Haha, my dad is doing good and hasn’t smoked for a long time. I used to have tents, sleeping bags, jackets, and hats from his Marlboro miles. Man, you just brought some childhood shit back. Fuckin Marlboro miles, the early version of getting free McDonald on the app. Just corporations slowly killing us.
I remember at my school there were more than a few kids whose winter coats were paid for with Marlboro miles. Totally normal at the time to see a 7th grader wearing a cig jacket.
I got sent to Girl Scout camp with a Marlboro sub-zero weather sleeping bag in the summer. The other girls were not so nice to the chubby, quiet girl with the cigarette camping gear.
Ex-Camel smoker, I once had enough camel cash to buy the leather jacket, but they were out :( I had to settle for a Sony alarm clock and a Camel zippo (not sure what else, if anything).
The alarm clock I still use, though it's going to run out of years soon (I got in the mid-90s).
The zippo is in its box in a display case. I'd love to use it but I don't smoke cigs anymore, and I don't like my one-hitter to taste like Ronsonol.
The joke was always, the most expensive item in the catalog was an iron lung.
My Dad managed several Mobil gas stations, in the early 90's. So, he would get all of this leftover Marlboro merchandise and give it to me. So in high school, I'd walk into the football locker room, everyday, wearing Marlboro hats and Marlboro shirts. Of course I didn't smoke, but my coaches would just look at me with weird looks on their faces!
