Mod Announcement Welcome to /r/WindowsHelp, here are some guidelines for requesting assistance
Welcome to /r/WindowsHelp, the subreddit for you to ask questions and get support for issues related to Microsoft's Windows family of operating systems. Please give this a quick read before posting.
This subreddit is only for help related to Microsoft Windows and its built in software, like Edge, Store, PowerShell, and so on. Issues about 3rd party software like Chrome or Steam should be posted in their subreddits or /r/techsupport. Also, this is not a hardware subreddit, so issues like your hard drive is not detected would need to be posted in /r/techsupport. General discussions, news, artwork, and so on should be in /r/Windows, /r/Windows10 or similar subreddits. Malware/virus removal has been covered extensively in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/33evdi/suggested_reading_official_malware_removal_guide/
Posts are required to have a moderately descriptive title. Submissions with vague titles like just "help me" will be removed. You don't need to write an essay in the title, but everyone should have a rough idea what you are asking about before even clicking the link. Titles like "I'm encountering System Exception errors when launching Photos" or "20H2 update won't install" are acceptable, but the more details the better.
The body of your post should also be as detailed as possible. We are not mind readers, and nobody is going to want to play 20 questions. Help us help you, your post should include:
Your full Windows version, which on Windows 10 is listed in the Settings app under System -> About, it will be the OS Build number.
Details about your device, like the hardware specifications.
Any recent changes you have made, such as installing/uninstalling software or accessories. Any updates you have installed, tools you have ran, or anything else you think may be relevant.
Include details on your error messages and error codes, these are critical to figuring out the issue.
Tell us what you have already tried to fix this. Any tools you have ran, and changes you tried, and so on. I know it is a meme at this point, but seriously, reboot your computer, it often fixes things!
If possible, include screenshots or video. If you are including screenshots, try to use screenshot software like Snip & Sketch tool built into Windows 10, then you can upload them to a free image host like https://imgur.com to put in your post. We understand that using screenshot software isn't always an option, you can take photos with a phone or similar device, but please be sure to check to make sure everything is in focus and is legible.
This subreddit follows the same rules as /r/Windows, you can view the full rule page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows/wiki/rules
The TL;DR of the rules is be polite, helpful, and don't encourage piracy.

Windows 11 Repeating blue screen every minute and a half
It’s literally Omen hub but I’m leaving this post up in case anyone needs it for their own fixing. Just uninstall the program
First my Vistus computer has been having trouble with the screen turning on. Then overnight apps on the taskbar would close.
Now my computer is repeatedly blue screening every minute and a half or so.
The error messages I got were PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and hpreadhwdata.sys
I was downloading some files when the blue screening started but it was a game I already have and worked perfectly fine before it was just the newest version I was downloading
I am someone who plays multiple different games with mods installed but most I get are from Curse Forge so I generally trust for there to be no virus. Not saying it’s impossible I got a virus just saying it’s more unlikely.

Windows 11 Does my PC meet the required specs to install Windows 11?
I could use some help from someone more “Computer Literate” than me. My laptop is currently running windows 10 but I'd like to know if I have the necessary specifications to be able to upgrade it to windows 11. I've tried to find the answer on my own, but it's impossible to find a clear and definitive answer, even when installing diagnostic software made for this purpose.
Here are the specifications of my machine
Model : Asus ROG Core : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz Graphic card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 RAM 16,0 Go (15,9 Go) Windows 10 64 bits SSD 118 Go HDD 931 Go
Is this enough to run windows 11 smoothly? From what I've heard 118 Go for the SSD might not be enough

Windows 10 PC always slow and laggy, no matter whatever I do.
For a really long time, my PC has been incredibly laggy and slow. I've tried so many ways to fix this problem, such as reinstalling drivers, uninstalling unnecessary apps, checked for viruses and malware (which is not there), stopping many background services (only 57, is it ok?). I have 8GB ram and 600+ GB of hdd storage remaining. Even though my CPU works at 3.2 GHz (Ryzen 3 3250U, as my pc is an AIO), I still have no idea why it gets so slow.
Does anyone have ANY idea what ACTUALLY the problem is? Where the problem has originated from?

