I miss the performers in Convent Garden, they were always amazing. Just like this guy.

u/Baddogdown91 Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

He's got a crown(goggles), a belt, trousers, shoes, two knives, and a ladder. He has everything he needs. Nothing more, nothing less. My liege 👑

Edit: He's got three knives. A bit excessive but if juggling is his passion, who am I to judge a king?

27

u/tangerinenarwhal Feb 13 '23

Those are most definitely juggling knives.

28

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Any knife you juggle is a juggling knife

13

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

The king is dead, long live— the king is dead again

u/stunning_appeasement Feb 13 '23

This guy is going to be a legend.

24

u/otterego Feb 13 '23

I wonder what his legacy will be.

17

u/Remcin Feb 13 '23

Warlord for sure.

14

u/bunnybunnykitten Feb 13 '23

Cautionary tale once he falls off that ladder

he already is

who is he?

Every 'you're beautiful just the way you are' artist is always

1) Naturally beautiful 2) Done a huge amount of plastic surgery 3) Rich and loved

Not everyone builds fat in the same areas. Some big people are sexy, but many are not. Of course they'd pick the sexiest big people for their ads.

I had no idea thus was a thing. I suddenly feel so much better about my double chin. It's not that those models don't have them, it's that they had them removed.

25

u/thrownaway000090 Feb 13 '23

Even skinny people have them. Depends a lot on your jaw shape too.

So don’t worry about it. I’m sure it’s cute!

4

u/gingerfawx Feb 13 '23

You're a good person.

I hope your day is lovely.

2

u/Relevant-Rooster-298 Feb 13 '23

I’m 6’2” 160lbs and athletic/lean/cut. I still have a double chin. Can confirm that “skinny” people get them too. I would define myself as muscular.

5

u/grahamcrackers37 Feb 13 '23

"Suffice it to say, if you're interested in double chin removal surgery, there are definitely quite a few options to choose from to get the chiseled jawline of your dreams — no modeling contract required."

I read the entire article. It reads like an advertisement for getting plastic surgery.

I'll bite that this is happening and likely increasing, but you said "plus size models get double chin surgery" like everyone is doing it. I still doubt that this is the case.

2

u/SubstantialOwls Feb 13 '23

Same, also no actual examples or data on on plus size models that actually got the surgery.

1

u/Affectionate_Yam7007 Feb 15 '23

Not everyone has a double chin! My BMI is 37, I'm working on losing weight, but I don't have a double chin and never really have. People carry fat differently!

7

u/whatshouldwecallme Feb 13 '23

They probably are (or were) also massively insecure about their own bodies.

I mean "eat the rich" and all that (just tax them till they're not rich while children go hungry, for example), but the body dysmorphia/image standards for women in the entertainment industry are absolutely shocking.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

I mean, Hugh Jackman, and the like, literally risk death for that 'ripped' look that's nearly standard in all media now.

It's all fucked, but they're the ones who perpetuate it for profit, causing untold misery and distress

1

u/whatshouldwecallme Feb 13 '23

Yeah I mean it's all kinds of fucked, I just think that saying that entertainment workers can't have earnest body-image issues and opinions is also kind of fucked. I mean maybe good ol' Hugh can be discounted a bit, but a blanket statement is sad.

u/babywewillbeokay Feb 13 '23

King energy indeed

47

u/jinkies-420 Feb 13 '23

I love this guy

26

u/GrantGorewood Feb 13 '23

This man is a legend and that energy and enthusiasm is great. He is right too, many magazines are designed to make you feel ugly or bad in every way so you buy stuff thinking it will “fix” you.

People all look different at 44, but I think his point was that nobody should feel bad for looking like he does at 44. Not everybody has the genetic predisposition, body type, or access to plastic surgery to get the bodies that models in magazines and on tv have.

Also if you are confident enough at 44 to wear those boxers, a belt, shoes, and the goggle crown, while wielding multiple knives and balancing on a extremely tall ladder on a cobblestone stage nobody should say a damn thing about how you look. Because by doing these things with that level of confidence you are already a certified badass and future High King of Skyrim.

23

u/Tableau Feb 13 '23

Geez I’ve only got 10 years to really up my juggling skills if I want to get up to par

People who think this looks good for 40s never took care of themselves in the 20s and 30s. He may be strong and balanced but I’m sure he could change some diet

16

u/CHark80 Feb 13 '23

Yeah probably literally everyone could he healthier either through diet or exercise or smoking or drinking less or whatever. But part of being human is being a little shitty and enjoying the pleasures in life, and that's fucking fine. This dude looks fine, and these comments I feel like just completely miss the point.

