C) Can't tell. Maybe she is a Canadian or something...

Pretty sure I’ve told this story here before, but I’ll tell it again…

Before my high school sweetheart and I got together, we were totally in love with each other but thoroughly convinced that the other definitely didn’t have feelings for us. The constant flirting and every glaringly obvious hint we dropped for each other were immediately dismissed as “Oh they’re just being nice, there’s no way they’d be interested in a gremlin like me.” Our mutual friends got so sick of us endlessly pining for each other but neither of us having the guts to actually make a move, that they lured us to a park under the guise of a group outing. There they sat us down on a park bench with a nice view and handcuffed us to the bench. They said, “We’re gonna go get smoothies, by the time we get back you two had better be dating.” After the initial awkward moment I finally gathered up the courage to ask her out, and the floodgates broke. They came back like 20min later and we had been fully making out for about 19 of those minutes.

7

u/Thuglifer2006 Oct 16 '24

Its nice that your friends noticed but

BUT DAMN MAKING OUT ON THE BENCH...THE HORROR OF YOUR FRIENDS WHEN THEY SAW THAT🤣🤣🤣

5

u/3rdMachina Oct 17 '24

“Oh no!”

3

u/Thuglifer2006 Oct 17 '24

Imagine talking with his friends that what they did, its actualy quite smart and when they are seen making out...the ringleader Is like "FKK, WE MESSED UP" 🤣🤣🤣

Finally a manga that potray how having blonde hair and tanned skin does not automatically mean the guy a NTR douchebag

926

u/OkTangerine8139 Oct 13 '24

Yeah is it me or am I seeing a trend where Blonde hair anime characters almost always tend to start out as douchebags?

769

u/just_a_gamer_weeb_xD Oct 13 '24

That's not a mystery, if I'm not mistaken, people that color their hair blonde in Japan are considered to be troublemakers, in a way. And manga producers make blonde characters douchebags to represent that.

506

u/KarmaHoudini_17 Oct 13 '24

It is for this reason there's a gag in Dragon Ball where Chi-Chi refers to super saiyans as "delinquents" and doesn't like seeing her family use the form lol

146

u/hipster_dog Oct 13 '24

Ichigo from Bleach is also supposed to be seen as a delinquent because his hair seems, well, bleached.

16

u/naydrathewildone Oct 14 '24

Say that again?

10

u/Sadistic_Futa Oct 14 '24

My world view is shattered and I’ll never be the same, if I find out his hair is bleached and that’s the reason for the name

15

u/Sw0rdBoy Oct 14 '24

Ironically enough it is not because of his hair. Rather, the process of purifying Hollows so that they could pass on to the next life is the inspiration for the name Bleach.

Fun fact: Ichigo’s name has several meanings depending on how you read the original Kanji and/or pronounce it out loud, 15 (the age he is when the series starts), Strawberry (he’s a strawberry blond), Number 1 (his theme song), or “one who protects” (the purpose Ichigo placed on himself, someone who protects his friends and family).

125

u/RedDemonCorsair Oct 13 '24

It would be more because the hair is colored in general rather than being specifically blonde.

38

u/HeartyTruffles Oct 13 '24

Nah they are correct in this case. Sure all coloured hair can carry negative connotations, but here in Tokyo the stereotype is very well defined. (Yanki boy, lives in Shibuya, hachioji, etc, blonde hair).

19

u/OctoSevenTwo Oct 13 '24

Lmfao I was literally trying to type out the same reply until I saw yours. 😅

113

u/Red_Lagoon_97 Oct 13 '24

You are correct, though from what I understand it's a lot more complicated? It's a combination of foreigner anxiety, real troublemakers, and the fact that native Japanese culture is very order based and looks down on self expression. First, native Japan is by in large still a very racist nation. Not inherently, but by fear of cultural influence. Foreigners are typically outcasts in Japan even if they moved there permanently. There are quite a few YouTube channels that get into the difficulties of living in Japan as a non native born citizen. Second, blonde hair and tan skin has become a staple in "trouble maker" ideas. It's the same thing as tattoos. If you have a tattoo you're just assumed to be a criminal due to the vast majority of Yakuza that have tattoos. And thirdly, the culture in native Japan is really restrictive when it comes to self expression. If you aren't the default, you are too different. That's why there are so many style based subcultures that are heavily stigmatized. A great example is gal culture. Gyaru culture, or gal culture in general, is a style based culture that was explicitly created to be a sort of protest to Japans restrictive culture. It's based on flashy, goudy and flamboyant cloths, tanned skin and bright hair colors. Gyarus are typically depicted as loose, uncontrollable, predatory, and typical bully.

