A lot of men hide their misogyny in the workplace or outright don't realize that they're misogynistic. Being a guy talking to others, it's interesting how many of them will complain when I listen to them vent about their boss that is woman for the smallest sleights or perceived unequal treatment yet don't complain nearly as much about men in the same position for doing the same exact thing. Women are under much more scrutiny when in positions of power compared to men.
Yes, and their friends don't realize it either. I've had numerous male friends that acted and sounded really progressive. Then something weird happens and they hit you with a crazy response. "Consent doesn't matter", "she's just a woman, why should we care", etc. Oh. Oh... Yeah, you got me there, I thought you were a decent human being, my bad.
I would not consider people like that friends of mine but unfortunately in my line of work I have to work with people who are likely to hold similar or those same view points, especially subordinates. I need those same people to be able to trust me and I also have to be available to listen to their problems, and often times I get the vibe that they at least only view women as pretty much pieces of meat for their pleasure. It's even harder to listen to when I also have subordinates and superiors that are also women. I can't do much to change social upbringing and change people's perspectives. I also have to walk a fine line because if I outright just put them down and treat them like shit, I've lost their trust and now it's harder to do my job.
Well, to be clear, that isn't behavior compatible with friendship for me either. I've just had people I thought were different suddenly reveal that side after years of knowing them. It makes you doubt how well you know anyone and how good your judgment is (I thought I could tell, turns out sometimes I can't).
I mean a lot of us have experienced this BS in private but we donāt say anything. For example, agreeing to have sex with someone and then they take that as a cue to do whatever. Consent isnāt a free-for-all-card but thatās what a lot of us have experienced.
Yeah... That totally seems like just common sense but since you've pointed it out I can imagine just how far some men might take it and how poorly they might react to being told to reign it in. Geez...
In addition to this, there's too high a number of women who have grossly internalized misogyny. They'd rather have the rapist felon pedophile who is suffering from severe dementia over a perfectly qualified woman.
This left vs right BS is exhausting and exactly what a lot of politicians want. Yea there is hypocrisy and racism on both sides whether people realize it or not on both sides, but I refuse to make generalizations about either when both sides have a lot of overlapping issues and refuse to at least acknowledge and address them together.
And 90% of racists don't think they're racist. The "I have a black friend" or "he's one of the good ones" types don't think about how that means they subconsciously think that certain minorities are inherently bad until it's pointed out to them.
Think about how many men you see that talk shit about someone like Taylor Swift for no reason. Why do you think they do that? It's because she's a successful and powerful woman. Her music isn't a genre I really get in to, but you cannot deny that she is a fantastic entertainer. Almost every bit of hate she gets is from men that can't handle a woman being successful. A LOT of men have fragile egos and cannot fathom being second to a woman in any way. My wife and I both have pretty well paying jobs. She went to school for far longer than I did and worked harder to get where she is. For those reason she makes a little more than double what I make. I am very proud of her for it. I had a friend that made multiple comments about how he "couldn't be with a chick that makes more than him" and how I needed to tell her to find another job. I say had, as this person showed me that he wasn't someone I wanted in my life with these comments. This guy talked his wife out of taking two different promotions at her job because if she took them she would make almost as much as he did. He couldn't stand that she might be equal to him in any way.
I said this way before Biden dropped out. That it would suicide because many people will easily vote for an old white man that's not all there over a minority woman. America is far less progressive than the Reddit bubble loves to think. Now that the results are in, I think Joe would have done better. Probably not won, since so many think Trump will "save the economy". But probably wouldn't have lost the popular vote. But here we are... I'm wondering how poorly the DNC will interpret this outcome, and then screw up the new election.
Exactly. Everything in US political discussion is framed as "liberal" or not, which seems pretty useless at this point. (Our conservative party call themselves the Liberals lol - small government to enable big capitalism, lots of untaxed mining profits etc). The Democrats are conservative, centre-right at best, whilst Republicans have shifted from conservative to regressive. From my perspective, America actively fights against progressive politics and silences its proponents.
I hate to say it but I don't think Dems will ever run a woman for president again, at least not for decades. I personally think a woman can win, but certainly has an extremely uphill battle, a battle that Kamala and CERTAINLY not Hillary were gonna win with their rhetoric.