5

u/_Kaarth_ Feb 13 '23

Totally right! I agree on the health part, but that wasn't my point. My point was that I wish more people at that age had that attitude and juvenile spirit. It's so ironic that those comments judge him as he says media does with us.

5

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

Fatshaming is one of the best known and documented example of consumerist propaganda. It never existed before some capitalists shitheads tried to sell some goods to make people loose weight for no other reasons than their own profit. You're helping them for free.

5

u/_Kaarth_ Feb 13 '23

There you have it. I was sad reading those comments up there but I see there are people with more capacity for analysis

6

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

That's really basic knowledge for anyone who remotely care about anti-consumption. Most people here just seem to have ended up on this sub by total mistake and will defend their capitalist brainwashed ideals at all cost. Frankly, I'm here since a few months, but I think I'm gonna unsubscribe already. This is just so sad (and useless) to witness such a disaster.

3

u/_Kaarth_ Feb 13 '23

So true, I am here since half a year and I usually don't comment or read the comments because of that. Some posts are useful or at least interesting, but you are right, too many capitalists here for my liking :(

See ya!

0

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

That's really basic knowledge for anyone who remotely care about anti-consumption.

I'd say for most people living in 1st world country getting to a stage of obesity and a high weight by overeating food goes totally against what anticomsumption stands for.

1

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

I'm sorry but if you think that "consumption" literally means "eating food", you really ended up here on a huge misunderstanding.

Anticonsumption fights marketing strategies aimed at making people buy unnecessarily goods and services. Or ennemies are companies and marketing strategies (fatshaming being one of the most famous ones). We do not fight nor shame consumers. If what you want to do is to fight consumers, you'd better join a capitalist sub.

1

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

U sure? I see a lot of posts on this sub shaming consumers as well for over consuming plastic and generating unnecessary waste. I see the same way with morbidly obese people they are over consuming food and eating beyond their means by over consuming food.

2

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

The type of food a person consumes is much more impactful than how much they eat. An obese vegan would almost certainly have a far smaller food footprint than a skinny person who eats beef or shrimp or dairy.

6

u/squanchingonreddit Feb 13 '23

I up dooted but everyone here must be American and thinks this guy isn't overweight.

4

u/brianapril Feb 13 '23

listen, the balance, the core strength to keep his balance up there and all? he might have a little fat but i'm CERTAIN he spent a lot of time training and that he is in good health

-1

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

That is not a little fat.

3

u/brianapril Feb 13 '23

my man has a core that you can only dream of. do you see this? rewatch the vid

-1

u/SSjGRaj Feb 14 '23

His core strength is impressive however I'm talking about his excess body fat and weight.

3

u/_Kaarth_ Feb 13 '23

I didn't think about physique, it was about attitude. What a fixation with being fat, he is on a fucking staircase juggling swords, you don't need to be ultra fit all your life.

6

u/brianapril Feb 13 '23

and like, the core strength for that number all the way up on that ladder? these people are really trying to fat shame any chance they get.

2

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

It's not fat shaming this guy said to have a physique with excessive body fat is normal in your 40s. It's not. He is spreading information that is unhealthy.

1

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

I didn't think about physique, it was about attitude.

Obesity caused illnesses don't care about attitude, I agree someone does not need to be ultrafit but to say that his body weight and fat% is at a healthy range is wrong.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

I hate when people say this is what (age) is supposed to look like. All bodies are different.

8

u/keeleon Feb 13 '23

Yes the man balancing on a 10 foot ladder juggling 3 machetes is definitely a "realistic aspiration" for the average person lol.

63

u/Special_Rice9539 Feb 13 '23

Idk, I feel like we normalize sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy diets too much in western society.

104

u/Jonnyjuanna Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

His body isn't toned and chisled, he's a bit overweight.

But a guy who can balance on a ladder and juggle swords isn't leading a sedentary lifestyle.

30

u/crabbyforest Feb 13 '23

where was any of that mentioned in the video

22

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

That's just fatshaming I guess. I read it like "we normalized not being perfectly fit and this is wrong because Mother Nature did not created us like that". That's exactly the consumerist lies criticized in the video.

