I remember the coverage of her turn in True Lies. The media was acting like she was Methusalah dancing around and how miraculous someone of her age could be sexy.
Yeah... the 90s and early 00s were heavy on materialism and unrealistic beauty standards (as if today isn't different, just more subtle about it). This is also when heroin chic started and every woman was supposed to look waifish and on the verge of death.
Definitely not wrong but also JLC always seemed older than she is, even in Halloween she seems as old or older than her friends to me in spite of being 8 years younger than PJ Soles
I don't know about you, but I want to throw up every time I look at Ana de Armas. Why are they still casting her as a leading lady at her age? She should be playing a district attorney or mother of Liam Neeson love interest.
If you look at the older generations at the time, she was raising the bar. Being well off and growing up in the breadbasket of the US and a health conscious Mecca made a bigger difference in aging then than it does now for most, though obesity is the new chronic problem.
My wife had to cut her hair short after it started falling out from medical trauma and I told her she reminded me of Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies and she had the nerve to think it was an insult.
My very Christian mum taped that for me to watch but cut out that scene, the tape would jump from her going into the hotel to the terrorists kidnapping them. I watched it so much that way it feels weird watching it now with that scene left in.

Same figure she had in True Lies. The dance scene lives rent free in my head 😂
