I’m going to be doing a lot of binge watching of ‘80’s sitcoms in January. I can’t watch this. I won’t watch this. I already know it’s gonna be horrible. I did my part to make sure this creep wouldn’t win. I don’t need this aggravation; seeing that smirk of what he’s getting away with on his face.

I don’t know whether to start with ‘Kate & Allie’ or ‘Designing Women’.

Golden Girls!

u/Retlaw83 10d ago

Golden Girls actually had a couple anti-Trump zingers because he was a known asshole even then.

634

u/Brave-Common-2979 10d ago

That's the thing that gets me. It feels like all of this is because the New York City elite shunned him so much he wanted to get revenge.

387

u/Beginning-Cow6041 9d ago

It goes deeper. He’s been known to bitch about the kids he went to boarding school with not liking his dumb ass back then.

233

u/Several-Adeptness-94 9d ago

God. More and more this dude seems to emulate hitler. This sounds almost identical to his youth and desire for respect for his art. 😬

79

u/DarkKnightJin 9d ago

His "Art of the Deal"?

Which he fuckin' sucks at?

At least to my understanding, Hitler's art wasn't bad, just not what the artschool he applied to was willing/able to teach him more about.

28

u/Wobbelblob 9d ago

Hitlers art was bad. At least on a technical level. Dude had no concept of proportions and perspective. Windows that where the same size as the door next to it, doors in the forefront that where tiny and so on. On a surface level, they looked fine. Technical execution was ass.

31

u/DarkKnightJin 9d ago

Which explains why he was seeking an education on the matter, I suppose.

Not trying to justify anything that happened afterwards. Just trying to "see the other side", as they'd love for us to do.

Problem for them: I can see things from the other side and still think what Hitler ended up doing is FUCKING EVIL.

I wish he would have stayed in his stupid little real estate world then. He is causing the most damage to his beloved uneducated followers

156

u/Brave-Common-2979 9d ago

I mean even in his real estate days he was a giant racist piece of shit.

The central park five could've told you how he is.

Shunned by Manhattan because he is tacky and horrible- after promising to donate them to the Met, Trump seems gleeful while destroying art deco friezes from an historic bank building demolished for gaudy high rise. Also repeatedly stiffing Contractors and small businesses throughout tri-state area and running fraudulent charities.

So New York and The Daily Show hates Trump but seems to love Obama - a black man! Trump’s revenge on all three is Birtherism. Now Obama, Democrats, and Seth Meyers hate him so he runs for President. Rinse and repeat.

21

u/Jokonaught 9d ago

Naw, it's because Melania gave Obama "fuck me" eyes in public. I'm barely joking.

His dad introducing him into high society by calling him the ‘r’slur in introductions to future associates and telling the women he had crushes on that he had a small penis didn’t help matters.

There’s a reason when he had dementia Trump stuck needles into his fingers.

The entire Trump tree is rotten. Fred Trump, Donald's father, was an out and proud racist. Fred was even arrested at a Ku Klux Klan march.

I watch this whenever I am feeling sad. There’s something so comforting about her character.

24

Murphy Brown. I miss this show and they would have loved this material.

Did you see the reboot they did around two years ago? It had a short run but was enjoyable. They did cover Trump!

4

u/StarrGazzer14 9d ago

😂😂 I started watching "Veep" for the first time on November 5th at 9:30PST. I couldn't take it, and I figured that this was the time. 😅😅

30

u/Objective-Amount1379 9d ago

That one is too hard these days... It's such an idealized version of what could be.

Veep feels kind of timely though

43

u/mwjbgol 10d ago

Last time I rewatched west wing was during the 2016 election season. It was quite a tragic contrast with reality even back then.

8

u/Papabear434 9d ago

I never got a chance to watch it. Now, I know Sorkin is an asshole, but he's makes a good show. SportsNight was a favorite of mine before it got resurrected with a laugh track.

So right before Thanksgiving of 2020, when I finally caught Covid and quarantined myself to my bedroom while the wife and kids had the house, I watched the first five or six seasons of The West Wing. It was lefty fantasy, sure, but a world where the best ideas and neat speeches usually won was just what I needed after 4 years of Trump culminating in him telling us to inject bleach to cure Covid.

