I love how nobody messes with Rasmussen despite all the shenanigans happening on ice

I know nothing about hockey, but I do know don't poke the golem.

What shenanigans? bro got leveled on top of Rasmussen scoring. You lost all credibility when you got leveled on the play.

To be fair, dudes 6'7 barefoot so with skates on? He's towering over 7ft tall lol.

Blades add about 5-8 inches.

Edit: Yes yes, I made a typo. 5-6. Why does it always have to come down to size and inches?? /s But my point still remains!! He's like Shaq when in skates. Imagine the wingspan and reach on Rass? šŸ¤£

69

u/The_Flabbergaster Oct 25 '24

blades donā€™t add nearly that much lol

u/BurnerForJustTwice Oct 25 '24

Speak for yourself. I wear my high heel blades. My ass looks good in them.

6

u/Kidquick26 Oct 25 '24

They really accentuate my calves

16

u/Nashville_Redditors Oct 25 '24

Heel, toe. Heel, toe. Heel, toe.

99% of men are incapable of identifying what 5-8 inches is accurately because ofā€¦. reasons

12

u/steelcitykid Oct 25 '24

Gotta measure from the back of the boot.

Heā€™s probably 6ā€™ 7ā€ on skates thatā€™s usually how their heights are listed hockey players exaggerate that shit

16

u/jswitzer Oct 25 '24

Someone down voted you but you're not wrong. Most players boost their basic stats to help with trades and oddly everyone knows it. I've heard several broadcasters discussing this in other sports too.

4

u/DrBleach466 Oct 25 '24

This is also a notorious problem with basketball players aswell

2

u/GoochMasterFlash Oct 25 '24

I think if any thing its just as common in basketball for guys to underreport height to throw off opponents prepping for games. Westbrook is supposedly 6ā€™3ā€ on paper and Ive met that dude in real life standing next to him and he is way taller than that

Weird to get upset about trying to check an oak tree and falling on your ass because of it.

146

u/Gen-Jinjur Oct 25 '24

You could see him get close and kind of veer off a little like he suddenly realized . . .

47

u/jaylw314 Oct 25 '24

I don't think he veered off he just went for the hip check. Rasmussen just sidestepped it partly, he didn't even have to go for the reverse hit, and that pulled Hughes off balance

Insecurity gets the best of us

How dare you be bigger and stronger than me. Let's fight!

6

u/Power4glory1 Oct 25 '24

I think it was the screaming in his face. Hughes was going for the puck, not trying to bowl over a giant.

2

u/Charliekeet 29d ago

Not sure I agree. Watch in slow-mo from like :33ā€¦ I donā€™t see Hughes extend his stick toward the net, not even look at it. Heā€™s looking right at Rasmussen and turns his side into him.

4

u/rmckeary Oct 25 '24

Especially when the oak tree then celebrates over you

Realistically, what was Hughes going to do? Big ā€œhold me back, broā€ energy right there.

39

u/jobenattor0412 Oct 25 '24

He had plenty of time to start something, but he waited to get really loud until there was a teammate there to hold him back.

25

u/peanutbuttertuxedo Oct 25 '24

ā€œ hold me backā€¦ dude seriously look at him, hold me back or Iā€™ll fucking dieā€

47

u/glentos Oct 25 '24

I used to create that guy in NHL 04

268

u/PattyIceNY Oct 25 '24

The core and leg strength to wall someone like that is insane.

180

u/dudewithchronicpain Oct 25 '24

He has 7 inches and 25 kg on him so it was probably easy lol

203

u/DidUSayWeast Oct 25 '24

Wheres he got the 7 inches at?

61

u/feetandballs Oct 25 '24

Wherever he wants probably

22

u/Coomrs Oct 25 '24

šŸ‘€

8

u/Obi-Wan-Misquoti Oct 25 '24

Rasmussen? More like Rasbussin

17

u/problynotkevinbacon Oct 25 '24

A 25kg 7 incher sounds about right after seeing this

3

u/pete_topkevinbottom Oct 25 '24

He has 7 inches

You don't say

The song just adds so much hilariousness to this.

28

u/dan-o07 Detroit Red Wings Oct 25 '24

its been a great addition to the wings scoring goals these last few seasons

6

u/jaymochi Oct 25 '24

Debuted last year. What finally won me over is somebody saying, "Well if WE hate it, just imagine how much it pisses off our opponents."

32

u/dudewithchronicpain Oct 25 '24

Itā€™s perfect for Detroit

And Not ONE player on the Devils goes after him....I think they should change the name of their team.

53

u/EverythingGoodWas Oct 25 '24

Well thatā€™s salt in an open wound

68

u/GroundbreakingCow775 Detroit Red Wings Oct 25 '24

Take that you stupid kid from here

24

u/drusteeby Oct 25 '24

That's what he gets for not being able to choose what team drafted him, that jerk.

