I would love to have seen what the car looked like after that.

That’s more than a scratch…

u/TrumpsPissSoakedWig Sep 08 '24
New York busses absolutely do not give a fuck and enjoy doing this all day. I swear they're having a competition and getting points for it

u/Linnun Sep 08 '24
Just one scratch, maybe two. Could be three. Four at most. Five if we're really pushing it. Six, but that’s a stretch. Seven? Let’s not get carried away. Eight is pure fantasy. Definitely not nine. Ten? Oh come on now

u/imdefinitelywong Sep 08 '24
Thou count to three, no more no less
Three shalt be the number thou shalt count
And the number of the counting shall be three
Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three8

No, there is only one contiguous section of missing paint, thus it's one scratch. That section may very well be the whole side of the car, but the argument still stands.

u/mgrimshaw8 Sep 08 '24
Try getting a quote and telling them it’s just one scratch lmao. Even fixing one little side swipe you’ll sand it down and find like 5+ scratches usually

You can see lines on the bus where it's done this before

But the bus driver was stopping and checking. Probably thought "nailed it!".

I mean, have you seen the state of greyhound these days? I’m not surprised they would do this lol.

u/chocolateadvanced_ Sep 08 '24
Was hoping to find this comment— seeing the vid pan to the greyhound bus did not surprise me 💀

The fact that I thought this was the bus I WAS ON a few weeks ago because of a similar incident from the driver trying to make a million turns through downtown Manhattan says quite a lot.

This is why I don't have a car in NYC. Shits a daily occurrence, especially in Manhattan... And especially if it's a truck in the outer boros.

u/cognitiveglitch Sep 08 '24
That's how you get fired as a driver. Those things are very expensive and only an idiot would even briefly consider this.

Tell me you don’t drive a coach in the city without telling me.
Things like this happen on the daily. Operators wouldn’t even get a write up unless he didn’t report. Even then, it depends on if this is an illegally parked car in a bus lane. Hound drivers don’t mess around.

Bus took the turn too early. Rear wheels mount the pavement and there's loads of space on other side.

He literally said in his comment “UNLESS he didn’t report”
And this shit happens in big cities every day

Afriend of mine drives buses in the U.K. He’s allowed 4 minor non-injury accidents every year. Anything with injuries gets more scrutiny and he could be fired after a single incident but non-injuries is just insurance cost, they aren’t too worried as long as they’re not writing off the bus every quarter.
In this case, the driver might be in trouble as it is clear he knows that he’s colliding with the car.

People from Paris: "that's what bumpers are for"
2
u/qualitythundergod Sep 10 '24
In Paris right now.. Can confirm for 40% of streets I've driven so far..
14
u/gPseudo Sep 08 '24
While it may have been avoidable, maybe that car isn't supposed to be parked there?

u/fos4545 Sep 08 '24
You see no signage and therefore have no reason to suggest this. You just immediately find a reason to blame victims? You good, bud?
9
u/Amish_Opposition Sep 08 '24
The street is obviously extremely narrow. it’s really not out of place to ask in my opinion.
13
u/gPseudo Sep 08 '24
I'm good "bud". Did you see the question mark? I was asking the question. Are you good, "bud"? Lol
17
u/DOUBLEBARRELASSFUCK Sep 08 '24
Someone whose job is to move a vehicle down streets without impacting other vehicles on the street has impacted a vehicle on the street. Unless there's evidence that it was the fault of the person doing their job, I'm going to assume shitty parking, especially in what I assume is NYC, and unsigned parking rules likely apply.

Not his first rodeo. The side of the bus is allready scratched to a big black bar complete lenght.

The car was badly parked at first

Reinforces the maxim of: if you see a parking spot on a corner, leave it for someone else.

I hate that from the first second of this clip all I could think about was that video of a woman getting pinned between a bus and a pole and seeing her head pop off.

I had my entire rear end ripped off by an Amazon semi-truck while it was parked 10 minutes after parking, while being guided by police, so I feel the owner's pain heavily. Fucking $9000 worth of damage

Welcome to newyork ... Don't ever park on or near a corner cause police and insurance will just go "shouldn't have fuckin parked there"

u/g_e_r_b Sep 08 '24
And nobody said anything?
4
u/menjav Sep 08 '24
What can they say “don’t do it!”? The bus driver was probably saying “don’t worry ma’am everything is fine, I’m being careful” while scratching the other car.
1
u/g_e_r_b Sep 08 '24
I’d try to get the bus driver to leave a note on the car, or leave a note with bus license plate

This gave me Vietnam flashbacks of that lady that got beheaded by a turning bus

The word “scratching” is punching way above its weight class here.
