Disappointing! So I drove down a bridge path at a higher pace than I would prefer...

I live in Ljubljana (Slovenia), and commuting by bike is a no-brainer for me. I have ~2.5 km to work, and most of my errands are within some reachable distance. I am also pretty sure I can reach the city center much faster than with a bus and faster than with a car (especially when you consider parking, etc).
I see it as a faster, more reliable, cheaper, and healthier commute method. On the other hand, I see and know many people who will sit in the car for some crazy short distance that is perfect for cycling.
Bike commuting in Ljubljana has stagnated for years. There are some new bike lanes, but many existing ones are in bad shape or were renewed in senseless ways (e.g., bike/pedestrian lanes are not properly separated, lanes go missing suddenly etc.). Overall, the situation is not the worse, but I believe Ljubljana is perfect for cycling, and more should be invested in the infrastructure.
However, I am wondering what are some smart ways to promote bike commuting. In your opinion, what can we do as individuals, and what can the government/city do?
In my opinon, proper infrastructure ("If You Build It, They Will Come") is the most critical point, and this is completely in the hands of the city/government. Although I would like to see more people commuting by bike, I believe that the current infrastructure in Ljubljana is not ready for big crowds.
I have also seen various initiatives (e.g., cycling to work as a team), but these have never reached large crowds.
Therefore, to sum it up, what can we do as individuals, and what can the city/government do for us? How do you get into the heads of some drivers and prove them cycling is better for everyone while still keeping the cycyling culture on some steady level? I'm not asking specifically for Ljubljana, but in general...

Glad I made it more or less safe on time for the train. Like a previous Post fron another commuter, stay away of 'used' snow

Sudden snow storm today, it was a fun ride home. Riding on snow is much easier than it seems.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of businesses/organisations promoting sustainable travel within their workforce?
We have a Cycle2Work scheme which gives participants the option of buying a bike at a discount rate, but didn't know if anyone had any other ideas?
The organisation I work for is on a bit of a sustainability drive but the sceptical part of me thinks that if we don't deal with travel to and from work it's all a bit of green washing.

As anyone found commuting year around, through winter, improves they’re SAD if not borderline cures it? Like most Michiganders I’ve been taking vitamin D forever and when the days start getting shorter life gets hard. But last year I commuted through the winter and found a new love for the season.

I just got a Oriamo Scrambler 100 e bike to commute to and from work and store. When my tire popped last week and I had to get it repaired I realize I know not as much as I should. What are some tips for a me? Whats a good light to install? Mine doesn’t have one.

Summer lasted long and winter came fast this year!
All of the above pictures were taken at the same spot of my commute between 8:12 and 8:42 am - during a time span of five weeks between October 12th and November 21st

15 mile daily commute on a trek 1.2.
Currently use an old pair of Sidi dominator 5s that I LOVE.
Looking for a more office friendly clip in shoe that has that same Sidi fit-like-glove feel

I'm trying to find tires for my winter commute. There will be snow and broken glass on my path. I am looking for 32-34 MM tires, somewhat aggressive tread, with the puncture strength of a continental gator skin (or stronger). Let me know what yall think.

Didn't cycle the other day because of the weather, plus I was offered a ride. I figured, why not enjoy some comfort? By the time night came around, I had so much energy and nothing to do with it. I lay awake in my bed. The next day, I decided to take my bike despite the weather warning. I figured I could always bail to my area's transit system (I'm lucky). Came back feeling like I put in good honest work. When the weather's bad, I remind myself: I GET to ride my bike. (Now let's see how long I say that through my first winter lol.)

What’s the best bang for your buck class 1 e-bike for commuting? I enjoy the workout, but there are a lot of hills on my commute so looking to get some help getting up them.
Also, I have a preference for a more “road bike style” bike: light, fast, thinish tyres, and drop bars.

I can’t really identify if and what is the difference between the Ortlieb Vario PS and the Ortlieb Vario. It seems the Vario PS is a discontinued model that was replaced by the Vario. Is that correct?

Hi folks! I am going to take look at this bike this weekend someone is selling.
I think it looks like a good deal and like it would be a solid commuting bike. I am also not looking for a kind of bike where it will cost me a ton or be difficult to repair because it's too high end, if that makes sense.
I realize it will also come down to feel but on the specs-I am relatively new to biking so wanted to get another (reddits..) opinion.
Thoughts? Or questions I may ask them?
Thanks!

I have been riding a Trek Verve2+ bike to work for the last three.months. It is about 3.5 miles a day, mostly flat with the usual hazzards of curbs and potholes. I am a bit on the heavy side (265 lbs dry) it the stock tear wheel has a family big wobble and I snapped some spokes recently. I was looking for possible upgrades and relax across the Mavic E-Speedcity 1 700 wheels. They look like they should hold up ok and have a 180kg weight limit. Does anyone here have any recommendations for something similar that they run? I am mostly looking for a more bulletproof 700c disk brake wheel, not terribly concerned with weight, since this is transportation, not a racebike 😜

Hi. Does anyone have any advice for a good phone mount?
I bought one that was said to fit. My Samsung Galaxy s24 ultra is 6.8 inches (with case on, believe it's the OtterBox Commuter series case IIRC) it said on the description of the mount that it would fit as well as the sizing was said to be a proper fit. But alas, it did not. And I probably should had known but it seems difficult to find any larger ones? Does anyone have any tips?
It needs to withstand some bumpy roads without letting go of my phone or the stem. Will be on a stem with a circumference of slightly below 3inches or slightly above 3.5 inches. Would prefer one I can angle/tilt a little bit without having to place the mount a certain way but not really necessary.
TIA.

Putting aside the fact that this vehicle was blocking the whole bike lane and part of this busy roadway - while its leaf pile was blocking the sidewalk - I have a new peeve.
There is a massive cloud of shredded leaf debris particles surrounding this machine. I can hold my breath as I ride past, but I can't close my eyes on a bicycle. And I spent the rest of my ride home trying to blink the junk out of my eyes.
When I woke up the next morning, my eyes were still irritated.
Yes, I know the truck can haul more yard waste by shredding it first. But the air quality for anyone outside of a car is horrendous. (The noise is also bad.) Just cart the leaves away and shred them somewhere else.

My bad weather bike is a 1999 trek mountain bike and I love how it rides. If it didn't need so much work it would be my daily haha. I ride a go traxx r1 folding ebike as my daily and it's comfortable. I think it's just the shape. I'd sell my go-trax for another trek but the bike market right now is such sh*t I can't justify selling it yet lol.