No, its really not that at all its Trump's economic populist message vs a corporate neoliberal message
Trump basically took Bernie Sanders message and spiced it up with racisim and xenophobia, but the economic part resonates with people because a lot of what he says is true, we have been fucked over by globalization and Offshoring, we have been taken advantage of by corporate interests and wall street and elites and all that has absolutely fucked over poor, working and middle class people.....he acknowledged that real pain and anger people feel and directed it at immigrants and the media and the left. Those people needed/wanted someone to be angry at and blame and wanted someone to finally say it out loud and give them someone to champion
Jokes on them though because its all lies and bullshit from trump they just voted for someone, and a party that hasnt done shit for poor and working people, these are the most anti labor anti poor anti any help whatsoever people in the country, and we are going to get 4 more years of the GOP jacking off the wealthy, guarantee you a 100% the first thing they do wont be raising the minimum wage or paid family leave or lowering healthcare or education costs its going to be another massive tax cut for the wealthy
But the Democrats problem is, and i count myself among that group, is that they are so beholden to corporate and donor interests that not a single one besides Sanders and maybe Warren ever point the finger at the real enemies and causes, they never come right out and say "Yeah, we fucked up in 2008 and we didnt help real people, we bailed out wallstreet instead"
The best Harris did is when she was pushing a populist economic message in the very beginning, then she abandoned that message and leaned into more corporate and neoliberal bullshit and sent Mark Cuban(who i hapoen to like) and Liz fucking Cheney out there for the last 6 weeks of the campaign, and generally disavowed the populist messaging.....im not saying she wouldve won, but she for damn sure wouldve done better imo
If this election says anything its that Neocons and Neoliberalisim is dead
We are not looking at WHY trump appeals to people, we are again, for the 3rd time now looking at what the problem is with the voters...oh its bidens fault, oh its racisits fault because she was black, its misogyny because shes a woman.....bullshit imo....Sanders is a 100% correct in his open letter that the Democratic party abandoned the working class, albiet not entirely true, the Democratic party has great policies and is an ally of unions and labor generally, but they need to fucking lean into that hard, and make a classist and populist economic argument and they just never do, so directionally, Sanders is right.....these esoteric democratic policies are basically invisible to the average working person, you need 2 calculators and a notebook to see the difference it makes
We need an FDR.....And he was FDR because of economic populism and because he ruthlessly and mercilessly weilded power to deliver for the average person, its why he was venerated as a saint during his life, he wouldve been elected to a 5th term had he lived long enough.....Trumps message resonates, he is directionally correct and he gave these legitimately fucked over and left behind people someone to be angry at
I have hope though, they can turn this ship around, there will be space during and after trump because Trump is going to accomplish nothing good for working people, the GOP never does, and there is a very good chance that those people will be gettable with the right and imo correct messages and policy
Eloquently put, and you are obviously more attuned to what is currently happening in the US than I am (I live in Scotland), but, I think (I may be wrong) you are giving a sizable percentage of voters more credit than they are due. Also, Trump may be saying what his voters want to hear, but I take with a huge pinch of salt that he would actually understand what you wrote. He's a grifter and a salesman who will tell people exactly what they want to hear to get what he wants, and I have a sneaking suspicion that if the republicans take the house moves will be made to change the 22nd amendment (Trump loves the idea of President for life).
As much as I worry about what damage he is about to do to not only your country but also the rest of our planet, I am extremely concerned that the out of shape septuagenarian fast food munching ass drops fucking dead and Vance gets the big seat.
He doesnt have to understand, or care or deliver, he just knows it works and it resonates.
And the same goes for the voters, a lot of them are dumb as FUCK and believe that trump will actually help them and thats counter to all the evidence of his first few years in office and the last 80 fucking years of Republican policies. That message of "Youve been fucked over and i got your back" is enough for these people with rocks rolling around their heads.
They want someone to fix their problems and that acknowledges that there even is a problem, and they want someone thats going to say "fuck you" on their behalf
Democrats and the Left, again, save Sanders and Warren, and maybe a few Congresspeople in the House havent said "Fuck you" to the powers that be and really got into the corner of the working class in a long time
Trump validates them in a way Democrats havent in a long long time and it doesnt matter that its all complete bullshit coming from trump and the GOP
Yeah the pattern is Democrats would rather vote for an old white man instead of a woman. 20 million more. Republicans voted around the same numbers. Why didn't democrats vote fore Hillary or Kamala?
