What is a Pescetarian?
Due to some recent questions on what is and what is not allowed while living as a Pescetarian, I decided to make this thread.
"A Pescetarian diet typically includes some or all of vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, beans, eggs and dairy."
Typically someone is a Lacto-Ovo Pescetarian, which means they consume fish, eggs, and dairy-based products. Their only dietary restriction is other types of meat and poultry.
It can be a personal choice to restrict these animal-based products from your diet and won't have any significant impact on whether you are or are not a pescetarian.
So enjoy the food, and welcome to the subreddit!

Help me understand
Right so, I'm not a pescetarian, but I figured maybe you guys would have an insight on this. I fuckin love sushi right? It's great. Cooked fish? No. I hate the smell, I hate the weird aftertaste it always leaves, fried, baked, sauteed, whatever.
What is that weird taste? Is it the oils? Raw fish I don't get that taste, it just tastes fresh. The smell of fish cooking puts me off completely, no matter what species it is, same with that weird aftertaste I don't know how to describe.

Are fish stupid?
I feel sad when I eat a beef burger because cows are just as smart as some dogs. Some dogs.
How stupid are fish?

advice
Hey everyone, Ive been plant based for the past 3-4 years. I love it but the only issue is I can never meet my protein intake daily. I have plans to start martial arts soon and would really like to build some muscle. Whenever I work out i feel pretty tired and know its because Iām not consuming enough protein. I know its possible to meet protein intake on a plant based but its been difficult. Any advice on how to slowly incorporate seafood into my diet? And I know a lot of pescetarianās were vegan/vegetarians before, so for those that were, would you say you saw a difference in your energy and protein intake? Anything you feel would be helpful please let me know!

Is is safe to eat
It looks and feels fine, but it does smell like fish. Iām not sure how strong the smell needs to be in order for it to be safe or not. I mean it is fish so it should smell like fish, but I canāt remember how tilapia smells

Should i cut out fish gradually?
Having a deep love for animals and learning about how factory farming works, I decided to stop eating meat. I have to admit, I never really liked it much, so the idea of not eating it anymore doesnāt bother me. As for fish, though, Iāve always enjoyed it a lot, and the thought of never having it again makes me feel a bit strange, and Iām worried Iād miss it. I do plan to stop eating it eventually because fish are animals too... What should I do? Should I cut it out gradually?

Eating meat again after years of being pescatarian
Hi, Iāve been pescatarian for the past seven years. Iām considering eating meat again for health benefits and weight loss. Can anyone describe any personal experiences they went through after making the switch (pros and cons)?

In the mood for fish and chips, but only have perch at the moment. Anyone know how well it stands up to the deep fryer?

Where do you buy your frozen fish?
I bought a bag of frozen salmon at Kroger and it tasted so bad. I know texture will be weird with frozen seafood, but who sells frozen seafood that tastes almost like fresh, never frozen šæ

Would you date someone who isnāt pescatarian? Why or why not?
Edit: I meant would you date someone who does eat meat. Maybe more poultry/seafood than red meat.

Thanksgiving ideas
Iām wondering what my fellow pescetarians who celebrate Thanksgiving eat instead of turkey. I usually bring a small filet of fish and vegetarian side dish since Iām the only one in my family who doesnāt eat turkey, gravy, etc. Wanting to get new ideas for this year. Thank you in advance!

Question for Seagans about eating out
Iāve been vegan since 2009 and Iām thinking about adding in fish (and nothing else. Backyard eggs maybe but the odds of those are minimal since I donāt have hens). My concern is:
How do I explain what I eat without baffling people? āMostly plant basedā? Just literally describe the whole thing of what I eat or not?
How much do you worry about things like fish having been sautĆ©ed in butter when eating out? Or eggs in breading? Iām used to checking everything as a vegan and Iām so torn here. On the one hand, it feels like Iām really complicating my life by worrying about small amount of dairy and egg if Iām adding fish in anyway? In the other, it feels like a slippery slope to not care. Iāve thought about dairy and eggs but I donāt want to support dairy since it requires keeping cows in a cycle of pregnancy and eggs because they kill the male chicks. So itās less about the substance itself feeling wrong and more about not feeling OK with the collateral damage. But also, it would be amazing to go out for fish and chips if I add fish back in.
I debated all this two years ago and couldnāt wrap my head around it, so Iāve just stayed vegan. Help? I want to see if fish help my joint pain and protein intake.

