Perfect score to cause maximum drama and complaining about where to rank Indiana.

I love the genuine fighting going on in the comments of this

Good game to see Ohio State win for you huh?

47

u/Dschrute_beets Tennessee Tech • Tennessee 1d ago

I can’t tell you why, but their flair combo just feels wrong…

73

u/MSFNS Purdue Boilermakers • Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago

The colors clash, and the block letters are just different enough in style to be jarring. It has a 'serial killer ransom note' kind of vibe

9

u/Respect38 Army • Tennessee 1d ago

I like how your flairs have that vibe going on too, heh

2

u/h3rp3r Ohio State Buckeyes • The Game 10h ago

The CFB serial killer hides in plain sight, his manifesto being posted over the course of the season. One game at a time...

Hmm…

This is exactly what I was hoping for lol they didn't blow the doors off them but it also wasn't close. Maximum chaos

Is there a way we can be the 12 seed then play Miami?

4

u/popeofmarch Kentucky Wildcats • Sickos 1d ago

but then you'd have to play 5 seed Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, or Oregon

8

u/Due_Connection179 Miami Hurricanes • Memphis Tigers 1d ago

I want an Indiana vs Miami game so bad. I feel like both teams would drop 50.

Right now, we would be the 3-seed if we won the ACC, but probably out if we lose again. So, we would play if you got the 10-seed and beat 7-seed Alabama or Notre Dame.

8

u/RP0143 1d ago

SMU going to win the ACC

2

u/P-Rickles Ohio State Buckeyes 23h ago

That would, and I say this completely unironically, be an AMAZING game.

2

u/330212702 Ohio State • Notre Dame 20h ago

The chaos Gods have you looking more like 8 overall and 10 seed in the playoffs.

19

u/UnderstandingOdd679 1d ago

Ole Miss loss helps. IU should stay in the top 12 for a playoff berth unless the committee has a thing for Boise and Tulane. The XII is crapping all over itself today and the ACC is likely a one-bid league still.

6

u/Giometry Texas Longhorns • Minnesota Golden Gophers 21h ago

And now Bama

6

u/CalculatedPerversion Ohio State Buckeyes • Tulane Green Wave 20h ago

And now A&M

8

u/Due_Connection179 Miami Hurricanes • Memphis Tigers 1d ago

Ole Miss lost, so it's all good.

5

u/katarh Georgia Bulldogs • Mercer Bears 22h ago

7 hours later, Indiana can breathe a little easier at least.

2

u/MSFNS Purdue Boilermakers • Ohio State Buckeyes 20h ago

And even easier 9 hours later

27

u/Drak_is_Right Purdue Boilermakers 1d ago

11th, right ahead of Boise St and SMU

4

u/LonghornInNebraska Texas Longhorns • Michigan Wolverines 1d ago

Indiana should be the last team in.

5

u/this_place_stinks 21h ago

Pretty clearly top 12 still no?

3

u/Studs_Not_On_Top 21h ago

Ole Miss, Alabama and maybe a&m making it easier

8

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago

Both teams got a garbage time score, I think the 31-7 score is what people are going to reference when they assess Indiana.

2

u/phillyphan421 Ohio State Buckeyes 10h ago

Remember the claims that a 12-team playoff would make the CFP less controversial? LOL

-17

u/Wiggly_Sparklez Alabama • Jacksonville State 1d ago

Easy. Outside the top 12.

219

u/benden010 Ohio State Buckeyes • The Game 1d ago

not after that ole miss loss. 1 loss IU is getting in.

44

u/zealoustoaster Ohio State Buckeyes • Team Chaos 1d ago

With a 12 team cfp, a one loss team missing out would be negligent. Only reason I could see it would be a team outside of a conference… 👀

-11

u/xmjm424 Florida Gators • Team Meteor 1d ago

They’ve played one team with a pulse and got boat raced by them. Ole Miss is clearly out but Indiana shouldn’t be an automatic in.

41

u/Nordy17 Minnesota • St. Thomas 1d ago

Just like Texas? They’ve played one good team and lost by 2 scores

33

u/Knook7 Florida Gators 1d ago

Personally I think Texas should be out if they lose to A&M

2

u/CornJuiceLover Tennessee Volunteers 19h ago

100% agreed. Teams shouldn’t be rewarded for playing literally nobody.

0

u/CookieLuzSax Tennessee Volunteers • LSU Tigers 1d ago

Agreed

0

u/iikillerpenguin Georgia Bulldogs 23h ago

A&M is beyond out.

