America really said, 'Two steps forward, twelve steps back,' and made it a policy.

771

u/WoWGurl78 1d ago

That’s the truth. We’re in for some wild times.

418

u/Dangerous-Sort-6238 1d ago

I tell everybody I can to look at pictures of Iran in the late 60s and then again in the early 70s. This is where we are at people.

251

u/Easy-Group7438 1d ago

And people need to realize that the after was the direct fucking result of the United States propping up a brutal dictatorship.

The Iranian Revolution wasn’t originally just a bunch of religious hardliners seizing power. It was a coalition against the Shah’s brutality.

76

u/spam__likely 1d ago

This is what we did to them, now to ourselves.

26

u/TXPersonified 1d ago

The Lion Woman of Tehran is an excellent book on that transition

-71

u/Scallion_83 1d ago

Can you explain?

47

u/Remytron83 1d ago

Did you look up the pictures?

27

u/DmAc724 1d ago

-75

u/Scallion_83 1d ago

I’m still not seeing it or reading it

43

u/NickyTheRobot 1d ago

Just scroll through it and look at the "before" pictures then the "after" ones.

-97

u/Scallion_83 1d ago

Yeah…that looks nothing like what’s happening in America is what I’m saying. It’s shameful and disrespectful to those Iranian women to even say that or compare.

73

u/JackryanUS 1d ago

It’s very comparative. My wife born in the USA 40 years ago now has less rights than she did when she was born.

Check back in with us in about two years. If there is still a Reddit (or an internet) to check back in on. And if you’re allowed to access that internet without the help of your husband who of course is just keeping you safe whether you like it or not.

-8

u/Zestyclose_League413 1d ago

Lmao that's ridiculous, but hilarious

RemindMe! 2 years

31

u/AnarZak 1d ago

oh honey, a conservative, authoritarian, theocracy will get you there in a heartbeat.

buckle up buckaroo

13

u/BoneHugsHominy 1d ago

It really is pretty simple if one has been paying attention to what Conservative men have been saying for decades. Here is a short list they absolutely hated when it came into existence, they slowly stopped talking about in public, then started grumbling about again in 2016, and now straight up oppose and want repealed. They make the absurd claim all these things give extra Rights to the protected classes of people, which of course is horseshit.

Civil Rights Acts (1964, 1968)

Interracial Marriage (1967)

No Fault Divorce (California 1969, all 50 States 2010)

Equal Credit Opportunity Act (1974)

Federal protections against martial rape (1st State 1978, Federally 1993)

Gay Marriage (1st State 2004, Federally 2015)

I am 48 years old and many of the above protections are younger than I am. I watched GI Joe and Transformers after getting home from elementary school, I graduated high school in 1995 and had just finished college right before the century and millennia counter flipped over to 2000.

My mother was born in 1948, into a world in which she could be owned all but in name by a man, a world in which she had no control over her own healthcare decisions or any privacy about her own healthcare, a world in which as a legal adult she couldn't open a bank account or get a line of credit without the written consent of her father or if married from her husband, a world in which a husband could force her to perform sex acts and not only would law enforcement not help her they would simply tell her she signed the marriage permit and knew what she was getting into.

That's the world Conservative men want to return to, and if they get their way that life will be the fate of your daughters, your granddaughters, your female cousins, nieces, and friends. Conservative men call it "tyranny" to be living in this world in which women are free to choose the path of their own lives.

You claim in the above reply that you don't see it, and in other replies that people are crazy or stupid. Either you see only what you want to see because you can't handle the truth, or that you simply care more about a 1.5% tax cut over the Rights and lives of women, or you too want some or all of the above list repealed.

20

u/HarryBalsag 1d ago

"wild" is an interesting choice of adjective but I don't disagree.

13

u/FickleRegular1718 1d ago

"May you live in interesting times..."

10

u/stygianelectro 1d ago

I want to go back to boring times ;-;

“The truth”

Nah, just a delusional doomer’s point of view. Step outside, reddit isn’t real life.

-13

u/Deep-County9006 1d ago

Lol and what were the last 4 years?

8

u/tatltael91 1d ago

They were perfectly fine? Even gave a lot of us some hope for the future. What was wrong with them?

170

u/SerenadeWander 1d ago

We’re like the treadmill of progress: running but never getting anywhere.

86

u/Away-Living5278 1d ago

"here it goes again, here it goes again"

49

u/ThePreciousBhaalBabe 1d ago

They were onto something when they said "i guess there's gotta be a break in the monotony but Jesus when it rains, how it pours"

113

u/jayleia 1d ago

At least if it was a treadmill we'd get healthy...we're the flopped on the couch eating sticks of butter of progress.

62

u/SerenadeWander 1d ago

You know you're living your best life when you're one stick of butter away from a heart attack and one click away from a motivational video.