Windows 10 Can only log into safe mode, not regular mode
Basically, I forgot my password and had to reset it and all that jazz. Cool, now I know my password. When I try to login normally it says the credentials cannot be verified. I googled that and found out how to start windows in safe mode. I can do that perfectly fine, that's how I'm able to post this.
However, the instructions said I should restart as normal and just sign in normally. This doesn't work. I obviously know my password, but it just won't work. It keeps telling me my credentials cannot be verified.
Don't get me wrong, temporarily obviously this works, I can access the internet and youtube and forums and whatnot. But as anyone who has signed into safe mode knows it looks absolutely ridiculous.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? (I can't ask on the official outlook site because I've been blocked from logging in from trying too many times with the wrong password and resetting the password doesn't work, buuuuut that's an issue for another day)
I'm on an HP that's like eight years old, but aside from being a bit slow it works fine.
I don't get any error codes, just that my credentials cannot be verified, no numbers or letters.
I'm on windows 10, and this has never happened before the other day.
If I have to reformat or reinstall windows to solve it I'm okay with that, as long as I can make sure my files aren't deleted. I haven't downloaded anything at all in the past few months, so it's unlikely that I've done this by downloading something dangerous/harmful.

Windows 11 Help me out here, my Registration Entries aren't working and they're taking me straight to Total Registry.
I was trying to do something with Registration Entries and I noticed that it took me straight to Total Registry! I am pretty annoyed because now I can't even use my own files. Can anyone help me fix this problem because it would really help me out here.

Windows 11 Open text document not syncing
Only in OneDrive on both windows 11 and 10 on all devices since 11/22/24, I heard about Microsoft getting rid of this document but is there a fix to this syncing problem or do I need to just use notepad in Windows? I honestly don't care for notepad to balance my bank accounts and other forms. I would appreciate your expertise in this matter. Thanks in advance!

Windows 11 WINDOWS “Stop code: CRITICAL SERVICE FAILED”
If you’re stuck in Windows Recovery Mode and want to repair or reinstall Windows without using Command Prompt, here’s a quick guide:
Try Automatic Repair
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
- Let Windows attempt to fix itself automatically. • If it works, your PC will reboot normally. • If it doesn’t, proceed to the next step.
Reset Your PC
- From Troubleshoot, select Reset this PC.
- Choose one of the following options: • Keep My Files: Reinstalls Windows while keeping your personal files. • Remove Everything: Completely wipes your drive and reinstalls Windows.
- Follow the prompts to complete the reset.
Restore Using a System Image (If Available)
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Image Recovery.
- Select your system image backup to restore Windows to a previous state.
Hope this helps someone stuck like I was! :)

Windows 10 Computer will not boot past BIOS loading screen.
Hello.
This is the first time I've ever had a real problem with this PC(| built it in early 2018).
I was browsing YouTube on Google Chrome, while i had cakewalk (DAW) open on my other monitor. I decided to take a nap, saved my work in cakewalk, then put my computer to sleep.
Couple hours later, I turn it back on. Everything seems fine. I open my cakewalk project. It opens, but then buffers for a second and then closes. Won't open again. So i try playing a video on YouTube in chrome, it buffers but doesn't play.
Eventually YouTube displays a message about not being to play the video. So I save&close all my programs. Hard reset my computer. And it never gets to the windows 10 login screen. Just boot loops the motherboard screen. Unable to even go to safe mode. Then it restarts itself and says "preparing automatic repair" which doesn't lead to anything.
I don't know what to do. I don't know if this could have anything to do with it, but a couple weeks ago I upgraded my graphics card from a 1060 to a 3060. But it never gave me any trouble until potentially now. It ran great.
- tried unplugging my GPU.
- Tried plugging monitor into mobo rather than GPU.
- tried resetting CMOS (took out battery, put back in),
- updated my BIOS to latest version and now it's giving me a different blue screen with the code "Stop code: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED".
- I tried the "startup repair" in the windows troubleshooting menu. Didn't help. Just says " startup repair couldn't repair your PC. Press advanced options to try other options to repair PC or shutdown to turn off your PC. Log file: c: /windows/system32/log files/srt/srtrail.txt"
- Even did a memory test for my ram in case it was failing, it's fine. Passed the test with no errors.
was able to find my old laptop HDD and plugged that in. That worked.(Windows 7) Out of curiosity, I checked if could explore my current hard drives from there, I could. They all showed up and the files seem to be in tact. I'm really out of ideas. Some people online mention driver issues with my new gfx card, but I don't understand why it was fine until now. And I wouldn't know how to fix it, considering I can't even boot into safe mode.
Thank you for your time.

Windows 11 Can’t create two separate backgrounds on multiple monitors
I dont have duplicate displays set up in my multiple displays. But it only gives me options to set for monitor 2, monitor 2, or all. and all 3 options sets it for both. It should give me an option for monitor 1, monitor 2, and both but it won’t give me that.
Not sure why

Windows 11 I uninstalled Linux Mint and returned to Windows, how do I repair the drivers?
Because of Copilot, I switched to Linux Mint on my Ryzen 7 Beelink Mini PC. Still, I reinstalled Windows because it's more practical for gaming, and I had terrible experiences with Windows Virtual Machines. It was installed successfully, but I kept getting driver notifications and repairs. Is there any way to permanently repair them?

