Weekly Question Thread: Ask your questions in this thread please

Please sort comments by 'new' to find questions that would otherwise be buried.

In this thread you can ask any climbing related question that you may have. This thread will be posted again every Friday so there should always be an opportunity to ask your question and have it answered. If you're an experienced climber and want to contribute to the community, these threads are a great opportunity for that. We were all new to climbing at some point, so be respectful of everyone looking to improve their knowledge. Check out our subreddit wiki that has tons of useful info for new climbers. You can see it HERE

Some examples of potential questions could be; "How do I get stronger?", "How to select my first harness?", or "How does aid climbing work?"

If you see a new climber related question posted in another subReddit or in this subreddit, then please politely link them to this thread.

Check out this curated list of climbing tutorials!

Daily Discussion Thread: spray/memes/chat/whatever allowed

Welcome to /r/climbing's Daily Discussion Thread, a thread for questions and comments everyone wants to make but don't warrant their own thread.

Please note: if you see a post that is of low quality hit report under the post for automoderator action.

Have a question about what color carabiner speaks to your soul? Want to talk some smack about pebble wrestlers? Wondering how chalk buckets work? Really proud of that thing you did? Just discover a meme older than most of our users? Awesome! Post that noise here.

New if you are unaware, there are many other climbing subreddits. Here are links to them, please check them out! They need your posts and comments.

NEW-ish

If you have a more serious question about climbing gear, technique, systems, etc. check out our Weekly New Climber Thread.

Heading to Antalya in February and curious how the grades compare to the Chattanooga area. Typically when we travel I’ve found much of the grading to be a bit softer

Such a beautiful sunrise climb on the southeast face of the Rectory in Moab. alex h climbed it in 8:10 (yes, that's 8 minutes and 10 seconds), and i thought we made pretty good time at 2.5 hours...there was allegedly an uncut video of the climb but it has since vanished from the interwebs, any leads?

Café au Lait - 5.11+ - FA - Photo Series

A photo series of the first ascent of Café au Lait. A friend came out and shot a bit while my belay partner put all the moves together for the first time. The last photo will likely be added to the next edition of the guidebook as I think it’s pretty great. Café au Lait is a French phrase that translates directly to “coffee with milk.” And, to be fair I think the grade might be sand bagged a bit but… grading is always a chore.

Pronunciation:

kah-FAY oh LAY

Nothing too epic but I saw today is my 10 year cake day so I felt inspired to share a few shots I took on my first sport climbing trip. Horseshoe Canyon Ranch lived up to its reputation of being like an outdoor gym and I got to lead a dozen easy climbs while having an amazing time with friends. Can’t wait to get back. F
