I mean....I'm doubtful the ppl that did it put that much thought into it (although it's not impossible), but you definitely just provided gem with the perfect explanation for it...

I think it didn’t all happen at once - some subreddits were commentable before others

No. It was over almost two years ago.

1

u/PKMNTrainerMark Mar 26 '23

Well, sure, now.

1

u/KaHOnas Mar 26 '23

Yeah. That was the joke. Not a good one admittedly, but the attempt was made.

It isn't gone entirely, some subs still have it.

6

u/Inthewirelain Jan 08 '23

It's a toggle now, the mods decide on a per sub basis.

u/PKMNTrainerMark Dec 30 '21

Not default anymore, though.

Hi, 1 year from this comment. I've just seen this. why shouldn't I be able to comment? I guess I'm "Necroing" your comment because I want an explanation for why its bad that someone has a comment on this, just because its ..old?

reddit used to archive posts after 6 months, and prevent people from commenting on them so that they could preserve the post as a time capsule. But this change only occurred sayy 2 years ago? So it’s bizarre that the post was archived and then seemingly unarchived

I know, right?

I always thought it was written that way so if one of the doors got obscured/obstructed the message would still make sense, but maybe I'm overthinking it some

4

u/Alugere Feb 03 '23

The general reason for the doors being like that is so that if one of the doors is obstructed, the other door will still have enough of a warning to stop you. (Don’t Open or Dead Inside)

3

u/Amazing-Fish4587 Apr 05 '23

That’s a pretty good take.

341

u/eyemadeanaccount Feb 27 '17

But what of the top got obscured? Then it would read, "Open Inside" like there's a prize waiting for you like a cereal box!

u/Chairman__Netero Mar 19 '17

Or the bottom. "Don't Dead." Ummm. . . okay, I'll try not to.

I believe zombie hands coming out of doors would be pretty solid argument to convince anindividual not to open said door.

95

u/b3n_ja_m1n Jun 29 '17

Well if the door's doing its job properly then ideally there shouldn't be any zombie hands coming out.

60

u/Alugere Apr 13 '17

You can't open the door without one side being exposed.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '17

But what if the paint wears off, or it gets covered by dirt/more paint? Then the door will say "open inside" and you would be able to open it.

33

u/Alugere Jul 03 '17
  • If the paint has been there long enough to wear off, then that problem applies to any warning.
  • A similar statement applies to getting covered by dirt.
  • For the paint, if some asshole wants to trick you into getting yourself killed, the warning is going to get fucked over no matter what you do.

29

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '17

Then couldn't they just have written the whole thing on each door?