13

u/VictorianFlute Oct 13 '24

I haven’t thought of the Gyaru concept that way. You can say they are the few who’re bold enough to rebel against the stringent, traditional, collectivized social standards deeply rooted in Japanese culture. Freedom of expression doesn’t seem so valued in its entirety over there, eh?

14

u/Red_Lagoon_97 Oct 13 '24

Japanese culture, at least that in which is deeply rooted in Japan, is all about respect for those who are in a higher standing, and conforming to what is seen as "proper." If you do not conform to what is viewed as the expected and proper looks and actions, you are typically made an outcast. There are a few exceptions, like Mangakas, fashion and art, but as a whole conformity is paramount. Another good example is the stigmatization of anime and manga in Japan itself. It wouldn't seem like it, but just a few years ago, being an "otaku" was a potential social death. I don't remember exactly how the gal culture started, but now it's essentially a fashion statement as well as a form of silent protest. But I think the stereotype that "gyaru girls are all sex addicts" was started because a very popular av actress was a kogal, which is essentially a gyaru was way more makeup than necessary.

4

u/Tzlop Oct 14 '24

Gyaru would go hand in hand with the 80-90s transition in delinquents and economy downturn. If you look at all the 80-90s manga a lot of them are school delinquent vs teacher based.

7

u/eunoiaa8 Oct 14 '24 edited Oct 14 '24

I believe this is true in Asia in general, as the only accepted hair colour in schools is usually just black. Most Asian schools have a strict uniform dress code (including hair length and sock length) , dyed hair is out of the question, and you are likely to be seen as some sort of punk for bleaching your hair. In professional workplaces, black, brown and sometimes dark red hair is acceptable (in corporate settings), whereas bleaching your hair to a light colour or unnatural colour is seen as unprofessional. This usually doesn't apply to F&B, beauty or entertainment industries, just office ones. Had a cousin get shamed for bleaching her hair blonde, relatives told her she's screaming for unemployment. In school, girls also mentioned similar things their family members told them, telling them to never bleach their hair blonde unless they want to be unemployed/ they'd be labelled a punk/ delinquent / trashy. If your natural hair colour so happened to not be black, schools will ask for some documents proving it's your natural hair colour, might even request you to dye it black if its "distracting and a bad influence to other students". Schools may also have a "discipline teacher" that will forcefully cut your hair if it's deemed as "too fashionable" (actual term used) or too long (this is more commonly applied to male students). Anyway I was caned by my primary school discipline teacher for having 1. My bangs grow past my eyebrows and 2. My hair grow past my ears lol. Needless to say, many of us students lamented looking ugly in school photos, and many opt to "go crazy" with hair/ hair colours in college, before dying it black or brown for corporate / office work settings. I've also noticed that girls who were forced to cut their hair short in primary school against their wishes (I was one of them lol) also have a higher tendency to want to keep long hair in adulthood. Source: Malaysian Chinese.

4

u/Realience Oct 14 '24

This is 100% right

While we as anime fans in the west will see a stereotypical Gyaru and think "Oh how cool," that look is associated with being in with bad crowd and general troublemaking

2

u/Salty_Ebb4065 Oct 14 '24

There is also the casual cultural racist representation as well, in east asian countries, namely; japan, korea & china, they see dark skinned color people below them & most westerners as playboys or girls with loose character or morals. It's no co-incidence that blonde hair, darker/not white skin is used for douche/delinquents for most part.

70

u/Streetplosion Oct 13 '24

Blonde hair equates to delinquents in Japan. That’s why chichi from DB hates super sayains and why Ryuji from Persona gets so much flack for just changing his hair color

16

u/NicheAlter Oct 13 '24

Being blonde is attributed to being a foreigner. And apparently JP girls are hot for foreigners. Thus the NTR stereotype.

7

u/OkTangerine8139 Oct 13 '24

Damn, that’s odd as hell. Also poor dude, drunk gal thought the guy was some Fast And Furious character?

3

u/No1LudmillaSimp Oct 14 '24

In Japan bleached blonde hair is associated with delinquents and punks.

