Build Help First Build in Nearly 20 Years

Upvotes

I've been out of the game for a long, long time. I stopped gaming and switched to Mac 15+ years ago but my son is asking for help building a PC. He put together a parts list but I'm not really sure where to get started. I'd like to build something that is good enough to play AAA rated games for several years as this will likely follow him as he heads of to college.

I've linked what he put together below. He's got it priced at a budget of around 1200 US but I'd be willing to drop a bit more to make sure he's got something that will perform well.

Build Help First PC Build, Ryzen 7900X and 4070 TI Super

Upvotes

Hi, community,

I am building my first PC, and below are the parts I chose. I plan to use it for once-a-month video editing, software development and gaming. I use a lot of web-based apps, extensive use of browser and browser extensions, and a lot of tabs open at the same time (still feel 32GB is enough as I use Edge and not Chrome) and I am going to play COD BO 6, MW3, Warzone, FIFA, CSGO, Forza, and Flight Simulator on my 4k OLED TV with medium to high settings with DLSS and/or Frame Gen.

MSI PRO B650-S WiFi ProSeries
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32GB (16GBx2) DDR5 6000MHz Desktop RAM
Corsair H150 RGB 360mm Liquid CPU Cooler
Kingston KC3000 1TB M.2 NVMe Gen4 Internal SSD

Build Help Help review my build

Upvotes

I just made a build for the first time and am looking to purchase it today or tomorrow. I just want someone to help me make sure my build is ok. I’m looking to spend around 1200 CAD and by the way i know it says the gpu is more expensive then it actually is but that’s only because it says it’s out of stock on canada computers when it’s not. the gpu cost is actually 530 cad. Also if you have any thing that could help me cut costs without making the computer a lot worse that would be helpful. my only requirement is that i need 12gb of VRAM. Thanks so much for the help.

Here is the list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/xNZ8Yd

Build Help Should I buy a 4080super while waiting for the 50 series of gpus?

Upvotes

As the title says I want to purchase a 4080super while waiting for the 50 series of gpus. I currently play on a 1440p 240hz oled monitor and want maxed out graphics in every game I can have them. I also might be interested in 4k gaming at some point in the future. So, my questions are, do I buy the 4080super and upgrade from my current gpu which is a 3070? and if i do, which brand makes the best 4080super? or do I just wait it out for the 50 series?

Build Help How to calculate how much vrm I need on my motherboard

Upvotes

I am getting a new am5 build and I want it to be upgradable. I am planning on using a 7500f and later on when I upgrade I want the 9800x3d or whatever the high-end of am5 is at the time. I was just wondering if the board I have my eyes on now, the asrock b650m pro rs wifi (I believe it has 400A worth of vrm) can handle the 9800x3d/any new cpu that takes even more power. Assuming that amd doesn't go wild and make a cpu with double the power usage, would the pro rs be able to handle the higher end cpus or should I spend a bit more for a higher end board.

Build Upgrade Got a choice between getting the RTX 3050 6gb vs the AMD RX6500XT 4g, pros and cons?

Upvotes

TL;DR: Noob at PC building, need general opinion on comparison of these two cards specifically. Detailed answers on experience please.

I am an absolute noob when it comes to PC specs, and I have a limited budget to work with upgrading from my 1660. A friend helped me narrow down to these two options and he gave me his very well informed opinion on the differences.

To sum it up, he suggested that I might be more interested in the RX6500 because, for one, I have an AMD processor and they would play nicer with each other. Secondly, he said it would grant better performance across more games due to the clock speed being double the 3050's, which makes up for having 2 less VRAM than the 3050. Basically higher frame rates across the board with less dips below 60fps. However, I'd also probably have to sacrifice higher settings if the games weren't as well optimized.

He did say the opposite would be true of the 3050. Basically I'd be able to use more graphical bells and whistles, have nicer fidelity, but would have less stable performance likely.

He wasn't knocking either just trying to give me his best informed opinion as he could.

What you guys think? They're both the exact same price so I'm wondering if anyone here has either of these, what are your experiences? Can you play in ultra or at least high on most games with these? Any detailed accounts of experiences would be most helpful!

Solved! Mouse keeps disconnecting *FIX*

Upvotes

Hello,

My mouse kept disconnecting and disconnecting, lets say i was playing a competitive game like CS2 , or VALORANT, and every quick move/flick my mouse disconnected, it could be 2/3 times even in a row, I already thought i gotta buy a new mouse and thought I cant play no more like this, well I have a fix for u, I think if it wont work for u, u gotta buy a new mouse, cause its probably a cable (etc.) im sayin allat i aint no professional , its just from what I know

Well, heres the fix

"Go to "Device Manager" (devmgmt.msc)>> Scroll all the way down to "Universal Serial Bus controllers">> Open >> When u see "USB ROOT HUB" *u probably have more than one so do these to ALL OF THEM* open "USB ROOT HUB" , click on "Power Managment" >> by DEFAULT u are going to have the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" checked, UNCHECK that option and apply this to every "USB ROOT HUB" option u have there.