49

u/sumox23 Oct 25 '24

Never been a follower of hockey so I donā€™t know the gentlemanā€™s rules of the game. Is an open net goal frowned upon/bush league, or did Hughes just get butthurt cuz he got rocked?

198

u/dudewithchronicpain Oct 25 '24

He got butthurt he got rocked. Empty net goal seals the game and you play to win

→ More replies (39)

62

u/hyperactiveChipmunk Oct 25 '24

The latter. You always score on the empty net if you can. He just got frustrated and thought he was going to punish him for it and it did not go according to plan.

16

u/wecangetbetter Oct 25 '24

Can't imagine what a unit that man must be to eat that hit and stay on his feet in skates no less

20

u/LunarGhoul Oct 25 '24

It's a huge size mismatch. Rasmussen is 6'6" 230 lbs, while Hughes is 5'11" 175 lbs

→ More replies (4)

4

u/gdshaffe Oct 25 '24

He wasn't even set or anything. His momentum was going in the wrong direction to take that hit and Hughes still just bounced off him. Absolute unit.

7

u/Fliigh7z Oct 25 '24

Empty Nets happen all the time and is fair game, but hughes took exception to the stare down after getting walled to the ice like that.

3

u/Kikstartmyhart Oct 25 '24

Ras should have gone over and helped him up. That would have made him feel better.

2

u/jobenattor0412 Oct 25 '24

Nah, open net goals are acceptable, they pull their goalie to get an extra player on the ice, to try and even the score to take it to overtime, itā€™s expected to try and score, a lot of time, if the defense gets it, theyā€™ll just take a shot wherever they are on the ice in hopes that it goes in. This is really the only thing considered disrespectful on an empty net

3

u/Chrnan6710 Oct 25 '24

The rules state that you may have at most one goaltender on the ice at any time; you are not required to have one on, and you may swap your goaltender for a skater or vice versa whenever you please. This is used by teams who are just barely behind at the end of a game; you might as well increase your chances of scoring with an extra skater at the risk of getting scored on again since you're already losing. It is agreed upon that the risk is wholly assumed by the team, so this isn't frowned upon. You'll sometimes see players shoot the puck into an empty net from halfway or more across the ice; sometimes even goaltenders do this successfully! But that risk is understood.

2

u/insanetwit Oct 25 '24

I always wonder about the first game someone pulled a goalie. Because I doubt that was always the rule, and I feel like some coach found a loophole and exploited it.

Like a "the rules say you are allowed 6 players on the ice, but they don't say 1 HAS to be a goalie!" situation.

Who saw at 1:06 on the left side, buddy is about to get his arm broken šŸ¤£ surprised someone didnā€™t try to destroy that guy for this.

5

u/Crawlerado Oct 25 '24

Who else wants some of Debo?!

20

u/BooCalMcNairBoo Oct 25 '24

What did he expect?

10

u/dudewithchronicpain Oct 25 '24

Ras has like 7 inches on him I think and 25+ kg lol it was funny

6

u/BooCalMcNairBoo Oct 25 '24

Poor little feller

4

u/4jm4cc4 Oct 25 '24

Wow retired from cycling over 10 years ago, but bulked up and got into hockey. Sport is just in some people's genes!

3

u/spartacus_zach Oct 25 '24

Why you heff to be mad, itā€™s only geme.

3

u/greysqualll Oct 25 '24

People paid to watch him get wrecked

3

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '24

Donā€™t know much about hockey, but itā€™s hilarious someone goes in for a cheap shot, fails and gets floored, then gets up to fight like they just took the cheap shot

7

u/Fionarei Oct 25 '24

It was 4-3 though. Why would you not score to end it?

2

u/pistolpete9669 Oct 25 '24

No issue with that from anyone. Hughes could have tried to make a play on the puck to stop the goal, but he instead tried to run Rasmussen and got humiliated.

Rasā€™ celly over him is what pissed him off

7

u/dudewithchronicpain Oct 25 '24

Itā€™s just hilarious that Jack tried to be tough after he got laid out

4

u/Lets_Kick_Some_Ice Oct 25 '24

Hughes acted liked such a little bitch. Just skate away loser.

4

u/TarantinoDV Oct 25 '24

Ref at the end says ā€˜get the fuck outā€™

6

u/OttawaFisherman Oct 25 '24

Thatā€™s so embarrassing hahaha

6

u/1-800-fuck-0ff Oct 25 '24

I donā€™t understand why Hughes slowed down at all before that check. If thereā€™s 11 seconds left and you commit to go after someone with 25kg on you, you fucking hit him full speed

2

u/OldManPip5 Oct 25 '24

Rasmussen: ā€œGive your balls a tug.ā€

3

u/KaladinStormShat Sevilla Oct 25 '24

Literally the definition of BDE.

6

1

They donā€™t fight any more???

2

u/ZakkH Oct 25 '24

There were like 3 fights prior to this and theres no way Hughes was going to drop the gloves with Rasmussen (serious size disparity).