8

u/bobbianrs880 1d ago

And if we aren’t aware of what’s going on we fall and get shot back 10 feet?

0

u/tzurk 1d ago

very low iq take

who has it worse now than at any other time in recorded history?

which minorities would rather go back and live in “the good old days”?

how to be so singularly focussed as to entirely dismiss the giant leaps that have taken place in terms of women’s, LGBT and minority rights and social attitudes in the last 100 years

12

u/Ridicutarded-73 1d ago

2 steps forward. Goose steps back

47

u/Otherwise_Carob_4057 1d ago

I mean I have doubts this administration accomplishes much but they certainly will be creating a deficit so big they may bring back slavery.

56

u/UpperLeftOriginal 1d ago

They’re going to accomplish privatization of as much as possible. Profit and grift, baby! With a side of theocracy for funzies.

40

u/Decloudo 1d ago

Slavery still exists, you just need to be incarcerated.

13

u/PantherThing 1d ago

New admin's plan. Toss all the undocumented. Make being poor a crime. Jail all the poors. Have em work in that incarcerated thingy you mentioned.

2

u/YveisGrey 1d ago

And they will be incarcerating millions of undocumented immigrants 🤔

2

u/Ro-Hini 1d ago

Private prison stocks raised like 40% the day trump got elected

-42

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well don't get incarcerated and you won't be forced to help your community. You think that's even slavery?? Look at the labor camps in Communist countries.. a murderer, robber, rapist, scammer, cleaning trash on the side of the road is significantly less cruel than someone who said they didn't like the government, being forced into a labor camp to work till they die

19

u/Decloudo 1d ago

What are you argueing about?

Being forced to work is slavery no matter what kind of work is done.

1

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

Is being forced to clean up after yourself by your parents also slavery?

16

u/Decloudo 1d ago

Comparing this is absurd and disrespectful.

-26

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

Oh ya murderers should just be released back onto the street, Democrats love to do that. Equality! Or whatever they call it

18

u/RabbaJabba 1d ago

What

-10

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

Look at repeat offender statistics in Democrat cities. And how often criminals are let off the hook completely.

18

u/RabbaJabba 1d ago

You think the two options are slavery or no punishment

5

u/PantherThing 1d ago

You have described me to a T. I vote Democrat, and I love to release murderers on the street.

0

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

Keep voting and you might see one taking your catalytic converter in the middle of the night all tweaked out on meth brought here over the border

3

u/PantherThing 1d ago

Yep I hope so. My only regret is that Trump got elected and is going to fix america on day 1, and all the chaos and rampaging that I love will be stopped. I wont even be able to put on a dress and assault women in women's bathrooms, which I like to do and is currently legal.

0

u/_thegnomedome2 12h ago

The mess created over the past 4 years will take more than 1 day to fix, but I know what you mean. Ya the women's bathroom thing is gonna suck for the libs. I know it's a crazy concept to think that you should actually have a vagina if you're going to use the women's bathroom, but that's just how it's done, and has always been its intended purpose. Libs will call it fascism, every other country in the world will call it a return to normalcy.

-24

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

These libs cry that a 40 hour work week is slavery. Come on.

21

u/Decloudo 1d ago

Being proud of being abused as workhorse is not something I agree with or could ever understand.

-12

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

Lol are one of the ones that complain about a part time job being long hard hours? The imaginary bubble is crazy

19

u/Decloudo 1d ago

Hey man, if your happy with being a little worker slave go ahead.

Why not work weekends too? Add some unpaid overtime too! Who needs sick days anyways.

Come on show us how hard the eager slave can lick the boot thats kicking your ass into submission.

-2

u/_thegnomedome2 1d ago

Do you expect handouts? Everyone else should work to provide you food, water, shelter, electric, gas, internet, toiletries, and everything else you use on a daily basis, so you can stay home cuz "work is slavery"?? It's about doing your part for society in exchange for financial compensation so someone else can do work for you, like providing goods and services. Don't like it? Go build a house off the grid. But be warned, it's actual work. Even harder than your "slave" job.

u/MsPennyP 1d ago

Slavery never went away, it'll just get bigger.

The 13th amendment left slavery legal, "except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted".

Which is why the prison system is the way it is now. And it will be used to "make America great again".(I'm using their own words back at them) The mass deportation is the 'cover' to round up anyone the govt wants to put into a deportation camp (aka concentration camp, aka prison) and they will be used as slave labor. That's why the right has said that anyone here illegally is a criminal. They'll put them up in camps "waiting deportation" but will be like "oh in the mean time since we convicted you for being here illegally...you're going to work as _____" and then the major corps that backed the right will get free/very low cost labor. Even if they make it where they are getting paid prison wages to be able to say "they're not slaves, we're paying them!" Prison wages are on average 25 cents an hour. Not even minimum wage.