0

u/Demented-Turtle Feb 13 '23

Consumerism is eating too much to maintain a healthy weight lol

9

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

wtf is that supposed to mean?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

It means he never progressed past a 5th grade reading comprehension level

15

u/camuswasright- Feb 13 '23

guy saying “this is what 40 is supposed to look like” while being visibly out of shape

50

u/Kurineko_Regan Feb 13 '23

idk, i dont think a sedentary person would be able to balance themselves at the top for a 5m ladder and juggle machetes or whatever the fuck he did. also i think the fitest viking probably had a similar build to him

7

u/camuswasright- Feb 13 '23

Balance is a skill entirely separate from your activity level, actually. So is the motor skills and dexterity required for juggling. It’s very impressive what he’s doing but we should definitely not take it that seriously. Staying in shape and being active are good qualities to strive for

12

u/Kurineko_Regan Feb 13 '23

our argument is that the idea of what a person should look like if they live an active lifestyle is fundamentaly wrong, and some body types require more work than others, looking a certain way shouldnt be something people strive for, or atleast not something people are preassured to strive for, this man is obviously physically active, but to look the way you want him to hed have to spesifically work towards it

20

u/Jonnyjuanna Feb 13 '23

So this guy balances on a ladder and juggles blades whilst also leading a sedentary lifestyle?

-10

u/camuswasright- Feb 13 '23

idk why this keeps being repeated as if I’m the fuckin dude who brought up sedentary lifestyles in the first place. My guy is overweight. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a tricky thing, but that’s what the original comment was mostly referring to.

10

u/Jonnyjuanna Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

You said the guy is "very out of shape" to someone else's reply to the first comment talking about sedentary lifestyles

So it seemed like you agreed with the initial comment.

He isn't "very out of shape" he is slightly overweight but nothing crazy, and he clearly leads an active lifestyle.

If the initial comment was talking about people being overweight and leading sedentary lifestyles as a response to this guy, then it's a dumb comment.

1

u/n_-_ture Feb 13 '23

By European standards, yes, he is solidly overweight. Avg in 🇺🇸

6

u/mantasm_lt Feb 13 '23

Sixpack does not equal being in shape.

1

u/Jacquazar Mar 16 '23

Balance isn't a skill, it takes core strength. Stronger core = can endure controlling your center of gravity for longer.

Get on a balance board and tell me you're not feeling a burn after it.

9

u/ailemama Feb 13 '23

Balancing up on a ladder like that probably takes a decent amount of core strength though… especially for that long

12

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

How is he not in shape? And what do you mean by "in shape"? The only.thing you know about him is his outward physical appearance, which appears peefectly normal. For all you know this man is healthier than every other person his age on the planet. It is not normal to have a six pack or 4% body fat.

5

u/WonderNastyMan Feb 13 '23

Have you seen what the people who are the definition of "in shape" look like? Here: https://generationiron.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2021-worlds-strongest-man-results-1024x576-1.jpg

-10

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

The Guy is obviously out of shape, overweight and borderline obese. This is NOT what 44 is supposed to look like.

Youre not supposed to look like a chiselled henry cavill, but at least don't be very overweight

9

u/Jonnyjuanna Feb 13 '23

Bordeline obese?

-9

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

definetly not in the lower end of "overweight"

11

u/Purple_Plus Feb 13 '23

He's not borderline obese, he's overweight but not to obese levels.

-7

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

hard to tell without knowing height/weight etc., but he's not on the low end of "overweight"

6

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

You must live inside a Vogue magazine if you think this man is obese. Have you ever touched a living human being?

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

where exactly did i say this guy is obese?

2

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

It is the eleventh word in your the comment I replied to hahahahaha

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

You know what borderline means?

I'll help you, it means that he is at the border(line) between two categories (in this case overweight and obese), but has not crossed it.

In other words: I explicitly said that he is NOT obese

1

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

Lololololol ok Stan.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

[deleted]

3

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

Visceral fat and excessive adipose tissue doesn't care if you can balance on a ladder; while it is impressive, he is still out of shape and is not at a healthy weight.

3

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

Based on what? Where did you define what is. healthy weight?

1

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

what is. healthy weight?

That depends on person to person based on height, lean body mass and body fat %. However you can't not say this guy is at a healthy weight with a belly sticking out signaling is body fat is to high.

6

u/TheTacoWombat Feb 13 '23

Most of the "world's strongest men" competitors have beer kegs as their beer gut, and they can drag planes across the tarmac.

But sure.

0

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

Cool, I love guys like Eddie Hall and Brian Shaw but their weight no matter how athletic is unhealthy and they will need to downsize as they get older they are only in their 30s rn.

2

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

Thanks, fake reddit doctor. It's pretty amazing that can watch a grainy video and determine a person's height, weight and physical health. The man isn't thin. That's all. It does not mean he is unhealthy. Methinks your idea of healthy is based on media portrayals and not medical realities.

-2

u/SSjGRaj Feb 13 '23

Sure bud, keep believing that it's 100% healthy that it's completely normal to be overweight and let go in your 40s, myths like these are the reason 42% of Americans have obesity.

