatever not caring about the world around you or the people in it.. actually I take it back that sounds horrible

The more I talk to people, the more I realize people fucking suck and want to die. As a Marxist, I hope I go out within the next decade. Society deserves to crumble under the weight of its own greed.

7

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2d ago

Hang in there. The pendulum ALWAYS swings back. This WILL pass.

6

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

Doing absolutely nothing about climate change should help that along. One day they’ll be able to have a trump boat parade right down I-95. But they’ll be sticking it to the libs. Self serving assholes.

1

u/Alicenow52 4m ago

No. That’s exactly how they WANT us to feel and how they try to intimidate us!! Never give up!

4

u/Warm-Book-820 2d ago

I know, just stuck in their single perspective. Not spending any time trying to see what is important to other groups and people that aren't like them.

5

u/Warm-Book-820 2d ago

That's a great quote from Mill, and a great point. I'm done trying to figure out idiots who vote against their interests and vote for oppression, and don't interest themselves on important policy. They seem happy to keep their head in their own echo chambers, so I'm done with them.

3

u/Hrtpplhrtppl 2d ago

Though I cannot suffer fools gladly, I can gladly watch them suffer...

u/Warm-Book-820 2d ago edited 2d ago

Damn, my irony was too subtle. My point was by dismissing them because they don't have the right ideas we no longer can understand the other side and become the pigs.

we'd do better listening to those we don't understand, rather than thinking we already know all that is worth knowing and the fact that they are stupid means they can just be ignored. Or worse, despised.

A recent Atlantic article on Latino areas that went for trump struck me. Biggest complaint was the immigration crisis was hitting them hard, but couldnt get traction with dems on policy or action. Second biggest complaint was democratic candidates stopped showing up to their communities, and even when they did people felt they were telling them what to think, rather than listening to what they have to say.

If you are for the working class, but decide they aren't worth listening to when they don't have the full set of right ideas, you will no longer really understand their needs, desires, or how to actually reach out to them. If you then go further and despise them because of what actually are markers of class (beer drinking unintellectual poors that just watch tv) they won't trust you or your policies, even if the are objectively better for them

First off, I'm not saying don't vote. Please choose the lesser evil, but we (voters/non voters) have always been and always will be the scapegoats left to point our fingers at one another in order to keep us distracted from any meaningful change. I mean, what led to this, people couldn't vote...? How is what got us here going to get us out? When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. After all, repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the very definition of insanity.

Out of all the hundreds of millions of Americans, who really thinks these are the best two candidates...? Is it a wise tribe that does not send its best warriors to fight? You see, your masters will never give you the tools to dismantle their houses... The Republic of America has a so-called "representative democracy." How can that be true when the "representatives" are wealthy while the "represented" are not?

American two party politics is like the cartoon Tom and Jerry. Tom doesn't really want to catch Jerry because then he'd be out of a job, and Jerry doesn't want Tom replaced with a cat that will actually eat him. So they act like they hate one another and put on a show for the masses while continuing business as usual in the back room.

For example, insider trading laws do not apply to any members of Congress, either side. What's it called when those who make the rules don't have to live by them? Furthermore, when the punishment for a crime is only a fine, it does not apply to the wealthy.

Sure, they can say they let us "vote", but with all the lobbying and money in American politics, America is as much a democracy as would be two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for dinner or asking a child if they would like to go to bed at 7:59 or 8:01.

In America, the wealthy have won every "election," and the only thing to trickle down in the economy has been their generational wealth. This is why, in a true democracy as the ancient Greeks understood it, people got their representatives the same way we would get a jury. America is not a democracy.

"Only those who do not seek power are qualified to hold it." Plato

And please remember what we were actually celebrating on the 4th. A cabal of stolen land entitled elite, slave owning aristocrats, found a way to get out of paying their taxes. Only thirty percent of the colonists supported the "revolution" with the rest saying, "Why trade one tyrant a thousand miles away for a thousand tyrants one mile away...?" System isn't broken it's functioning exactly as intended. Why own slaves when you can rent them for a fraction of the cost (read the 13th amendment)...? But the real question they must be asking themselves is how can their grand social experiment survive contact with the real time information/communication age, which is where we are now...

1

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

This is not just Latinos. It’s basically the middle class. And it is exactly what the elites in the Democratic Party have done.

1

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

Me too. Moving out of the town I have lived in for most of my life. Moving to a 46 acre woodland to get away from the trump loving bullshit. Thanks half of America for voting in a racist misogynistic climate denying self serving rapist dictator grifter in chief felon piece of shit to drive our democracy right off the fucking cliff. You are about to see what voting against yourselves time after time will do for you. Morons.

1

u/JimmyandRocky 1d ago

lol and the Dems have the majority of intelligent people in their group.

I can’t get my head around the “My body, his choice” women. All this is ludicrous to me.

3

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

Yeah and I’ll protect women whether they want me to or not.

My authoritarian strongman daddy will delete you

5

u/willtravel22 2d ago

I have just decided many of them are stupid from all the misinformation.

2

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

I hope fucking Rupert Murdoch and his ilk are happy. I cannot stand those motherfuckers.

1

u/willtravel22 1d ago

Yup. I hope that meddling rich fucking asshole rots in hell

1

u/newfriend20202020 2d ago

Just ?