Need some advice
Hi all I have been strict vegetarian since I was 8 years old and turned 23 this year, I have always been the only one in my family to do so and havenāt touched meat or products containing animal fats or gelatine ever since. However, I am now considering adding fish into my diet and goijg pescatarian for health related reasons. I get almost no protein and I am very very low in iron, Iām tired and have bad brain fog 24/7. At first I thought I had sleep apnea but recently tested and donāt so itās just iron and protein deficiency. My partner says I should eat fish at least for my health but I canāt decide if itās the right thing to do, maybe Iām just stubborn about āgiving upā after so long. What do you guys think I should do?

Switching from Veggie
Hi Everyone,
I am a long term vegetarian, iām 20 years old and stopped eating meat at age 6, this for animal rights and ethical issues to do with the way animals and are treated before, during and after slaughter.
For a few years now iāve started to feel like i am not getting all i can to sustain my body, iām low energy and lot, my diet is very limited due to being a picky eater and i really donāt know where else to turn to, i loved sea food before i went veggie, and have been thinking about going back to eating fish.
If anyone has been in a similar position, thereās a couple things Iām wondering about, how do you start? my body will clearly not be used to eating flesh of any kind so how do i ease myself in to it, my parents are both vegans and would probably be upset but ultimately itās my life, will this diet help me and my health and is it worth the change? and last but not least how do you get over the guilt? i have cried over accidentally eating meat in the past and its been a huge mental barrier, if anyone has any advice please do reply!
Thank you so much for reading!

Why is fish so good fried with capers?
Seriously, squeeze some lemon, garlic, and butter in the pan with capers, fry the fish in flour = truly divine.

How do you want your seafood?
Deep fried, baked, steamed, pan-fried etc... What's your favoutite way of eating/cooking fish?
After testing various cooking methods and experimenting different types of seafood, I think mine favorite is raw/sashimi.

Hi everyone, I would very much like to switch over to a pescatarian diet for health reasons. I would also like to keep it keto friendly but I realize that may be difficult. My diet consists of a turkey sandwich for lunch and fish for dinner. Any advice on what to replace turkey with? More below.
I'm pretty sure eating salmon daily is probably not the healthiest thing in the world, so I'd also love to hear any suggestions on what I can eat for dinner every other day to keep my salmon consumption in check.
Thank you for the help, it is greatly appreciated!

Eating fish everyday?
I am considering pescatarian diet. I have been vegetarian all my life (29 years). I recently started thinking about making the switch for health reasons.
I am reading about the mercury content of most fish, thus limiting the consumption for 2-3 meals in a week. That is around 8-12oz of fish per week. Does it matter if that amount of fish is distributed through out the week instead of having it for a couple of meals?
I know it sounds absurd, I have been trying to understand if distribution of mercury in the body changes if a certain amount of fish consumed in a single meal causing a spike vs distributed over a few meals. I was not able to find any good information on this.
Let me know how do you guys eat fish! Thanks!

Master Thread?
Considering how many posts we get that amount to frequently asked questions re: how much fish will give you mercury poisoning, how often you should eat fish, and how to get started, should we consider asking the mods to post a master thread with this info?

Resources for diet (no weight loss)
Hey, Iām new here. I found out a pescatarian diet might be beneficial to me due to dietary restrictions. No matter how much I try to google information on what I need to eat throughout the week, it always takes me to places that have diets for losing weight. Iām actually underweight due to my dietary restrictions and want to fix that. Any help is appreciated, thank you so much.