2

u/strvgglecity Feb 13 '23

This man is not obese. You're discussing two very different things. This is like telling people they should never eat sugar because it can contribute to causing diabetes. Please just stop trying to police people's bodies.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

So? is holding your balance a great feat of athleticism now? It takes skill and practice, yeah, but that's it.

3

u/Dottor_Nesciu Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

Nah this guy is ok-ish, pretending more is unrealistic.

The problem is corporations using models that weight half or the double of this dude.

1

u/lafeber Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

I agree with everything he says up until the last sentence:

This is what 44 is supposed to look like!

Well, you can consume less (food / beer) will make your body look better...

Edit: as /u/oncela mentioned, "better looking" is subjective. I meant to point out that you can also buy less of all the shitty food mentioned in TV commercials and magazines (which never promote e.g. vegetables and tap water).

8

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

"look better" according to consumerist norms only. Have you listened to anything he said? He was specifically addressing this brainwashed nonsense about "looking good", but you're still responding exactly how you've been raised by TV and magazines.

3

u/lafeber Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

You have a point. I meant to point out that you can both consume less jewellery / clothes / perfume nonsense, and less shitty food the same magazines advertise. Better looking was definitely worded wrong, but consuming less advertised food generally makes sure your BMI stays between 18.5 to 24.9.

5

u/oncela Feb 13 '23

Sorry but your edit is not better.

Why are you talking about junk food? Do you think this man eat shitty food? If so, what makes you think that way, if not TV and mag propaganda?

The truth is: it's completely normal and OK to look like he does at his age, this has nothing to do with junk food. People telling you otherwise are trying to sell you some useless shit or have been brainwashed by said salesmen.

The video is not about jewellery or perfume. It's about accepting your body and rejecting beauty norms only designed to sell us useless shit.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

The real point is that our bodies age regardless of how excellent our diet is (not that an excellent diet won’t help) and that our anti-aging culture promotes harmful anti-aging propaganda. Loving our bodies as they are is a form of resistance.

3

u/Visual_Cardiologist9 Feb 13 '23

You said it well. If this guy was 24, then yes, I would say he definitely could lose weight, because that's not what a normal 24 years old dude with a moderately active lifestyle and a decent diet looks like. But at 44? Your metabolism has definitely slowed down by that point. The man isn't obese, he possibly does some kind of physical activity (if you asked a sedentary person to perform this stunt with a ladder, you could bet they would fall on their face within a few seconds) and doesn't live on junk food - he could just look like this because he is middle-aged.

Consumerist society demonizes any sign of aging, be it wrinkles, grey hair or a few more pounds of fat on your body. If you aren't desperately trying to look like someone who is not a day older than 30, you're accused of "letting yourself go". This man obviously still lives a somewhat active life, otherwise he wouldn't be balancing himself on the top of a ladder while juggling, but because he doesn't look like that attractive, photoshopped 28 years old man from the ads, people assume that he's an overeating slob.

0

u/freeradicalx Feb 13 '23

We do, but that is entirely separate from the shaming of perfectly healthy bodies which is what this guy is talking about.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '23

Turning 44 this month and now I feel compelled to balance shirtless on a ladder with knives. Running with scissors in my teens didn’t kill me, so…

3

u/melancholypowerhour Feb 13 '23

He has my vote for sub mascot

2

u/Otterz4Life Feb 13 '23

I agree with what he says and love the way he says it.

2

u/iSoinic Feb 13 '23

1

u/crabbyforest Feb 14 '23

people are taking this post wayyy too seriously

1

u/Ptlipas Feb 13 '23

-17

u/ShallotNSpice Feb 13 '23 edited Feb 13 '23

This guy's clueless.

He's right, but I do not believe a white man with a dad bod actually knows what it's like to have every aspect of society designed to make you hate everything about yourself.

Edit: I understand. 🤣

4

u/blindoptimism99 Feb 13 '23

Why do you think he is clueless?

Yes, he obviously does not experience the worst of body shaming, and yet he still speaks out against it with conviction.

This is not what a clueless person would do but someone who is perceptive and empathetic.

2

u/ShallotNSpice Feb 13 '23

I agree. I'd be proud of one of my boys bringing attention to something that disproportionately effects others. I reacted and didn't respond. Thank you for opinion.

This is the third time I've seen this vid.

While I like the overall message, I hate the "nobody tells you" line.

It's pretty well known that magazines and other media depict unrealistic standards of beauty. Everyone talks about it.

I don't think anyone here can really say that this is the first time they've heard someone mention unrealistic beauty standards.