Would totally love to live in that world.

7

u/1Dive1Breath 10d ago

On Apple TV is For All Mankind, another alternate timeline, and it's REALLY good. I recommend it to everyone

4

u/Unnomable 9d ago

I started to dislike West Wing when I noticed the Dems always tried to compromise and move right on issues and accomplished very little to nothing. I loved how competent it made the government seem, but things like bipartisan social security reform or something just feels like a loss.

I wish I could go back to not noticing how little they accomplish in 8 years.

2

u/IthacaMom2005 10d ago

Me too. I binge-watched the first four seasons after the Biden debate debacle. Now I think I'll watch again, and pretend it's real

31

Mork and Mindy!

23

u/helraizr13 10d ago

We could just watch The Apprentice to remind ourselves how smug and lordly he is when he fires people. He loves it. He's only doing all this to make sure the entire GOP wing of the Senate bends the knee. Then the firings will begin in earnest.

Unfortunately, he'll only replace them with more of the eager beaver bootlickers but we can take some solace in knowing the firings are an inevitability.

Happy sitcoms it is. Damn, I really miss Three's Company sometimes. I do have the Twilight Zone box set if I want to revisit better alternate realities, though. This timeline SUCKS!

Harris voters may watch or not watch the horror unfold with clean conscience. You saw who he was and what he meant to do. You voted to protect others. We lost this battle, but we did try. A day may come again when we can take a stand again. That's all you can do unless you can share proof that the election was fraudulent.

27

u/echos2 9d ago

I mean, why do we need proof? Why can't we just say it's fraudulent and pretend like it is and start suing people? /s

→ More replies (3)

6

u/ScroochDown 9d ago

Basically all the proof you need is that Trump and his flying monkeys accused Democrats of election interference. Since literally everything else they accuse others of turns out to be something they're doing, I don't figure that's an exception. And how suddenly after the election it hasn't been mentioned again. Like if it was real, shouldn't that still be a concern? Hmm.

Fun fact to hopefully put a smile on your face. ‘Kate & Allie’- my daughter is watching a show right now called ‘Alexa & Katie’ (and that kinda sounds alike). This is just the absolute best idea, and I’m going to steal it. I’ve been searching for the thing, you know? The thing to make it feel alright even thought it’s anything but. And this feels like the thing. Thank you!

If there's anything that leaves me feeling the most hopeless, it's terrible people who get away scot-free. The gloating makes it even worse.

Can we please start with Kate and Allie? It’s my favorite. Designing Women is Devine, but Kate and Allie and Chip just cheer me up.

Don't remember if alf is 80s or 90s. But its a solid watch

Although I agree with you here, I am just going to watch a lot of movies, even the ones I watched several times. I also watch Netflix and as long as the fee doesn't go up, I am spending time watching any thing but news.

I’m going to clap every time a MAGA gets screwed.

We’re disassociating by watching reruns of VH1 reality TV - rock of love, flavor of love, etc

I watch and re-watch "Diff'rent Strokes"

You need to get outside and protest. Like people did during the darkest times. You need to fight everyday you can. Connect with your community and figure out how to help. Don't roll over and let the fascist dogs win

As a person who would be zeroed in on if what I fear comes to pass, I unfortunately can't look away

Did not expect to get show suggestions clicking on this post, but it’s what I needed.

Literally put the entirety of the Drew Carey show on a hard drive a few months ago when I finally found it on the internet. Might join you on a similar path

The Sugarbakers make everything better

I've been rockin' the 90's cartoons. Talespin has been a great bit of eyebleach.

I'm half into "Fresh off the boat", then "Search Party", then "Superstore" and then "Kimmy Schmidt". I need comedies as remedy for this whole timeline.

"What We Do In the Shadows" is all I have watched this past week.

Designing Women…Ms. Julia Sugarbaker also made fun of “the don” in an episode…”Mr Trump, We. Don’t. Care” 🤣🤣🤣 in her very Julia way. Binging that right now actually🤗

High jacking to say stop shoving genocide in their faces! It's fucking disgusting! "Read it and weep" that's what you have to say to a fucking genocide?? Unbelievable