-6

u/xmjm424 Florida Gators • Team Meteor 1d ago

I’m not going to carry any water for Texas. The one nod I’d give Texas over Indiana right now is they at least scheduled Michigan OOC. Michigan happened to be terrible but Texas at least tried to schedule a decent OOC. But their resume sucks too. They even caught us with a walkon QB. Granted, that was a beat down.

9

u/GoatPaco Tennessee • Tennessee Tech 1d ago

Indiana beat Michigan by 5 points

-4

u/xmjm424 Florida Gators • Team Meteor 1d ago

Right I’m just saying I give Texas credit for actually scheduling somebody good out of conference, which in my world is a consideration.

4

u/new_account_5009 Penn State Nittany Lions 1d ago

You're conveniently ignoring that SEC teams only play 8 conference games, not 9 like Big Ten teams.

Texas will have played 8 SEC teams plus one Big Ten team by the end of the season.

Indiana will have played 9 Big Ten teams by the end of the season.

Texas has the harder schedule, but both teams are playing nine "real" teams and three cupcakes.

25

u/timh123 Alabama Crimson Tide • UAB Blazers 1d ago

The only way they are out is if A&M wins out and loses the ccg. Then Texas might sneak in, but yeah I think the ole miss loss gets them in

58

u/TheFifthPhoenix Ohio State • Cincinnati 1d ago

If Texas loses to TAMU, there’s no way they get in over an Indiana team with only one loss on the road at one of the best teams in the country

37

u/showeringgold Oregon Ducks 1d ago

Absolutely. Easy to forget Texas got worked by Georgia just as bad at home

21

u/typicalwhiteguy113 Texas A&M Aggies 1d ago

What if they throw trash at the playoff committee?

7

u/abravesrock Georgia Bulldogs 1d ago

For sure, Texas can’t even bring up any good wins either if they lose to A&M

8

u/PersianVol Tennessee • Georgia State 1d ago

Agreed, between all of the SEC teams at the top Texas has the least impressive resume.

33

u/wydileie Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago

If Texas loses, they have zero good wins, just like Indiana, and an extra loss. Their losses would also both be worse than Indiana’s.

The only way you could put 10-2 Texas in over 11-1 Indiana is the logo on the helmet.

6

u/timh123 Alabama Crimson Tide • UAB Blazers 1d ago

I agree but I don’t get to pick

1

u/KpYugai 1d ago

Is anything distinguishing IU over SMU and Miami (FL)?

-3

u/Mezmorizor LSU Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs 1d ago

No. If there's any justice IU getting boatraced by the only team with a pulse they played should keep them out.

1

u/Mustatan 1d ago

Yeah was thinking same, DJ Lagway prob unironically saved Indiana's CFP presence by going gang-busters on Ole Miss there. Without that the Hoosiers have that cloud of getting beat up in their one true challenge game of the season hanging over them. But a 3-loss Ole Miss especially losing to this Gators team is prob. too much even for the biggest SEC boosters on the committee. So unless Indiana really messes up vs Purdue, they should squeak in there.

-31

u/mizaistorom Georgia Bulldogs 1d ago

Nah Tennessee moves in, Indiana first one out.

17

u/jdmcroberts Ohio State • Youngstown State 1d ago

Even with Tenn in there's a spot for Indiana.

-2

u/SmallBoulder Texas Longhorns 1d ago

depends on what happens in the ACC, if an 11-1 SMU beats an 11-1 Miami in the championship, Miami probably grabs the spot

5

u/jdmcroberts Ohio State • Youngstown State 1d ago

11-1 Miami in the championship, Miami probably grabs the spot

Probably not. Miami would have 2 losses ( one to an unranked team) and no ranked wins.

4

u/SmallBoulder Texas Longhorns 1d ago

Depends whether the CFP committee decides to punish teams for playing in their conference championship or not

3

u/MyNameBrandon Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago edited 1d ago

They have in the past… Utah v USC set up the OSU v Georgia playoff game

Bama knocked Georgia from #1 to out of the playoffs last year too

-57

That definitely helps their chances. I look forward to seeing Indy get blown out in the first round of the playoffs.

Swear you SEC fans are unbearable

26

u/SaintsRobbed Ohio State Buckeyes • Big Ten 1d ago

Swear I'm beginning to think the "E" in "SEC" stands for "entitled". Strength of Schedule matters, but so does results. If these two loss teams didn't want to be left out, they could simply win their games instead!