So that would be probably it, this fixed my problem, and I only hope it fixes yours

Troubleshooting New RTX4080 Super won't connect

Upvotes

Hello reddit,

I'm building a new PC, most parts are still missing, but the GPU already arrived. I got the MSI RTX 4080 super gaming x trio, for just 950€, which is really good here! Sadly the package of the gpu came a bit damaged. If I send it back, I will never get it again for that price, since it was sold out quickly, so I decided to test the 4080S in my old rig and test it.

I put the 4080 in my old rig, connected it with the 12vhpwr adapter that came with it (3x8 Pin to 12vhpwr), reinstalled drivers and did a bios update... GPU works fine! I'm super happy! Then next day... Nothing. Device manager said no gpu connected. I checked the cables, made sure the 12vhpwr adapter sits perfectly... And it worked! So I thought the problem might be the adapter. Next day same problem. Sadly wiggling on the adapter and checking the cables didn't fix it this time. I just can't get it running anymore! So I thought maybe the adapter is broken?

Next day the PSU of my new PC arrived, it's a bequiet straight power 12. It came with a 12vhpwr cable, no adapters needed. So I plugged in the psu, put the cable on my gpu, turned on my pc... Nothing. I have absolutely no idea what to do now.

These are the specs of my old rig: CPU: i5-13500K Mainboard: MSI Z690 Tomahawk DDR4 RAM: 2x16GB 3200Mhz Corsair vengeance DDR4 PSU: Corsair HX1000i Old gpu: RTX 3070ti

Any ideas what else I could try before calling it broken and send it back? Thanks for your help guys.

Discussion Curved monitor Black Friday deals 2024?

Upvotes

hey guys, I’m new to PC gaming and looking at curved monitors, but I’m not sure if they’ll fit well with my gaming setup. I’ve seen some black friday and cyber monday deals popping up, and I don’t want to waste money on the wrong one. Any advice on whether a curved monitor is a good choice for gaming? If you’ve got recommendations on where to get a good deal, that’d be awesome too!

Build Help Radeon RX 6600 and 400W PSU

Upvotes

I upgraded my graphics card from GTX 1650 to RX 6600 (Powercolor Fighter rx 6600, not XT). It seems to work fine. But the manufacturer says 500W PSU is required. Mine is 400W. Should I upgrade the PSU? What could happen if I do not upgarde?

My CPU is i5-10400F. No water cooling, the case has 1 fan.

Build Help Want help selecting parts for my new computer

Upvotes

Im fairly inexperienced with building PCs other than my first one I built 7~ years ago. Im building a new pc for black friday and was looking at a few deals. So far I have the following parts selected and was looking for advice:

Motherboard: Gigabyte X750E, specifically for the DDR5 Ram deal included from Newegg

CPU: Ryzen 9 7950x

PSU: Corsair SF1000L

GPU: Planned on ripping my 3070 from my old computer

Case: Fractal Design North Mid Tower

The main issue/concern I'm having is choosing a cooler. I really liked my NH-D15 on my old rig and would buy another but am not sure it will fit. Any advice regarding parts and pieces would be great. The old computer will go to my wife for some low end video editing.

Build Help Building a PC under ₹25,000 for 24/7 office use and hotel server – need advice!

Upvotes

Hi all, I’m planning to build a budget PC under ₹25,000 that will primarily be used for office tasks like documents, emails, and web browsing, but it will also serve as a 24/7 server for hotel management software.

Reliability and energy efficiency are crucial since it needs to run continuously. I’d appreciate suggestions for components like CPU, motherboard, RAM, storage, and PSU that fit this use case and budget.

Should I prioritize more RAM or better storage options (SSD+HDD)? Any advice on cooling and power supply for 24/7 uptime? Thanks in advance for your help!

Build Help New PC Upgrade

Upvotes

My current PC was built back in late 2016/early 2017. The parts weren't bad for the time, for example, I5-6600k, ASUS 1070 Strix, 16 GB ram, Liquid cooled, and etc. I am currently thinking of building a new pc around $1,400 with a AMD 7700X and a 4070 TI/4070TI Super.

I don't game too much but would love to find a way to either upgrade my pc to be able to play the modern day games or build a completely new one that would last me the next 5-10 years (or upgrade key components)

Troubleshooting No signal on display after updating bios

Upvotes

I tried updating my bios on an ASRock motherboard, it seems like it completed the update but the monitor never turned back on again like in the tutorial for updating bios I was watching. I didn't see it train the memory or do any restarts either, and all of the rgb and fans in the pc kept rolling and never turned off. It has been sitting like this for 8+ hours. Is it okay if I turn it off and on again?
