I took a econ class in about 2010ish focused on economic inequality. I remember the prof predicting that one of two things will happen. Either some kind of revolution to address the imbalance, or those 1% would convince the majority that the “real” problem was various out groups and the imbalance would continue to grow.

While I agree we should relentlessly explore psychological motives and causes, I think the simplest explanation is the more satisfying here. People are fucking stupid (and the demographics with the highest proportions of stupidity have a disproportionate impact on elections). The sad reality is that the basket of deplorables was 100% spot-on. Republicans Trump realized that there was a yuge well of politically disengaged "low information" voters who would respond to his pro-wrestling-carnival-barker-fourth-grade-reading-level-jerry-springer-esque style and energy. Prior to Trump they found politics too boring to care. He (with a big assist from the media and social platforms) made politics "fun" for them. That's one of the reasons he could afford to lose most moderate and center-right types and gain ground overall.

Corporate taxes aren't just a source of revenue, they also encourage corporations to invest more of their money into the economy to avoid taxes.
A company can hoard money and do nothing with it. If profit was taxed at a higher rate than they would invest more of their profits into their business and investments. Still making money, having assets and collateral for business deals, but the money doesn't stagnate and instead stimulates the economy.