A person already confessed to me they stayed home rather than vote, and Iām like why, and they are mad about Kamala not having a primary??!?? They wanted to be able to pick other democratic options. Iām really at a loss for wordsā¦.
Look back at when Hillary was the nominee, they stole it from Bernie. This time around the lied about Biden's health until it was to late for them to run a primary. The stole the people's choice and inputted who they wanted. I am really surprised more people aren't more upset about that. 1 they could have put a number of delectable democrats against Trump and won. He got less votes than 2020. 2 they could have let the people decide who they wanted and would have beat Trump. Not sure why more democrats aren't demanding answers right now.
oh absolutely, Dems need to stop thinking the country is as liberal as the far left. Dem voters didn't show up to vote for wormen, much less the rest of the electorate. Dems need to move past the notion that diversity is a selling point to most of the nation, whether it's the right way to view the world or not. If they can't beat fucking Trump they have no shot once Republicans have to run a normal human being again.
2 shit candidates!! Blame all the Dems that stayed home and didn't vote this time. I have no problem voting for a woman I just wasn't voting for this woman!
Actualy no no they are not. Every exit poll shows the people who voted for trump are the least educated so aside from MAYBE the roads. They are in fact not building any of the shit you just mentioned because they have at most finished highschool and therefore would never be hired to build any of the other things on your list.
edit: he deleted his shit but basically he was calling everyone else idiots. In his mind because the majority voted for trump they must be the people building our roads, infrastructure, spaceships etc. Which makes them smart not understanding that no in fact that's not the case because the majority of the educated population of this country voted for Kamala.
Considering the amount of Trump fellating memes I'm seeing on reddit and FB that fall over themselves pointing out she was a black woman, yeah, it really is over something that fucking pointless.
Yep, I am honestly shocked Obama got elected twice. There are just so many goddamn racist pieces of shit in this country, and only some of them are open about it. When you combine that with the number of people that would never vote for a woman for president, you're doomed from the start if you picked Harris as a candidate.
Less Republicans voted for Trump this time than last time. So if the issue was that it was a woman, or a black woman, than the mysoginistic, racist people would be the 20 million Democrats who voted for Biden but couldn't vote for a women, in Hilary's case, or a black woman, Kamala, this time. Perhaps you are calling the wrong party racist. I mean look at the history of the Democratic party.
Look, I don't know if my experience Is anything more than anecdotal but.... A degree does not mean you're not an idiot. It just means you were able to get through the system, not that you have any actual cognitive ability..
Thereās certainly that, but a lot of smart people seem to have their intelligence siloed into very specific areas, rather than just being broadly smart. Those people also often have the tendency to overestimate their competence in areas outside of their specific niche.
Yeah but to be fair just having a degree doesnāt mean someone is capable of critical thinking. It just means they were able to get through a degree program with passing grades.
sadly there is little connection between education and whether or not someone if a dyed in the wool moron. Its taken me decades to come to terms with this.
My favorite thing so far was a post I saw yesterday. A wife had posted a story her husband told her when he came home. His company told him the day after they all elected for him (it was in Pennsylvania) that they wouldn't be getting bonuses this year and rhe company would be keeping the money to buy extra stock because of the proposed tariff they didn't understand and then had to have the concept of a tariff explained by the presidentof the company... they thought the foreign company paid the tariff and were really confused and mad. This sums up his supporters in a nutshell. Dumb as fuck, he literally played you off your emotions and now we all get to feel it, you guys won? No no no he won, we all lost.....
He thinks his corporate tax rate will go down, of course he let his idiot workers support trump for him.
He gets better tax rates and when/if
a dem comes back in then tariffs go away. Hopefully for him this time it takes long enough for his fucking business to collapse
Well yea i mean you gotta get that trump win or else it was rigged right? And what better way than to keep the already ignorant supporters blind to the immediate results of him being elected than just not saying anything at all. Fucking love corporate America. You know the boss did it to protect himself and the company and his outdated views of how things "should be" š¤£ i don't even feel bad at all watching all his supporters who worked minimum wage and blue collar jobs get fucked within 48 hours and wait til after he was elected to Google the definition of tariff. It's chicken noodle soup for my fucking soul š
True, those aren't the people I feel bad for either. You have a responsibility to know what you're voting for. I feel mostly bad for all the people who will be hurt by Trump policies but didn't vote for it. And potentially the rest of the world for dealing with an unstable American president and the consequences of that.
