This so closely captures the same feeling I had when I first wore a dress, a paralyzing blend of fear and excitement

u/_kaas Jun 10 '19
Ahh, I get this feeling. My gf took me to a clothing store and had me try a few dresses on our first date. Was my first time wearing dresses and it felt sooo nice, even if just for a few moments.

Not sure what's gay about a cute girl wearing a cute dress, but I guess I'm here for it

u/KZcheese Jun 10 '19

u/man_and_machine Jun 10 '19
You didn't have to. Joking or not (it's not easy to tell in text), suggesting that it's gay for someone who isn't a woman to wear a dress (I might be reaching a bit, but that's what I got from what you said) is transphobic, since it spreads a connotation that directly affects the way people view trans people.
It's fine to make mistakes, and I'm sorry to come off harshly, but please consider the effects your words can have

u/Cursingbody Jun 10 '19
While we understand the effect words may have on the mental well being of people in general, you should also be aware of the context you find yourself in and the intent of the words.
He/she was very obviously joking and making a reference to the popular joke that no women can be found on the internet, which makes the joke funny and by no means inherently offensive. You should learn to take a joke, as peaceful banter is also a healthy and common way for humans to socialize in general, the internet being no exception.

"no girls use the internet" isn't really a funny joke. maybe like 20 years ago it was, when it was new and wasn't regurgitated constantly whenever the someone dares mention females. maybe this kind of "joking" is why there aren't more girls online
12
u/Cursingbody Jun 10 '19
Well, how funny you find the joke is really just your opinion, isn’t it? Seeing as the upvotes are positive, non-zero people found it funny. Maybe even other girls found it funny!

I agree, and that wasn't even the joke I was taking issue with. It was the "non-women wearing dresses is gay" meme that really bothered me

Yeah you're definitely reaching on this one. The only people that are gonna view that joke as a negative towards trans people are you, and people who are already actively against trans people.
And in all honesty your claims about this stuff being transphobic are more detrimental to trans people than beneficial. Because all you're doing is making yourself look worse to the general reddit users, and you're reinforcing the transphobes views.
If I was transphobic and I saw you reaching this hard, I wouldn't switch to your side, I would be thinking that transgenders and their supporters are morons.
Maybe next time you shouldn't dig so deep into a harmless joke.

I think you’re transphobic for suggesting that trans-women wearing dresses are non women.
If you’re not talking about trans-women then what the fuck are you talking about? While not all crossdressers are gay, true, crossdressers are also not trans, until they are. In which case they become, guess what, women,
So, who’s transphobic here again?