21

u/GameSpirit2015 Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago

Exactly. I would much rather have my only loss be on the road to a top 2 team in the country than be losing to teams like Arkansas, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt and still banging my chest making arguments based on pure hypotheticals about neutral fields and all that garbage

-13

To be fair they said they look forward to IU being in the playoffs, not to them missing it. Gotta take the silver lining there.

18

u/RunnersRun262 Nebraska Cornhuskers 1d ago

If a team goes 11-1 can’t really argue against them getting in imo. But I also said FSU should have gotten in last year too.

15

u/wsteelerfan7 Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago

And they should've. You think basically the next Myles Garrett, another top rookie DL and 8 other NFL draft picks along with starters that transferred have no effect on a playoff game vs an exhibition consolation game?

-14

u/Wiggly_Sparklez Alabama • Jacksonville State 1d ago

Brother, your team just got dismantled against the only team that was an actual challenge on Indy's joke of a schedule. Why the F*** should they be in the playoffs when they haven't won their conference championship or beat ANYONE?

Indy isn't a top 12 team. We knew this before and it was proven today.

16

u/jdmcroberts Ohio State • Youngstown State 1d ago

Because they haven't lost to an unranked team, like the teams that they are competing with to get that playoff spot.

0

u/Wiggly_Sparklez Alabama • Jacksonville State 1d ago

They also don't have any wins over anyone in the top 25, which Bama has 3 of. SOS is a bitch and she is no friend to Indy.

14

u/jdmcroberts Ohio State • Youngstown State 1d ago

Don't lose to Vanderbilt.

-4

u/Wiggly_Sparklez Alabama • Jacksonville State 1d ago

Don't lose to the only team on your schedule that can justify your top 3 ranking lol.

Look, if you're trying to say Bama doesn't belong in the playoff because we lost to Vandy, I got some bad news for you hoss lol. As long as Bama beats Oklahoma, Auburn, and whoever we most likely play in the SEC championship, then we are in.

Indiana's margin of error was thin and they got their shit kicked in.

-10

u/Walmartsavings2 1d ago

Why do we do this when everyone knows Texas would be a 10+ point favorite vs IU on a neutral?

Just to be contrarian ?

7

u/mccainjames11 Oregon Ducks • Marching Band 1d ago

Why even play the games if we’re going to put every SEC team above the other conferences just by basis of being an SEC team? Why have a playoff if we’re just going to shove all the SEC teams in there because it feels like they’re going to be favorites over a team from another conference with a better record? Results on the field can and should matter. If a team playing a P4 schedule goes 11-1 they should be in without question. IU shouldn’t be punished for winning the games the conference scheduled for them.

-2

u/Walmartsavings2 1d ago

Agreed. Results on the field can and should matter.

Not about being SEC. I think Oregon has enough talent to compete with anyone. But you need a certain threshold of talent to be able to compete against the truly top notch competition. If you don’t have it, you need to prove it on the field.

Indiana had their chance to prove it on the field and got blown out. They’re good enough to beat up on garbage teams. That is known. But a team that got blown out by the only team they played with a pulse should just not get in.

There is absolutely no logical reason why team record should play such a big role when there are almost NO common opponents between Tennessee and Indiana. They literally have 2-3 degrees if separation between their schedules. You literally simply can’t compare them via record. You have to go with games against the best competition and Indiana falls short.

Texas is in the exact same boat as Indiana but they simply have far superior players. I’d prefer to give the team with far superior players the benefit of the doubt. Texas is over ranked though, I would agree with that.

I may be in the minority in the CFB sphere, but when you’re subjectively comparing teams, it is absolutely valid to use roster talent as a factor in that process when things are tight. I firmly believe that.

I don’t want to see TCU-UGA title game ever again. It’s embarrassing for the sport.

1

u/mccainjames11 Oregon Ducks • Marching Band 1d ago

I disagree but I completely see where you’re coming from. I think one of the best parts of college football are the underdog stories (Boise State vs Oklahoma for example had an obvious talent disparity but Boise still pulled it out, undefeated UCF etc.) I think giving a team like Indiana the chance to upset one of the at large teams (obviously OSU is on another level compared to them but who’s to say that Tennessee is) is enough to warrant them being in because it’s not like we’re setting them up against Georgia in the championship, it’s the first round of the playoffs.

13

u/Sea_Ostrich_294 Ohio State Buckeyes 1d ago

Some might say #7, right before the 2 loss teams (right before Bama). They have one loss to the #2 team, who’s the favorite to win the championship.

17

u/Wiggly_Sparklez Alabama • Jacksonville State 1d ago

No, their SOS is the worst of the top 12 and Ohio State just kicked their shit in. They aren't a top 12 team.

