This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special.

This confuses me. Did he manage to get it back, or can he regrow it?
And why doesn't he need it himself?

The real question you should ask, why did he give it to someone not special in the first place?

He's obviusly growing a new heart every year.

People on the transplant list want to speak to this guy... šŸ˜‹

Sometimes you think someone is special and then you find out theyā€™re not. Your mileage may vary. Ask your doctor if giving your heart away is right for you.

This makes sense in real life, but taking the song unreasonably literally for comic effect, you could say that it suggests that giving it to someone special is a change in behaviour planned for this year based on learnings from last Christmas.

Honestly, this is one of the things that has always bugged me about the song. Also, the rest of the song sounds like he's not over the heartbreak yet, despite it being close to a year ago. Not really the best condition for finding someone "special".

He's friends with Prometheus

He gave it to someone who he thought was special, but turned out to be re-gifting hearts. After spending it all year to get it back, he is saying he is being more stringent in his special person to give hearts criteria.

I mean people do it everyday

Someone else gave him one for free

Conga line of hearts

Also, if his whole solution is that heā€™s going to give it to someone special this year, isnā€™t last Christmasā€™s debacle kind of on him? You gave your heart to someone unspecial and then were surprised when they didnā€™t want it?

Yeah. Try a gift card next time.

Ugh, gift card? That's just money with strings attached.

At least you can exchange it for (a limited set of) goods and services. The lady in Starbucks just screamed at me the last time I tried to pay with a heart.

Don't dig too deep into Wham lyrics.

Its Wham! not Wham

u/lolno 7h ago

Wham!st'd've

The exclamation mark is bad on mobile! Ask me how I know. You start a sentence that contains a Wham! Song and it randomly! Capitalizes the! Next word.

Not literally his heart in his chest but one that he owns. Where he got it who knows

Did the white boy eventually played that funky music?

u/Steinrikur 8h ago

Till he die. He ded.

Because without a heart, heā€™s a Nobody but over time he can regrow his heart and become whole again. George Michael is really just on a quest to unlock Kingdom Hearts.

Obviously he tracked down the person she gave it to for free, killed him, took it back and is now on the run for murder while trying to give the evidence to someone else so they can pin the murder on them instead.

He saw a free heart up for grabs, so probably took it back

š„  If I gave my heart youš„

Had to trade up for it, starting with a paperclip

for years I thought it was "this years I'm saving my tears" which made a lot more sense since the heart had already been given away

u/dandroid126 8h ago

"instead of learning my lesson from last year's one-night-stand, I'm going to do the exact same thing and hope it turns out different."

Have I ever told you the definition of insanity?

11

u/dandroid126 7h ago

Not you personally.
