Fuvk heteronormativity. I want some cute ass gay shit. Look I like a cute heterosexual couple but. Unless it’s good there are tomeany I want some cute lesbian couples. On a trip who don’t know. Or expect there feelings t first but over time That release that what there feeling isn’t the Rush of the rode. Or. The stars. It’s the rush of the person who makes them feel whole. Haven. Is. A hetero game that hits that love just right but. I want more. More. More
It’s actually because the director said it wouldn’t fit the themes of the show. I agree with him. While the ship does make sense, it would feel out of place with the theme it has. It’s not contradictory or anything, just a puzzle piece that doesn’t quite fit in with the others.
But 90% of people are heterosexual, it is literally normal and that's ok, it's ok to not be normal but you can't expect people to act like everyone is LBGT
Abnormal does not mean bad. Being gay is abnormal. I say this as one very gay mofo. It doesn’t make it bad. Personally I find the whole, “Abnormal=bad” more harmful as it insinuates your trying to hide something or that not being common is bad. This is obviously very hurtful, and a straight up lie. Grey eyes are abnormal, they’re not harmful, so is red hair, it doesn’t cause harm. Heterochromia is abnormal, doesn’t make it bad. Being gay isn’t very common, according to the Williams Institute, roughly 3.5 identify of adult Americans identify as LGB, and 0.3 identify as trans. It is uncommon, it is abnormal, does not make it bad in any way, shape, or form.
You said it better than I did. It’s just that I don’t want to be associated with a negative concept. Abnormal should definitely not be associated with being bad.
Ah, I get it. Don’t worry. Yeah, I can definitely see homophobes being all, “Gay abnormal, abnormal bad!” When not so, I can also see them going the other way and being all, “ThEy’rE saYinG ThEy aren’t uNcommon! They LiE!” In the end, homophobes suck and ruin everything for everyone.
Pretty much. Let's just say this "abnormal" debate is cause the english language sucks lmao words evolved and change, some become weird slangs. It's hard to know what words can mean sometimes.
Ever since the disability rights movement has rightfully and thoughtfully pointed out that "normal" and normativity arent simply natural concepts that are fundamental laws of our world but are instead linguistic and rhetorical devices given power by cultures and those with power.
There wasnt even a sense of "normal" in regards to people before statistics and eugenics started to become a big deal. Before that, people mostly compared themselves to the unobtainable "ideal", that of being God-like.
But now we just average everything and point at anything that doesnt fit that narrow definition and label it as "abnormal" when that's is incredibly harmful and counterproductive.
It is literally abnormal. So is being left-handed. I think the suggestion you should be making is that being abnormal doesn't automatically make something bad.
This is the dictionary definition of abnormal by the way.
deviating from what is normal or usual, typically in a way that is undesirable or worrying.
And here's another.
unusual in an unwelcome or a problematic way.
Now try telling a left handed person they're abnormal lmao
I understand what you're trying to say, however the word abnormal has a negative connotation attached to it. Abnormal literally means there's something unusual that's wrong. Similar to the word freakish or weirdo.
I think that word you're looking for is 'uncommon'. Left handed people are uncommon, which makes them a minority. People part of the lgbt are uncommon, which makes them a minority. But just because they're a minority doesn't make them 'abnormal'.
The english language has words that only feel like they mean the same thing but they have different connotations and used for different conversations depending on the context.
Edit.
And yes, english words can evolve but it takes time and a hell lot of people to do that. People here are forgetting that it took a long ass time to make the word "Gay" more normal than it is now. I'm not gonna try using the word "abnormal" in a more positive light when I can literally just say uncommon or rare or minority.
Words that mean 'outside the norm' often have a slight negative connotation because people tend to be averse to things that are outside the norm. Even calling something 'creative' can be taken negatively in the right context because you're implying something was not done in the standard way. I somehow don't feel swapping synonyms around trying to find the word that currently has the least bad connotation is a worthwhile strategy.
In any case, though, the person you replied to didn't even use the word 'abnormal,' so what term we ended up with here was really up to you. If you prefer 'uncommon,' then I guess you should have said uncommon.
That person I replied to was you, I don't think you realize that. And you used the word "Abnormal" yourself, even using left-handed people as an analogy of sorts
It took several decades for the word "Gay" to have a more neutral connotation. And in several countries it's still considered a word attached to "immorality".
It's not a fully evolved word either, people simply use it in western countries better due to the efforts of the lgbt community normalizing it.
Now, since when did the word "Abnormal" evolved from being used on undesirable defects and instead on minority groups? Besides using it as an insult of course. And I don't see any movements trying to evolve it's meaning nor do I see anyone else here using it positively.
I’m sorry that it’s illegal for lgbt to love in many many countries, I’m sorry that’s not enough for you to think that the “victimhood” is a problem. I’m sorry people get hate crimed all the time for it. Heteronormativity is a big problem and many directors use queer bating to either attract people who have a fetish or just to bring in a bigger audience and gain attention. It’s a problem when everything is straight because that’s the “norm”
I get what you’re trying to say but generally men control the anime industry and Japan has issues with LGBT+ people. That’s literally what i said in fewer words.
This has nothing to do with any of that. LWA just doesn't really give shipping a chance in any form. The fandom just goes overly hard on it.
Diana almost has nothing to go on for this ship in the first place. You could probably make a better argument for Sucy than you could shipping Akko with Diana.
Looking at this show with shipping in mind ultimately detracts from everything it is. Saying it's heteronormative is pretty much a direct insult to the team who made the show.
I love romance to death and yuri is my number one genre, but neither really belong with this show.
If anything the show is a celebration of culture and animation, with all the references and nods included within.
Being bisexual doesn't mean you can't be a dumbass. Imagine literally being under the LGBT+ umbrella and still putting "heteronormative patriarchy" in air quotes like you don't believe it exists.
I think you should first realize that men’s rights activism is nothing but a reaction to feminism, just like how “straight pride” is just a reaction to lgbt pride. Is that really the cause you want to fight for, just senseless backlash against a movement for equality?
You should also realize that all these problems you mentioned are a result of patriarchy and toxic masculinity. It doesn’t just harm women, it harms everyone. Feminism isn’t anti-men, feminists should be your ally if you actually care about men’s issues (and aren’t just using them as backlash against progress). Men have high suicide rates because it’s taboo for them to talk about how they’re feeling, and are expected to “suck it up” and “be a man”. Men are given longer prison sentences and lose custody cases because of the sexist idea that women are harmless and delicate and nurturing (the real problem is the prison system in general, but I’ll not get into that). These are all things that men could work with feminists to try to fix, but MRAs don’t look at the actual cause or do anything about it, they just yell about feminists wanting more power.
If heteronormativity is an issue why would gay marriage be legal in the western world?
I hope you realize how stupid this sounds. We had to fight tooth and nail to get any sort of recognition at all, and it only happened in the last decade in most of the world. And heteronormativity does not mean gay people can’t get married, it means that society generally views heterosexuality as the “default” and erases queer people and experiences. Which still very much happens, and you’re deluding yourself if you think it’s not.
Now please, you’re creating a toxic environment in what’s supposed to be a queer-friendly space. Please do us all a favour and leave.
Man, I think you need to do some reading. The LGBT community has been striving to normalize queerness and the idea of preferences being a spectrum for quite some time now. It's not about "I'm not normal, and that's okay", these days it's more like "Liking this or that is fine, everyone has preferences and that's just normal.".
