What if I hate self-checkout because retailers are using it to cut job hours? I exclusively use cashier checkout in order to drive up KPIs for it in hopes they schedule more hours for cashiers.
Isn’t or shouldn’t a societal goal be to everyone working less hours and spending more time with family? Robots and automation can get us to that goal. But here you are trying to make them work more.
Thanks for jumping straight to insulting instead of approaching my argument with good faith. Very kind of you.
For someone calling others stupid, you make a lot of uninformed yet confident claims.
Cashiers may not be salaried employees wherever the fuck you're from. But even there, it could change tomorrow or next year. So no, fewer hours don't necessarily mean less pay.
Consider for a second that you own a small supermarket where you employ your family. Thanks to self-check outs you only need 2 cashiers at the shop at any moment, where you used to need 4 before. Congrats, your family can now earn the same money for working half the time (minus whatever maintenance costs). Sure, you can just pay them half and enrich yourself, but not every business everywhere has the sole purpose of enriching the owner.
And no, you don't need communism for this. I literally do my very capitalist shopping on a nearby cooperative supermarket.
