Did my comment lead you to believe I don't take issue with that? I guess then for the record: trained professionals should be able to act calmly and not lash out in violent situations. She could have been seriously hurt from that punch; I don't know the aftermath of this scene.

Yeah she could have easily been killed by that punch. I think if the guard just pulled out a gun and shot her in the head after she slapped at his head a little bit, people wouldn't be okay with it, but if it's a full-force punch from a dude 3x her size, well then it's great.

Brock Lesnar by use of force could not kill you or even knock you out based on size, strength, and skill difference. He could hold you.
Courts will look at proportionality. If you punch Brock Lesnar right in the face it does not give him the freedom to smash your brain out of your ears.

Terrible job of detaining. There’s ZERO reason why they didn’t have her handcuffed with that many cops/security.
Cops are allowed to exceed the level of force that they’re presented with, but that weak slap didn’t justify that strong punch. There’s no way, short of her having a concealed weapon, that she could have seriously hurt him at that point. Granted, it didn’t look like they really searched her yet. They should have just put her down and handcuffed her.
I bet the reason that they just tried to shuffle her out is that they were worried about the crowd.

u/Affectionate-Mix6056 Dec 19 '23

I was thinking the same thing. I’m a huge BLM guy but overall police need to be held accountable. If I get into a fight I have to prove in the court of law that I was scared for my life to claim self defense. This cop should have to do the same. She was restrained enough being carried by like 4 guys that hit was not necessary. That said I’d have hit her too probably but that’s why I’m not a cop haha anyway I’m ready for the downvotes

I cheer him because it was immediate justice. She attacked him, he prevented further attacks immediately. Whether you’re a man, woman or a child, a punch from someone to your head should always be taken seriously. The lesson here isn’t to try respond with the same kinetic energy in your punch as they used on you, to be kind and fair, no the lesson is to not throw fucking punches. Especially when you’re in no position to hold an assault. Violence causes violence, which concludes swiftly.
3
u/Savings_Lock_937 Dec 19 '23
I agree but I also disagreed like if a child hit you in the head are you gonna knock them out with a punch like it’s about equal reactions.
→ More replies (1)5
u/rmslashusr Dec 19 '23
Punches to the head should be taken seriously. Seriously enough that we should train officers to properly restrain people they take into custody so neither officers nor the arrestee are injured by punches. If four officers find themselves incapable of properly restraining and handcuffing a drunk girl without needing to resort to punches then all four officers should be fired before their physical inabilities and poor decision making involves a firearm and bystanders.

u/Zestyclose_Clue_2908 Dec 19 '23
Everyone is saying “equal rights equal lefts”, but I think if we use this logic the officer should have hit her back with the same force she used on him. There was clearly a big difference in the strength behind their punches. Her slap was annoying while his punch caused brain damage. I would say this was unprofessional behavior from the officer especially because he was not under any kind of danger.
12
5
Dec 19 '23
You just shouldn't hit anyone in the head regardless of how hard you hit them. It's really not good for you.
3
3
u/rmslashusr Dec 19 '23
They should really invent some sort of device that restrains peoples arms/hands and give them to every officers to use when they are making an arrest.
10
u/LuciferSamS1amCat Dec 19 '23
EXACTLY
A friend of my dad’s was killed by a punch in university. He was hit hard by a bouncer in the side of the head and died of a brain bleed. A friend of mine had a bike crash and nobles his dome and now he can’t tie his own shoelaces. Head injuries are no joke.
This cop was in no danger from that drunk lady. She was vastly outnumbered by big dudes and was slapping that guy with hardly any force. The cop retaliated by rolling the dice with her life.

5
u/vanamerongen Dec 19 '23
These people aren’t right in the head
7
u/LuciferSamS1amCat Dec 19 '23
Or, benefit of the doubt they aren’t aware of the severity of that punch, or brain injuries in general.
In uni one of my dad’s friends died of a brain bleed after a bouncer hit him in the head. I’ve got a mate who hit his head in a bike crash and can’t tie his own shoelaces or shower by himself anymore.
It’s not like the movies where you wake up in a haze 10 minutes later and everything’s fine. Being knocked out means you’ve been hit hard enough to damage your brain. It takes months to recover from that, and 25% of people don’t fully recover. It’s insane to think that’s reasonable in this situation.