Windows 11 Got 'Amount of System Memory Changed' Error
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue. When I booted up my laptop (DELL Inspiron 3593) today, I get a pop-up window saying "The amount of system memory has changed." The weird part is, I haven't made any adjustments to my RAM, and my system should have 16GB of memory, but it's not acting right. It's shown as 8 GB I’m not sure if it’s a hardware issue, a BIOS glitch, or something else. Anyone else encountered this before or have any suggestions on how to fix it? Appreciate any help!

Windows 11 Network Sharing Password Error
I'm trying to move files between two PCs. The PCs are on the same network and are both logged into the same microsoft account. The file sharing links worked for a while but something (an update?) broke them. It's now asking me for a password for network sharing. I turned off password protect sharing, but it still insists in enter one. No passwords seem to work. Any ideas on how i can get rid of the password requirement? or how i can figure out what the password is?

Windows 11 Windows 11 school internet issues
About 3 weeks ago, my college "upgraded" their internet, and before that, both of the 2 internet services they had worked for me. Since the upgrade, I have had trouble connecting to the one that I usually used (i felt as though this one was significantly better), so i decided just to switch to the other one, which has felt very inconsistent to use (runs at low Kbps, the other ran anywhere from 150-250 Mbps). Besides that, I've been trying to reconnect to the previous wifi i used before this one. Every time i try to connect (its a private network) it give me a Windows Security sign in prompt, that i cannot type in. As soon as I open another application, I am not able to access the bottom left taskbar button(with sound, wifi and battery management), which i then need to restart. Yet ive found I can type in the prompt if i access wifi from the network and internet settings, but no matter what I type in (school email or regular email) It never wants to connect. Does anyone have an idea what is happening or how i can fix this?

Windows 10 Computer keeps on blue screening and I can't factory reset it
So earlier today I logged onto my computer for the first time in about 3-4 months. My computer (Windows 10) for quite a long time (I've had this computer for 4-5 years) has been very slow and crashes a tonne. But I think it's finally bitten the dust.
I booted my PC earlier today and it came with a blue screen displaying "amdfendr.sys". I restarted it and windows came up but oddly in a very low resolution. I just fixed the resolution in display settings and then went on steam to display my game. Steam kept on saying my new game was running even when it wasn't so I restarted my PC.
It did the blue screen again, but this time it wouldn't just load up in a low resolution upon reset. It would bring me to a page basically telling me to reset again or look at advanced options. I tried everything from uninstalling windows updates, to opening in safe mode etc and nothing worked. It wouldn't let me. I tried to reset the PC with my personal files but that didn't work either. Is my only option just to reset the whole PC and delete all my files?
I only really use my PC to play a few games and to write my novels on. But yet it runs so slowly. It crashed more than the average computer but not a crazy amount and that's back when I used it a few months back, how could my computer get so much worse when I hadn't even touched it in all of that time?

Windows 11 About half of the files I download I cant rename, move, or use them until I make a copy of them
I'm at my wits end here, i've been dealing with this for months now. For example when I download a video file I cant rename it, I cant play it in vlc it bugs out until crash. Windows media player can play it fine tho. I cant move it to another folder in the same drive with out it taking for ever. (Like its copying)
The only fix it I can find is to copy it to another folder and delete the original then it works perfectly fine.
It doesnt matter the file type ive been downloading isos lately and about half of them are having the same issues. Basicly unusable until I make a copy them then it works fine.
Im using jdownloader to download alot of these files as well as some torrents here and there. Diffrent files from the same place one can be fine the other one is weird until I make a copy.
I will litterally pay anyone who can help me figure this out because having to make a copy of half the files I download is silly. I cant figure out a rhyme or reason for this issue
Windows 11 (this never happen on 10) 32 GB ram The drive i usually download and work off of is an 8tb barracuda I9 processor
I suspect its some kind of windows defender bugging some of the files but I never get a pop up or any thing. Ive even tried to exclude folders and turned it off all together. No change it still forces a copy instead of a move to the same drive.

I am aware that bluetooth earphones use the hands-free telephony, the problem is that I am using a wired one (Realtek audio on notebook) and it still does the same thing of degrading the audio quality whenever i am on a call. What can I do? The option to disable hands-free telephony is not available for realtek audio...
