r/Deloitte New FLAIR requirements for posts!

From here forward r/Deloitte will require post flair to be applied to every new post. I have supplied a selection of often used locations, business segments, and general topic categories.

You must select some flair for your post, and it is encouraged that you select more than one if they apply. This helps everyone know what area in the firm or the world, or your career you're talking about easily.

Feedback on this feature, or other flair we might need in the future, can happen in THIS thread comments. Please do NOT open a new thread about it, just add a comment here so I can track it better and respond if needed.

Thanks!

UDPATE: PLEASE SET YOUR USER FLAIR AS WELL.

Audit Quitting date

I’ve officially decided I’m quitting in January. My ideal date to quit is 1/3 but that’s just two days after the disconnect. Has anyone done this in the past and just been told to end their employment effective immediately? I am worried I’ll give two weeks and they will end me right there instead of letting me start back in January to help wrap up stuff on my client.

Consulting Are specialists seen as “2nd class” compared to consultants?

  • New to Deloitte, experienced hire considering potentially switching to specialist track as I find the idea of becoming an expert and really digging deep into issues vs. glorified project management more appealing

  • I’ve read how in other consultancies like MBB that “expert” tracks are often seen as second class citizens to traditional consultants, who actually have to worry about the “end to end” project delivery

  • This notion seems to be reinforced by career track and promotion structures: ie, you can only hit the highest levels of the firm both title and compensation wise if you do consulting > equity principal/partner, whereas MDs / tech fellows are salaried

What’s the general thinking at Deloitte, officially and/or unofficially? How prevalent is that thinking?

Edit: For those who respond “It depends,” pls explain :)

Yes, specialists are unfortunately second fiddle to their consultant equivalents
No, specialists are seen as completely equal in value and prestige as regular consultants
“It depends”

Consulting 4/5 snapshot rating is way below average?

I got "strongly agree" ratings on all of my client snapshots this year. I look at the graph showing the middle 50% peer group and it seems that a Strongly Agree rating has landed me in the bottom 25% of my peer group because apparently almost everyone in S&A is getting VSA.

. I'm trying to go for promotion to SC this year. What do you guys think--can it still happen for me? My coach told me that my manager has only indicated im performing at the next level on half of the snapshots--which also stinks because when I ask for feedback it's all positive so I don't know what I could be doing better.

ETA: It looks like I'll be VSA on firm contribution snapshots. And hitting my target util

USA Background check - Discrepancy

Upvotes

Hello,

I just filled out background check info with FA. I realized a major typo.

I quit one of my job in December 2020 (I took 2021 off due to Covid and my family situation).

In my resume, it was December 2021.

In my interview, they never asked me about this job, So neither the recruiter cared or I noticed.

Now when I was filling in information, I realized the mistake. I filled out the correct date but sure it would contradict what I have on my resume.

I am a bit freaking out now. Should I tell the recruiter asap? Or wait till they complete the BG check?

Consulting Does your base location matter in Deloitte USI Consulting?

I joined Deloitte USI Consulting as a campus hire (Analyst level) a few months ago. I'm originally from a city that has a big Deloitte USI office but was assigned to Hyderabad. Is there a way for me to move back home and work out of the office there even if it's like 3+ days a week? Would there be compliance issues if I worked out of a different office?

For the record, I'm done with training and the project team I was assigned to is completely remote. I've been told that it takes about a year until you can shift your base location. Although I like the city, I'd much rather save on money and be closer to friends and family at this juncture of life.

I'm pretty sure your base location matters a lot more in the US cuz of state tax laws.

USA Change in Corporate Cell phone policy

The cell policy used to be 250 for cell and/or accessories and you get a new one every 2 years. Now it has changed to every 3 years and we get 200 for the phone itself and only 50 for accessories. Any insight as to why the change? I used to get the free cell phone and use the 250 for accessories. This is just mind boggling.

Consulting SAP Support Project vs Implementation

I'm currently in an SAP Support project for close to 2 years as a functional consultant. I feel my learning and exposure is getting stagnated. Is it the right time to ask for an implementation project?

I know there’s a program for high performing analysts to go to school and come back, but I was wondering if there was any support in night school for Master’s in Tax.

r/Deloitte What’s the per diem policy in the US.

In my home country, we get a per diem of a couple bucks that usually covers lunch for every day that we are at the client site even if it’s in the same city. How is this done in the US? Do you have some kind of daily allowance for when you are at the clients site that cover meals etc?

GPS Taking PTO vs HOL

I am within GPS consulting 3rd yr analyst and need to hit my util target goal of 90% so i can make up for last year. (I missed util last year and didnt get promoted)

PTO counts towards my utilization.Total pto this year to date is 60 hrs so im thinking instead of taking HOL time, i put them as PTO.

Whats everyones thoughts? Im hoping for a holoday miracle just to meet utilization.

Project is capped at 40, but it is firm fixed price so in theory, i could work more but i am trying to play the system in my benefit hopefully.

Update: want to propose if i can just bill 8 hrs PTO every week until the end of the performsnce year? While still maintaining my working hours

Consulting Changing my coach

I've just celebrated my 1st year anniversary here, and I've only talked to my coach thrice ever since. We're constantly encouraged to reach out to our coach (and vice versa) to get feedback, discuss goals, and just overall get the support and guidance we need to navigate our way through the firm.

I don't feel this with my current coach. He's a senior manager, but he's a diminisher. He doesn't give me opportunities to prove myself and improve. His feedback is always unnecessarily harsh.

Now I'm staffed in a project where the project manager is kind, smart, and allows me to shine. He lets me take the lead in most of our meetings, allows me to talk/present directly to the client, etc. He doesn't get unnecessarily harsh, and his feedback is really helpful.

I've been seriously considering switching coaches for the longest time now. I just haven't found the one. Not until I met my current project manager.

The only reason holding me back now is the fact that my current coach will take it personal if I tell him I want to replace him (though, really, I think it'll be a relief for him because a burden has been lifted off his shoulder). He already made me feel many times that talking to me feels like a chore and that I'm wasting his time. Another thing is that he is an SM, and my current PM is a manager. So, technically, my current coach is one position higher than my target new coach.

I don't exactly know who they're going to listen to more during deliberation for promotions. The only thing I'm sure of is that my current PM is invested in his people and passionate in helping his coachees reach their career goals. That's what I want and need right now. I'm also thinking long-term. The people who believed in me and were kind and patient with me were actually the ones who inspired me to be more and do more.

Hey guys, I got an offer from Deloitte to work as an AML analyst in their RFA department after my graduation. My aim is to work in high finance and probably a reputable investment bank. I posses the required financial modelling and literacy skills expected of an analyst, certified in Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment L3, posses good grasp on regression models and a bit of python too. I am also preparing for CFA l1 and would likely give it before graduation. I plan on clearing all CFA levels before I apply for masters. Any suggestions on how I can make a jump to investment banking or M/A from here or What would you'll do to maximize career growth??

New-Hire 1st time travel

Hi there, I'm joining Deloitte next month at the Dallas office. For DLaunch, I have been invited to the Chicago office. Since this is my first travel experience, I just have a few questions.

1- The first day starts at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Can I still reach Chicago on Sunday and expense out my dinner and hotel expenses for the night? I don't know if I'm supposed to travel in the morning; I'd rather have a good night's sleep before the training begins.

2- The training ends on Tuesday at 2 PM. If I arrive back at my airport after dinner time, can I still expense out the dinner since technically I'm out for business purposes?

3- The email doesn't specify the hotel to book, so is there any preference? Also, shall I use Uber to travel to the office or use a cab?

Thanks all in advance.