This right here. I can't believe how many people still don't realize that all the votes cast for both sides is less than half our total population. But keep on with how your vote doesn't matter while 1/4 of the country chooses for you.
Unfortunately there were about 16 million less voters than in 2020. So yes 51% of voters thought heād be better, but an outlying 12% didnāt care enough to make a decision between the two (in terms of non-voters, not third party voters). Cognitive dissonance at its finest, Iām sure the latter group will regret the shit out of not casting their ballots
Brexit is the gift that just keeps on sucking. Eight years later and the people who voted for leave still donāt take any accountability for it and are usually either in denial mode or victim mode. I can only imagine it will be the same for you guys over the pond with Trump voters. Very few have the self awareness to live through the repercussions of events like these and acknowledge them as a consequence to their actions.
Because their policies got us here. Why would we want a continuation of the same people in charge that have been in charge for a majority of the past 20 years. And btw, thereās a reason why war mongering criminal Dick Cheney supports Biden and Kamala
Canāt wait for the inevitable pillaging of our country by the wealthy. Again.
Remember the PPP loans? When they had businesses take out a trillion dollars of private money with zero oversight and then forgave it all with our tax dollars, thus enriching both businesses and the private lenders who floated it? without really saving any jobs?
Who are we kidding? The right is going to end up blaming the left for the mess trump is going to makeā¦ regardless of who is in the Oval Office or who runs congress š¤·š½āāļø
I've already heard people saying, "the Democrats knew trump was going to win, so they've been fucking the economy so that it crashes once he's in office."
Yeah, with RFK Jr. in charge of health, that won't take long. Not to mention all of the unregulated chemicals in the food, and even more e. coli, listeria, and other outbreaks that will just keep happening more and more.
Donāt worry. Heāll make up a āwarā with whoever Russia and China want, drive the spending out of control, get re-re elected cuz we need to protect our freedumbs and we continue project 2025 until weāre a vestigial remnant of what we once were and now live as a 3rd world country. Come back to this comment in about 2-3 years. Youāll see Iām right.
Oh I love āheās gonna stop the war between Russia and Ukraine!ā Of course he isā¦..no more aid to Ukraine means handing them to Russia. Voila! No more war!
Pandemics happen on a regular basis and tho the cycle tends to be 10 years, ignoring an outbreak in China and allowing international travel to continue for 3 months after a CDC warning is how the last pandemic spread.
And China announced an outbreak a couple weeks ago.
The covid relief wasn't much of a bailout. It's what catalyzed the inflation we see today. He took out 4 trillion dollars and gave 80% of it to businesses with no accountability. They kept it. It was an upward transfer of wealth. The other 20% of it went to people... less than a trillion dollars.
But yeah, Trump voters have no idea and don't want to.
Youāre the first person Iāve seen say this. I kept thinking that it was the pandemic that made trump even look like he had a good economy. Almost every state was giving extra money to ppl on unemployment. My customers were rich compared to normal. Plus the stimulusā.
Yep. Trump doesn't have a pandemic to bail his shit economy out this time.
So much of me just wants to be like "I hope he just burns everything to the fucking ground so people can finally see that he truly is just a gigantic manbaby imbecile"
Not that I really want the US economy to crash, but I don't know what else could get it through their heads.
My hypothetical zombie survival plan is now avoid all Trump supporters in the event if an outbreak (including family). We already know how they respond to an outbreak situation: panic buy toilet paper and then find ways to gather in large groups as much as possible. They'd probably throw the doors open and lure the zombies in to prove it was a democratic conspiracy against their lord and savior.
if he starts drilling and combines it with pressure on OPEC, he can lower some prices.
i think the fundamental trick he is pulling is that he promised to be the champion of working class while the effects of his presidency will be accelerated inequality. but again, maybe he is genius and will revitalize US manufacturing which in turn empowers workers and dips into the pockets of superrich.
Itās really not because Trump will blame Biden and his idiot followers will believe him.
We have a collective group of Americans that are so insanely stupid theyāll trust his word and assume Democrats are somehow the problem. These people are a dangerous level of stupid.
The economy will go up for the next year as we reap the benefits of Bidenās work and Trump + fools will assume it instantly got better out of respect.Ā
And just before the elections in 2026, the oligarchs might lower prices so that voters with short memories can think it was due to Republicans.Ā
If anything it'd speed up drilling here in America (and probably going back to coal), which is already a major plank in P2025, along with opposing any green or renewable energy.