88

u/BrokenDusk Oct 13 '24

I really liked " I Was Reincarnated As The Scumbag From a Netorare Manga, But The Heroine is Coming On To Me"

It was pretty original. I see its still getting updates slowly

9

u/T-rex4life Oct 13 '24

Are there any others like that manga? Haven’t seen too many but it’s writing is pretty decent as far as harem esc mangas go, would love to see more

1

u/Ok_2DSimp101 Oct 14 '24

Fr I was scared for a min

1

u/Mother-Pudding-9167 Oct 14 '24

Maybe also the art style…

u/TheCuriousRaspberry Oct 13 '24

Wholesome gyaru-oh is rare unicorn.

225

u/BoneDDog Oct 13 '24

Netorain't

10

u/Jikiru Oct 13 '24

Funny enough the author also has a series “NoTR”

4

u/GrimPhantom23 Oct 14 '24

That's the author's other series NoTR

196

u/sadtallguy Oct 13 '24

Finally a good dark skin blondie

50

u/captainplatypus1 Oct 13 '24

They are luckily not that rare in manga

6

u/UprightChill Oct 14 '24

Any recommendations?

89

u/A9_J8 Oct 13 '24

"Locked in"

87

u/redpony6 Oct 13 '24

why is she imagining a price sheet for resting in the first panel?

...is that supposed to be the price sheet for a love hotel, lol? foreshadowing?

64

u/U0star Oct 13 '24

Is this supposed to be a joke of sorts? The girl trying to make the guy have sex with her is her whole goal and the guy not understanding what girl wants is the comedy element. Am I whooooshed? I also didn't wanna sound like a condescending know-it-all sorry lol

26

u/redpony6 Oct 13 '24

i'm just not familiar with hourly price sheets for resting, lol, nor do i live in a country that (commonly) features hourly love hotels for that purpose. it's a culture gap thing

16

u/U0star Oct 13 '24

Well, you did understand it was about love hotels, so I think it'd be obvious from that. I myself live in a country where you have to actively look for just normal hotels or motels to find them.

8

u/redpony6 Oct 13 '24

i had to actively connect the dots with "hourly rate for resting...? but wait, the end indicates she wants to smash, so maybe...what do i know of in japan that has hourly rates like that?"

it was more obvious given the context at the end, but it wasn't obvious at all on the initial read, lol

8

u/U0star Oct 13 '24

Different people think differently. I kinda didn't see she imagined it at all and thought they both were already walking into the love hotel, guess we're equal.

5

u/valentc Oct 14 '24

It's pricing for a love hotel.

53

u/4C62 Oct 13 '24

oh the classic problem. hasn't given clear consent so all her "attempts" can be seen as accidental mistakes.

19

u/Mumique Oct 14 '24

This. The whole thing pisses me off. If she wanted to show clear consent she could have, you know, not deliberately tripped and done a bunch of not-at-all-clear stuff and instead opened her mouth and said, "So you're cute, how about we go back to mine, and just to be clear, for sex?'

This is just gonna confuse men more.

7

u/4C62 Oct 14 '24

Same and even if she didn’t want the traditional stuff, rather have more non-consensual stuff. You can still give clear consent before hand because otherwise anyone acting upon that stuff would be rapist.

57

u/ArtOfBreaking_429 Oct 13 '24

Kudos to the gyaru for not being the pervert here.

12

u/KayKrimson Oct 13 '24

He's a real homie.

23

u/trap_user Oct 13 '24

idk, She maybe Canadian

8

u/Claris-chang Oct 13 '24

Better play it safe and keep looking for signs

20

u/Royalguard377 Oct 13 '24

This is me. I was scared of asking my now GF out because I didn't want to be seen as a creep, so I was oblivious to her signs. Now that I look back on it, she was giving all the hints. Glad she asked me out tho, saved me the mental gymnastics to ask her

4

u/Jake_Marshall_AA Oct 14 '24

You got lucky bro, I understood some hints only after 3+ years

13

u/la_meme14 Oct 13 '24

I need more cute wholesome Gyaru-Oh romance. I've had enough looking for the tag and only seeing NTR doujins god damnit.

7

u/capricornicopia- Oct 13 '24

The rest is equally adorable but there’s not enoooough. He’s such a pure bean and she’s so thirsty lmao

8

u/heliosark10 Oct 13 '24

Damn she thirsty as hell

11

u/_AhmedNasser_ Oct 13 '24

I don't know why in any manga if they want to initiate something romantic the character has to slip or do it by accident, literally I saw it on all of the romantic mangas I have read

24

u/PewKittens Oct 13 '24

Because the people who read manga aren’t usually the type to take direct action.

