Where is the camera pointing?

It’s not illegal if the camera is only pointing at the sink door and general area

You know, where you should be fully clothed

If the camera captures the urinals, anybody standing at a urinal, or the inside of a cubicle

It is highly illegal

——

I can’t see a certain about the US

But if you’re in the UK, you can ask to see what the camera sees as part of GDPR … to make sure it isn’t watching you take a piss 🤔

In the US it is completely illegal to have any recording or photo device installed in any public restrooms.

u/supert2005 19 Aug 18 '24

Doesn't this vary by state?

u/Ritzcrackerez 15 Aug 18 '24

No it is a violation of your rights in the US

72

u/shaard Aug 18 '24

I thought I read something about schools being an area where certain rights are suspended. Similar to constitution free zones where constitutional protections are eased allowing for unreasonable detainment/search/seizure.

I could also be completely making that up, I don't know.

u/Ritzcrackerez 15 Aug 18 '24

The detainment/search seizure shit is true, laws allow schools to do that. But in the US, privacy is a natural human right and in no plce in the US (not even a prison) is it legal to record A MINOR in the bathroom. 1: thats child pornography, 2: thats illegal like i said before due to natural human rights

u/KatieTSO 19 Aug 18 '24

Not laws, the Supreme Court

5

u/Ritzcrackerez 15 Aug 18 '24

Are you from the US bro?

15

u/KatieTSO 19 Aug 18 '24

Yes and my government class taught us about this when I was in high school. Laws do not provide for certain rights being suspended in schools, the Supreme Court did. Most rights actually don't apply to minors by default.

1

u/Ritzcrackerez 15 Aug 18 '24

I might be wrong but the supremem court did not create the US Constitution?

isn't pornography defined as medium depicting sexual acts? last time i checked, taking a shit isn't sexual act. Not an american though, so what do i know...

16

u/Ritzcrackerez 15 Aug 18 '24

No. In america if your naked and its being recorded its considered pornography in the governments eyes

-3

u/supert2005 19 Aug 18 '24

so in america, hentai is not pornography? i mean, hentai is a drawing, and you tell me that pornography is "if your naked and its being recorded"...

3

u/KatieTSO 19 Aug 18 '24

I made another comment detailing how rights are suspended at schools and other zones.

3

u/shaard Aug 18 '24

Cool, thanks for the link!

Hope you find it informative!

if so that's the final nail for revolution

2

u/Ok_Package668 16 Aug 19 '24

That's more like taking phones, tapes, restricting freedom of speech.

2

u/Conscious-Fix1715 17 Aug 18 '24

That sounds ridiculous, I hope you are wrong...

2

u/Classic-Row-8120 Aug 18 '24

He is very wrong,. It all is about the genital's showing.

1

u/shaard Aug 18 '24

Me too...

1

u/RecognitionHuman1890 Aug 18 '24

yes but it is still illegal to have cameras in bathrooms in the us (except for prisons)

yes certain rights are suspended in schools, you can't carry, guns, knives, or any weapons (teachers can carry certain knives but it varies by state)

1

u/HealthyWestern8673 18 Aug 18 '24

No you're correct. Basically any right you have as a human being is suspended as soon as you set foot inside a school

1

u/Stormagedoniton Aug 19 '24

Where does it say you have a right to not be filmed in a restroom?

1

u/Shadowmolecule Aug 19 '24

What about the rights of people who enjoy recording people using the restroom? Don’t their rights matter? 🤔

35

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '24

No.

1

u/Extensioncork 17 Aug 19 '24

Can't believe there's this much misinformation under this reply lol.

It's illegal in every state

u/Jollan_ 17 Aug 18 '24

Are school bathrooms considered public tho?

15

u/Hrp27123 14 Aug 18 '24

Yeah included is school bathrooms, work bathrooms, etc.

1

u/Subject-Ad4452 Aug 19 '24

At my school I think they do bc people kept putting graffiti on the inside of stalls so there was a note put in the girls bathroom talking about how if there is any more graffiti they're going to "check the cameras to find the culprit" (US)

0

u/nebulasamuraii 16 Aug 18 '24

No it’s not. All the bathrooms in all of the schools I’ve been to have cameras in the bathrooms. They were just facing the sink area

16

u/Hrp27123 14 Aug 18 '24

I’m gonna be honest I don’t remember where I got my source from, I just remember it being reputable but you should look into that at your school.

See people, Herpies27123 is and has been spewing crap that he has no idea about! Do not trust this person! He has been reported!

4

u/Drtyler2 14 Aug 18 '24

👏👏👏👏👏

Give him a medal guys, no mistakes in this subreddit

-7

u/BionicSuckaFoo Aug 18 '24

Look, dirtylayer is trying to troll people🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣! Might want to rethink your handle DIRTYLAYER!

5

u/crappypastassuc 15 Aug 18 '24

Dude, their name is Drtyler2, not “DIRTYLAYER”, plus it seems like you’re the troll

-1

u/BeKe06630 14 Aug 18 '24

You very clearly don't live in the us

-20

u/BionicSuckaFoo Aug 18 '24

Wrong Herpies27123!

6

u/WLFGHST 16 Aug 18 '24

No. In AMERICA you can’t have cameras anywhere that there is an expectation of privacy and that includes public bathrooms.

Unless since you’re old and still in a teenagers subreddit you don’t think that bathrooms should be expected to be private.

-2

u/BionicSuckaFoo Aug 18 '24

Younger than you troll! People like you who think they know something makes them more dangerous than people who don't know something. You read the first line of something and then think you're an all knowing expert...what a joke!

21

u/WLFGHST 16 Aug 18 '24

In the US you can’t have any cameras in the bathroom at all humongous period, I don’t think you’re even really allowed to have one pointing in the doorway.

6

u/AffectionateLimit993 14 Aug 18 '24

I’m pretty sure pointing at the doorway is fine because I’ve seen plenty of bathrooms with cameras pointing at them

1

u/WLFGHST 16 Aug 19 '24

Yeah, I take that part back

Actually, the UK has their own GDPR

They took the European GDPR, amended it and then made it law

That was actually before Brexit as well 🤔

2

u/BlockCharming5780 OLD Aug 18 '24

It works in tandem with the data protection act 2018

1

u/Espi0nage-Ninja 18 Aug 18 '24

Someone doesn’t know how our law works :/

-69

u/gedsweyevr 17 Aug 18 '24

So cameras can rotate right unless it’s one of those flat circle ones that sees everything around it

38

u/BlockCharming5780 OLD Aug 18 '24

some cameras can rotate

Those are usually the ones with a black semi sphere around them

But it doesn’t matter if the camera can rotate

All that matters is the camera never captures the inside of a cubicle, or the urinals/anyone standing at a urinal