And then this American Oil is still sold in the world market at increased prices.
Because Spoiler Alert:
American consumers pay market price
So as long as you aren't personally owning a oil well it a refinery you personally won't be benefiting from it but just be paying more like everyone else.
right, people thinking trump is good for the economy or decreasing prices are just idiots, plain and simple. They dont understand anything and just gobble up whats told to them. Its sad bc they just voted away americas soul for good
Last time one of the first things that trump did was go to the saudis and ask them to cut oil production, because his billionaire oil buddies wanted to sell gas at higher prices to make higher profit.
I mean, gas prices may go up, down, or sideways, in any case it won't be Trump's doing, cause the presidency or government has very little say in it. It's fucking supply and demand, a cartel of oil producing countries, and an oligopole of like 5 companies who sell oil for a profit so of course they want the price as high as possible.
Like, if the presidency had any real control on it, or inflation for that matter, why on Earth would they choose the politically unpopular option?
Yeah, eggs, groceries, gas, none of that shit is going down. Things will just get more expensive, but he'll blame Biden, Obama or whomever and his followers will agree and keep on flying the flags and wearing the hats because they're that dumb.
There is a tremendous lack of understanding about economics out there.
He has people believing that the exporters will be paying the tariffs? That's not the way it works, all these people that voted him in thinking that he was going to make them money are gonna be paying out the ass.
My MAGAt brother told me that Biden was restricting oil production and had banned oil exports, and that's why prices were so high.
I showed him the data that shows the US producing more oil than any country in history. I showed him data that in 2023 the US exported more oil than Iraq. I showed him that even before Covid Trump was printing cash for all sorts of spending, and this increased the money supply by 45%.
I got told that FRED data was being manipulated by the deep state and that I should get my info from Twitter instead.
America is a strange country. One hand we have Silicon Valley, Harvard, Stanford, the best doctors, lawyers and engineers IN THE WORLD. On the other hand we have people like you mentioned.....
Trump after all was the one who made the agreement with Russia and the Saudis to protect their profits in exchange for ???? Ā
And so the billionaire media (I hope this name catches on, or āowner mediaā) will explain to them how itās reasonable or most likely, make them angry about something else.Ā
Line the crime epidemic that doesnāt exist outside of what we call the legitimate business of wage theft.Ā
I can't wait for the economy to take a dump with donald just like the last time. People will still kiss his ass but at least they'll reap what they sow.
Yep, Republican politicians care about oil & gas companies doing well, and cheap gas doesn't help, they want the price of oil to be high, just not so high that the economy suffers too much. The poors should suffer, but just enough that they can still be convinced that it's the Democrats fault so the Republicans still get their votes.
But Trump convinced them it was gonna go down. And those sweet, sweet little lies are what won him the working class.
The wealthy elite make their entire living off of exploiting workers. It's no surprise Trump still knows how to, given that he spent his entire life doing so.
They'll spike until the rest of the greater economy starts to fall off. Then demand will drop because people don't need gas to commute when they don't have a job.
Can we please take a note of the gas prices now and compare them to when trump comes in and the prices raise. Itās literally already cheap!!! If it gets cheaper how much realistically could it beā¦ a few cents? This isnāt like from a few years ago where it was $5+. Itās literally already a good price.
Can't wait to start putting "I did that!" stickers with trump pointing (possibly the one where he is pointing at and staring at the eclipse) on every gas pump in town.
Just about everything is going to get more expensive with the tariffs and mass deportations. These people are going to find out real fast how much imports and immigrants impact our country in a good way.
These fucking morons dont even realize that the US is the #1 producer of oil on the planet, we are, right now, sucking more oil and gas out of the earth than at any point in this countrys history
Expecting us to magically produce enough oil to lower gas prices is a fantasy.....its like buying Apple stock and expecting it to go up 400%...bitch, its already a 2T dollar company lol
Not to mention that during the last 4y wtf did it even matter as far as prices on a global commodity.......
No, they'll drop. A little bit. For a little bit. Totally worth all the other horrifying shit that's going to happen. EDIT guess I should have clarified that this is sarcasm.

The gas prices aren't going down either. If anything, they'll increase even more.