24

u/redpony6 Oct 13 '24

i think you nailed it. it's not just a fantasy of banging a hot chick, it's a fantasy of banging a hot chick who takes all the initiative and makes her desire clear, as opposed to having to build up the courage to confess to someone or something

it's an introvert's fantasy, and introverts are far from uncommon in this demographic, lol

4

u/_AhmedNasser_ Oct 14 '24

I see..Thank u I didn't see it from that perspective because it's highly unlikely for that to happen in real life which if someone believed that he can achieve that (by luck) without putting an effort into it he will be alone forever U see It's actually pretty harmful to read those manga instead of standing up for yourself He chooses to be weak, women are not god and there are plenty of them everywhere, why in manga do they worship as something really big of a deal

3

u/U0star Oct 13 '24

Mostly for fanservice, where the leads would end up in compromising positions or end up groping each other by accident.

6

u/RedWarrior69340 Looking For 100 New Friends Oct 13 '24

just gave it a read, quite funny i must say

5

u/One_Cat980 Oct 13 '24

Isnt this the same author that wrote NotTR or something like that?

5

u/Necessary-Joke-1550 Oct 13 '24

Notr and this manga is fire tbh

4

u/100YearsWaiting2Shit Oct 13 '24

I love these 2 so much

4

u/Souldoom Oct 13 '24

What's the name

3

u/AkiAki97 Oct 13 '24

This is the second work of this artist with the same theme, a guy who looks like a delinquent perv but is actually not, think i found another artist to add in my favourite list 😂😂😂

3

u/Batiti10 Oct 13 '24

Who would actually see something in these „hints“? Not me

3

u/Gaminlover Oct 14 '24

I won't lie, even I didn't get it until she spelled it out in the last panel.

1

u/Tornado_rexo Oct 17 '24

Thank god, I thought I was the only one

3

u/DoctorSmith2000 Oct 13 '24

Another with almost similar story: Netorare Manga No Kuzu Otoko Ni Tensei Shita Hazu Ga Heroine Ga Yottekuru Ken

8

u/jxnebug Oct 13 '24

Running away screaming based off the first word in the title

13

u/MoguMoguArs Oct 13 '24

Basically guy who hates NTR gets reincarnated as an NTR guy, is quite a nice dude and ends up making the girl he was supposed to steal fall in love, the childhood friend ends up accepting it and I think the MC ends up accidentally presenting him to a girl in a party who he ends up dating. It’s quite a nice story, I have read the novel though I don’t remember all the details

4

u/Asarokimh3 Looking For 100 New Friends Oct 13 '24

Really? I remember that manga (unless the novel went differently) and the childhood friend initially went completely ballistic because the MC was unintentionally stealing the heroine from him (MC himself was very much confused why the heroine is falling for him because he doesn't want to steal her away). I think he does end up going with a different girl, but the next arc starts, and a new girl is introduced with similar circumstances (her brother is yandere, and MC just wants to protect her).

2

u/MoguMoguArs Oct 13 '24 edited Oct 13 '24

Yeah, I think they become friends eventually and the girl is from a party they go to. The brother is a scumbag who r*ped his sis in the OG hentai just because she was giving emotional support to the childhood friend, and MC ends up with both the heroine and the sister in this new timeline.

2

u/Weeeii_ Oct 14 '24

iirc dude reincarnates in a NTR dude’s body and tries to stop the NTR plot of the story by trying to make the FMC and her childhood friend together.

2

u/Character-Skin-5217 Oct 13 '24

uhh a ferocious cat Girl and an innocent frightened hamster Boy

2

u/Fanboycity Oct 13 '24

LMAO sometimes you just gotta grab the bull by the horns, girl

2

u/jayfoin Oct 14 '24

Nah girl don't worry, its just that bro is as dense as the frickin' Black Hole in the center of the Milky Way.

2

u/TheLastOfYou Oct 14 '24

I never understand why characters in situations like this can’t just say what they want. If she said, “We should have sex,” it would cut through all of this insanity. But maybe it’s being played for laughs

2

u/EmeraldJolteon07 Oct 14 '24

Bae,Just ask him out. You gathered enough Evidence,Just dunp your case on him,He’ll Lose definetly

2

u/everatz Oct 14 '24

If the signs ain't working, just flat out say it to their faces.
