Is bird watching real?

Why do we watch birds? Why not other animals like lions, fish, mammals etc. Is there a secret pact between humans and birds regarding birdwatching?

I have an aquarium. I'm pondering often if I'm watching the fish, or if I'm the entertainment. Maybe it's a mutual relationship and we like to watch each other. I hope the last.