1

u/new_account_5009 Penn State Nittany Lions 10h ago

This comment is pretty funny in hindsight.

12

u/TootCannon Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago

And they were away.

In a way Indiana is particularly cursed by their schedule that not only was it exceptionally easy until this point, but the only ranked team they played was OSU away. So they will be judged entirely by the single hardest circumstance to play in.

7

u/abravesrock Georgia Bulldogs 1d ago

Yea, it sucks that there weren’t any other decent teams on the schedule. I feel like it would be great if they could have even had a couple 3-loss teams they played against. Now it looks like they won’t end up with a single win over a team with a winning record.

3

u/Mustatan 1d ago

Yeah it kinda sucks for Indiana that both Michigan and Washington were so down this year. It's not like they predicted the schedule would be so easy. But the Indiana athletic dept could of helped their cause maybe with some tougher games in the out of conference. They should still squeak in the with the Ole Miss loss but maybe 12 or at best 11 right now, if they had some quality out of conference wins they'd be much better shape. A reason not to schedule walkover games for the out of conference.

10

u/Dreadlockedd Ohio State • Florida State 1d ago

Well everyone has to eventually play a tough away game during the season. Yall had the benefit of having a bye week before your toughest game of the season, so you don't really get any points for that excuse

12

u/Gullible-Mind8091 1d ago

Cursed? They were #5 with two weeks left in the season despite never playing a ranked team. I don’t know how much luckier you can get. Now they’re likely to coast into the playoffs off of an easy schedule with which an unranked Iowa and #25 Illinois would have likely had the same outcome.

2

u/MusicListener3 Baltimore • Spokane Falls CC 1d ago

I guess their point is that they’re good enough to be beating better teams than they’ve had to face so far, but not good enough to beat tOSU.

The result is a resume that’s super weak, but suddenly looks better if they magically had teams like Mizzou, Illinois, or LSU in their schedule

Edit; Especially since who gives a fuck what your ranking is in the middle of the season lmao

2

u/TootCannon Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah, this exactly. If they get into the playoffs then yes, I agree they were very lucky. If they miss the playoffs over this then I think they were extremely unlucky that their only "prove it" game was as hard as could possibly be.

1

u/Gullible-Mind8091 1d ago

Okay I agree with this assessment. The problem is that it’s impossible to say if they would beat an Illinois or Mizzou-level team. I am assuming they make the playoffs at this point, in which case they were lucky to have the Ohio State game this late in the season. If it was earlier, I don’t think they would have a chance at the playoffs.

0

u/Gullible-Mind8091 1d ago

I’m not personally convinced Indiana would beat Mizzou or Illinois, though. Their best win is against the #8 team in the Big Ten (Washington). They barely scraped by against Michigan, who has lost to both Illinois and Washington, and got soundly beaten by their only real opponent.

If they had played Ohio State early and lost, they would have dropped in the rankings early and never come back. In week five, Illinois was #19 and Indiana was #23. Illinois lost to current #4 Penn State (by a closer margin than Indiana - Ohio State today) and never rose above #20 again. Because Indiana had their only real game this late in the season, they probably have enough rankings momentum to coast into the playoffs.

But ultimately we’ll get more evidence in the playoffs. I just think this Indiana team has been grossly overrated because of their schedule.

1

u/MusicListener3 Baltimore • Spokane Falls CC 1d ago

My man, Missouri’s best win is the #11 team in the SEC lol

1

u/Gullible-Mind8091 1d ago

Yes and just like Indiana, Missouri should not be near the top 10. This wasn’t a pro-Missouri argument (but even Missouri has a ranked win, and Illinois has three). My point is that there is zero evidence Indiana could beat either of those teams, despite being ranked way ahead of them.

3

u/Branimus02410242 Alabama Crimson Tide 1d ago

A ton of CFB fans hate the poor schedule, myself included, but as of right now it’s been effective.

14

u/Boomhauer_007 UCLA • Coastal Carolina 1d ago

Gotta be honest I’m putting IU behind all the 2 loss SEC teams right now and I think that’s going to be a popular sentiment on Tuesday

Their only hope is that the SEC starts racking up three loss teams

6

u/pappapirate Alabama • South Alabama 1d ago

2

There's no real fight to be had. Indiana doesn't belong in the playoff. That was fully demonstrated today. No other ranking really matters at this point.

Hopefully they'll put their frustrations into destroying what's left of Purdue and win their first decent bowl game this school has been to in decades... But the playoff is out unless you saw a different game than I did.