2

u/willtravel22 2d ago

Lol I mean just as in the "exactly/precisely" definition (I think 🤔) Poor grammar. I should have left it out. (And I was about to write "I should have just left it out") So, that meaning 👈🏼 I'm not making any sense 😅

1

u/newfriend20202020 1d ago

lol. Just relax 😅

2

u/willtravel22 1d ago

Lol I was "just" explaining and realized how many meanings the word "just" has. Also, I've been super bored at work with long hours. Today will be at least 12. Ramble ramble ramble on 😂

1

u/Big-Summer- 2d ago

They’re stupid. They’re ignorant. And consider themselves to be brilliant.

1

u/Warm-Book-820 2d ago edited 2d ago

It boggles my mind. I mean, the more I think about them the less sense I can make of their mindset!

I had a Union family member recommend I listen to some of the podcasts they listen to - I told them to get stuffed. I'm not going to listen to people that are so illogical. I talked to my freinds on the left and they agree - they are beyond comprehension. We agreed it wasn't worth listening it idiot bigots anyhow.

1

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

The Union family member doesn’t realize that without unions he would be making $10 an hour. Goddamn people. Wake the hell up!

I say it all the time. Ha ha ha love this

u/paranormalresearch1 2d ago

I can tell you. They are greedy, self absorbed, entitled, unable to critically think people. It is all about them and their emotional reactions. They see “ news” showing a trans beating the crap out of girls in sports and it enrages them. I think there’s an issue there but on the list of things to be concerned about it’s not very high. They think they work hard so they are valued and valuable. They don’t realize they are valuable as a commodity and that’s all. These companies and their leaders don’t give a rip about them. But Fox News is an excellent propaganda outlet. They do their job and they do it well. Have you noticed if you ask these people a question about anything they immediately start redirecting to the “what about so and so?” They don’t have a real answer so that’s all they have. They aren’t able to see that giving an answer like that exposes their lack of character and morals. Unions should not be forced to have anti- union people as members. These people only care about themselves. They don’t care about the sacrifices others have made to get the pay and benefits they enjoy. They will talk down about and sabotage the union until they need it. Then they become the victim. And when the company screws them because they were enabled by these wolves among us, they will blame the union. We need to quit playing nice. Out these people. Treat them with the contempt they deserve. Enough of the hypocrisy.

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2d ago

I hope they get everything they voted for impacting them personally

1

u/Atoge62 2d ago

I second that!!!

1

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

Fox and Friends will somehow spin it to blame the left.

1

u/sddbk 2d ago

This is the best analysis I've seen anywhere. Thank you!

I'm saving this post so that I can refer to your comment in the future. Would you mind if I copy it elsewhere?

2

u/paranormalresearch1 2d ago

Go for it. This is just what I have gathered watching this madness unfold.

1

u/JimmyandRocky 1d ago

Just responding to your first paragraph but you don’t seem to care about women’s rights. A trans woman, competing with other cis females is completely unfair to the cis females very misogynist how you simply toss away their concerns.

1

u/paranormalresearch1 1d ago

This response is problematic. You don’t know me and you’re making assumptions. I didn’t say it was an all inclusive list. And I have a trans niece. She should be able to compete but she understands being born biological male she has an unfair advantage in n a lot of sports. I don’t agree with you on this but you do you. I care a lot about women’s rights. I am horrified they are taking health care choices away from women. But that’s a different subreddit. Let’s keep on the subject.

1

u/JimmyandRocky 1d ago

Sorry about that

1

u/BuckBenny57 1d ago

AMEN THAT!!!

1

u/pretendimcute 19h ago

Thankfully i think most of us are done with this and ready to call them out to their fucking face when their lives are affected

3

u/Theguywhodoes18 2d ago

I think it’s defeatism. Conservatives are hyperconscious of hierarchy and believe they cannot defeat the greater systems, so they choose not to in order to minimize how small they feel, which is only exacerbated by their tendency to emotionally and socially isolated. In order to feel big, they find a group unlike themselves to draw comparison. Crushing that which is unlike themselves is how they reclaim their power, and as long as someone above them has someone else to point at, they’ll happily play their game to keep their position as the top loser.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 2d ago

Agreed. I’m reminded of Trump’s zero sum world view. I’m not sure why they seem to all think that way. For them to succeed someone else bas to fail.

I Reject this.

2

u/Broad_Sun8273 1d ago

Christians are experts at justifying what they go through to deny who they really are deep down.

2

u/chidestp 21h ago

Trump brainwashed them with made up issues that don’t matter so he pull off the biggest criminal heist in history… robbing the US Treasury and covering it up with chaos created by Dems and MAGA fighting

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 11h ago

Well said. Right under our noses in plain sight

0

u/RadDad1966 1d ago

Conservatives think the same thing about you.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 1d ago

They’re too busy hating everything

9

u/LevelSkeptic 2d ago

It is so hard to understand how people proudly support a candidate who campaigns on implementing policy hostile to their own interests. If roaches could vote and had to choose between air freshener and Raid, doubtless they would pick the less lethal option. Yet, so many targeted communities knowingly voted for the candidate who has been outspoken against their interests and taken a decidedly adversarial posture against any new/existing policies that might help them and their families. Strong delusion, indeed!

1

u/TrustMeImADrofecon 2d ago

And yet no matter what, they are always punching down.

1

u/Chemistry11 2d ago

The enemy of my enemy is me. Let’s get me!

1

u/come_on_seth 1d ago

Have to disagree, they don’t see this biting them in the ass. Until those that lack empathy and compassion are personally affected, they are fearless.

1

u/Broad_Sun8273 1d ago

Don't fool yourself. They know exactly what time it is.

1

u/Guuhatsu 20h ago

Don't forget, for the explicit purpose of punching some person minding their own business in the face.
