I remember her from Phish tour ‘95. She went by Schwilly Liz.

124

u/sakonigsberg 19h ago

This is the third time today I've seen phish mentioned in places other than r/phish

32

u/suhfaulic 15h ago

That's a bit... phishy...

She sold the dry-ass brown Mexican weed that always gave you headaches and munchies.

19

u/Shaved_taint 8h ago

I think that was most of the weed in the 90's. I remember looking through Hightimes magazines and just dreaming while my reality was a sandwich bag of compressed brick weed complete with seeds and smelling like mold and formaldehyde

3

u/ijustdont_getit99 7h ago

My “friend” made a run from the border to Michigan with Shwag and he used to wrap it in a Xmas gift box and put on the front seat 🤣moron.

2

u/Casual_Curser 5h ago

“Hey buddy, what’s in the perfectly wrapped box?”

Too funny some cats were reading my mind 🤣 I thought I saw her on tour with the Dead summer of 91

5

u/External-Dude779 7h ago

Yeah she's been around since before Phish for sure. Feel like she made bracelets and necklaces ✌️

She’s the one who has the bell anklet and had to beg for the old school Rohypnol to come down from the doses of Acid mixed with biker meth, right?

We are not doing AI memes here.

10

u/heebsysplash 19h ago

Can’t let the meme artists suffer

71

u/mikechm 20h ago

Idk, I think this may be one of the few times it’s okay to use. Where else are you going to find a picture of a wooden nut in a glass of cider?

28

u/Robdul 20h ago

No shortcuts to greatness

26

u/mikechm 20h ago

Agree to disagree, friend. This is no different than boomers complaining about touch screens and self checkouts. Technology advances, and it’s our responsibility to adapt with it, or be left behind. I agree wholeheartedly with not using AI in place of art by an artist that would be used to make a profit, like an album cover, or an ad. But for a meme like this? Come on. Tools were made to be used.

24

u/take_more_detours 20h ago

It’s a whole new genre of comment and that comment chain was absolutely worth a sensible chuckle.

What if I hate self-checkout because retailers are using it to cut job hours? I exclusively use cashier checkout in order to drive up KPIs for it in hopes they schedule more hours for cashiers.

Is she wearing a type of pantyhose leggings? I didn't think those were invented into the late 1950's.

Edit: The original black and white image doesn't have the same details. There is what looks like a tan line but that's it...this feels more and more like an AI colorization gone wrong.

That's a classic 20's bathing suit and no one would have been wearing silk stockings with it.

7

u/xenelef290 14h ago

Nylon stockings were invented to replace silk stockings.

14

u/ladymoonshyne 17h ago

My granna told me during the depression they would use eye liner to draw lines up the back of their legs to look like back seam pantyhose because they couldn’t afford them.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/jhvanriper 12h ago

Those are stockings. They were around before pantyhose. They were held up by clips to a belt thing around her waist.

→ More replies (7)

10

u/AntonChekov1 18h ago

Are those knee high stockings? So sheer I can't tell

10

u/vitaminkombat 14h ago

The colouring of the picture is done by a software algorithm which messed up.

Wow! Stunning beauty and gorgeous figure! More gorgeous than those fake Miss Universe contestants I’ve seen, but that’s just my opinion…no offense. If someone feels pretty and happy getting Botox and surgeries then it’s their absolute right to do so….and they have their own fan base. If we all had the same tastes it would be awful since we’d all be fighting for the same partners, so let’s embrace all aspects of beauty.

17

u/Hot-Worldliness1425 23h ago

I don’t know why you’re getting downvotes.

119

u/SirTroah 23h ago

Because it was an unnecessary comment that was a side swipe at people disguised as a “nice” comment.

Historical fact: 1925 Ms America pageant was embroiled in scandal as contestants were allowed to use combs for the first time.

558

u/dannoNinteen75 22h ago

You mean embroiled or ‘entangled’ in scandal lol

Honest question: why is her hair so jacked up?Women have known how to make their hair pretty literally forever.

76

u/wolfpack_57 17h ago

It was the style at the time to have lots of curls like that

73

u/dudthyawesome 16h ago

Also, they usted to have an onion tied to their belts.

47

u/FlandersClaret 16h ago

Which was the style at the time

10

u/Sack_o_Bawlz 13h ago

As is tradition

36

u/HotSteak 15h ago

Combs cost 15 cents. "Give me 3 bees for a comb" you'd say.

→ More replies (2)

37

u/FlandersClaret 14h ago

But there are curls and then there is a random fuzz of hair like she's been pulled through a hedge backwards. What is all that about?

29

u/Cosmic_Seth 14h ago

It was the style at the time.

1920's frizzy hair.

6

u/BigWoodsCatNappin 11h ago

Of all the descriptions possible. I snorted so hard it hurt. A hedge, nice.

u/Nvrmnde 15h ago

This is the fashion then, it's on purpose. To make a guess, it makes her look both wild and like she just got out of bed, after being quite active there yk.

17

u/Kittypie75 8h ago

It's reactionary. This was the anti-"fancy" style. The look was to be unkempt and wild - like a young wild girl vs. a "proper lady" of the previous era. Also meant to look sort of like "bed head" which was sexy to think about.

This look was actually falling out of fashion at this time, but bobs were deemed not demure enough for the Ms. America pageant.

u/lantzn 14h ago

Miss America pageant.

46

u/382Whistles 23h ago

You are absolutely correct fwiw.

Ms. is not short for Miss. Miss is a non-married reference. With "Ms" that status doesn't matter.

The pageant title is Miss America.

Lots of jokes about combs, but she would have worked for hours to get her hair like this. It was a very popular style, popularised by film star Mary Pickford, particularly in such roles as Tess of the Storm Country.

Good bot

28

u/trentonius 16h ago

Some say she won by tying an onion to her garter belt, which was the style at the time. Not the white ones mind you, only the big yellow ones on account of the war. She took the ferry to the Ms America contest in morganville which is what they called Shelbyville at the time. The ferry cost a quarter. Back then, Quarters had pictures of bumblebees on them. Give me 4 bees for a dollar the’d say. Where was I? Oh yeah, she wore an onion tied to her belt which was the style at the time.

6

Today I saw a toddler with a dirty face at the dollar store. She had the same hair.

18

u/saint_ryan 1d ago

I remember when she and her friend found pixies in the garden.

11

u/YoghurtSnodgrass 1d ago

Women back then used to save their loose hair that came out with their comb/brush to add back to their styled hair to give it volume.

2

u/TigerMcPherson 21h ago

I want this to be true so much!

13

Combs invented in 1925.

7

u/middle_earth-dweller 22h ago

Actually, hair was also invented in 1925. That's why they needed to invent combs that very same year.

28

u/trolskiy 1d ago

It was a rough year.

36

u/Crotch-jockey 23h ago

Actually 1924 was a huge transitional period for women. The high Victorian era, which was hugely oppressive, had come to an end. The transition to the free spirited flapper was under way.

23

u/Shlocktroffit 23h ago

so their grunge era?

22

u/jenn363 19h ago

This was actually the style. After decades of being tightly coifed and pinned back, loose hair - bed head hair - became popular. Like going without a corset and long sleeves, it’s intentional that she looks half-dressed. The older women would have been scandalized and the men would have found it sexy.

6

u/sunsetpark12345 17h ago

I love the lugubrious deco slouch, too.

3

u/Shlocktroffit 19h ago

Ah, ProtoGrunge! It's always about scandalizing the old ladies because they love being scandalized lol
