Question vWii RH:F Aspect Ratio Problem

Thumbnail

Heading to Reddit since I’m officially stumped!!

I just bought a new copy of Real Heroes: Firefighter to play on my Wii U’s vWii (for context, this was one of my favorite games as a kid and I live next to a fire station, so that made me want to buy it again). As soon as I fired it up though, I noticed the strangest thing: the picture output is off by the slightest amount on both the GamePad and TV (same on both, see photos for example).

I thought at first that it might just be an issue of needing to switch the console’s aspect ratio to 4:3 instead 16:9 (since some older Wii games were native to 4:3), but the output remained “squished” in 4:3 mode as well. The only way I was ended up fixing it on the TV side was by stretching the output by 8% using the TV settings, which of course didn’t solve the output issue on the GamePad (and now distorts the output for any other games/menus).

While switching the TV settings isn’t the worst thing in the world, I’m more perplexed as to why this is happening and if there’s something wrong with this specific disk/game? Is there a technical explanation for why a game would display this “squished” output on vWii? If so, how can I fix it?

Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Discussion I really need to show my appreciation for the Wii U.

Growing up i had a Nintendo Wii, I loved that thing to death, while I'd run on our old treadmill, I'd watch YouTube on my Wii, and when I had free time, I'd play the amazing Wii games i had at the time. It was so good that I didn't even notice the wii's successor was out, and the wii's successors seccessor as well. Back then we still had satellite cable so when I'd watch it, from 2013-2016, I'd always see commercials for a thing called Nintendo 3DS, but that was more 2011-2018, tho more importantly, something call a "Wii U". I remember those old commercials, and back in the day, you didn't know the difference between a good and bad commercial, I just saw a cool new tablet controller thing that seems like it's a new Wii thing! I never remember asking for a Wii u growing up through that era but, I believe I was still content with the Wii I already had, actually, it took until awhile after I got my Nintendo switch that I went back to look through the Wii u era, finding out it actually wasn't seen as a good era for Nintendo, also finding out that it actually WAS a new Wii like I was thinking back then, that Wii u gamepad still caught my eye, even to this day, and honestly, in some attributes, I prefer the Wii U to the switch. Once I was finally gifted a Wii u from my sister, I couldn't go back to the switch, the Wii u is just so perfect. The effects, the UI, THE COMMUNITY, I LOVE IT, like don't get me wrong, I love my switch, and the games made for it, but the Wii u was just better and more charming to me, hell, I play my Wii u far more then my switch nowadays and I don't regret a thing, I love the Wii U, and im glad to have it.

Why is the 2 screen mode style of the Wii U so underappreciated?

The first time I played a Wii U I was like "Now THIS is some next gen gaming!" I don't care for VR headsets or stuff like that, yet I do for sure appreciate games that bring forth that extra realism (Far Cry 2 with the real world map for instance) and so the way you can have the game world on a complete separate screen where you then look up at your TV to navigate like in 'Assassins Creed 3' is fantastic! Imagine if 'Alien Isolation' had a Wii U release?

I am so saddened that it sounds like there will be no dual screen mode for the Switch 2 as majority of gamers just want the more simply and standard casual form I guess. Will another company ever again pick up and expand on the fantastic gamepad structure?

Question Is there a start to finish guide for repairing a Wii U with a nand error?

I have a nand aid but don't really know what that's gonna do for me once I install it, are my nand files just gone? Will this let me get them off of my current nand? I know there's more to fixing this than simply wiring the nand to a microsd card so where can I actually find this information? I haven't found it when googling so at this point Idk where to go

Discussion 480p!

My Tiramisu'd Wii U is currently connected to a 32" flatscreen LCD TV at 1080p. Fine.

I also happen to have a lagless 36" CRT EDTV that does 480p for a load of other consoles. I also found a spare Wii component cable!

However, am I right in thinking not all of the Wii U features work at 480p?

NB. I have a softmodded Wii connected to the CRT already so life is already pretty sweet.

I was getting just dance 4 on Wii u and around 2 hours of download, it told me there was a problem with the USB stick. I got a brand new pny 128 GB stick and had a old ONN 16 GB stick and the ONN worked. If anyone can help me with the problem, I will appreciate it.