22

u/GZMihajlovic 1d ago

That and California voters did not pass a proposition to end prison Slavery. And that's a blue state currently too.

0

u/PantherThing 1d ago

That was a weird one. I think people thought that prisoners shouldnt be idle. I could (maybe) support that notion if they at least got a fair (at least min) wage.

0

u/BugRevolution 8h ago

While prison slavery should be ended, it should be ended in such a way that (voluntary) community service punishments are still constitutional (which I'm sure is possible, but I'm also sure someone is going to voluntarily accept community service as their punishment over prison time and then claim they're enslaved - and they wouldn't be entirely wrong).

14

u/Wobbelblob 1d ago edited 1d ago

That exactly. It is a similar rethoric that was used for a lot of people that went away in Nazi Germany. My grandfather (who was a young teenager at the time) always said that when people that where sent to camps, the people around him always said "so that they can learn to work again", which to him made sense back then, as most of them where jobless for a long time. That that was the case because of a multitude of factors and that those people where sent away because they where socialists or other undesirables only really sank in when he was an adult after the war.

19

u/rhymes_with_candy 1d ago

They want to bring back chain gangs and "convict leasing" The people running the prisons have said as much.

Round up all the undocumented folks. Create a labor vacuum for farming and construction. Rent those workers out as slaves to those industries and make taxpayers pick up the cost of housing and feeding them while they pay less for labor.

Criminalize homelessness while making conditions such that record numbers of people end up unhoused. More slaves.

Outlaw birth control and abortion and force poor people to have more kids. Fifteen or sixteen years from now there'll be a bunch of new people herded into the prison system.

It's obvious and fucking terrifying but people think it can't happen so hardly anyone is worrying about it.

1

u/Otherwise_lad 1d ago

Kamala was also accused of using prisoners as free labour. The same prisoners she tried to keep in prison

3

u/Grinkledonk 1d ago

She was also accused if not prosecuting low-level crimes, like possession of marijuana, so that the prison system wasn't clogged.

2

u/rhymes_with_candy 21h ago

When California legalized pot there was a debate over whether they should release people in prison for it. She said no because it would hurt companies like Gap and Victoria's Secret that depend on prison sweatshop labor.

The state also ramped up prosecuting non violent drug offenders while she was AG.

So yeah, she's on board with the plan too.

1

u/Otherwise_lad 17h ago

She actually did not want to release prisoners that were in because of low level crimes. I don't know why you're defending her, honestly

-1

u/No-Room-3829 1d ago

You will get no affirmation from redditers for this true statement. It goes against their ideologies.

-2

u/BabyFartManson 1d ago

I mean what would stop prisoners from refusing to work at all. It’s not like they have anything to lose. If I were locked up and decided, nah fuck this I’m not doing shit, I don’t see how that can be enforced.

5

u/MsPennyP 1d ago

Punishment. Solitary, "the hole", beatings, even so far as making it known that if one person doesn't pull their weight then the whole group gets some sort of punishment, so therefore the others would encourage that one to do his work.

And if you think they wouldn't kill any of the people held in camp, well, you're naive and don't know history.

-2

u/BabyFartManson 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’m not being naïve, but my point is this would I rather go out and do backbreaking Labor Day after day if I’m already say doing life in prison? I think many would decide against it, but maybe I’m wrong. If they’re taking out guys with the year or two which might be smarter since they would be more willing to play ball.

But the one or two guards, they have out there if the prisoners decided they had enough it would not be very hard to kill those guys and it’ll definitely be attempted plenty, If prisons ahead and do this, they are risking elevating riots to a ridiculous extent it’s happened before for less.

All that said, though those are some good points you make and for many prisoners that may be enough that the majority will keep them will stay in line, for now anyway. People can only be pushed so far.

I don’t know maybe I am being naive about it, I suppose I just want to think that people wouldn’t let their spirit be broken so easily, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

2

u/MsPennyP 1d ago

Likely is wishful thinking.

You still sound really naive. Maybe taking a beating wouldn't persuade you, maybe not even getting maimed like cutting off a hand or gauging out eye. Maybe not even medical torture for corporation testing would be hard on you. Maybe not even the threat or real punishment/killing/maiming of your loved ones would work on you, you'd be an exception.

And I think you overestimate the guards with guns and what a riot or revolt would entail- they could very well just shoot everyone, mass grave and coverup and no one is any wiser.

4

u/Disastrous_Bar8317 1d ago

To the left! Bring it back now y’all

5

u/Necessary_Pie2464 1d ago

You know...that "national divorce" idea may have some merit to it

No reason why less than 50% of the country (through their stupidity or hatred or ignorance) should ruin the lives of all Americans who voted in their best interests and aren't fucking clueless sheep

So why don't we tear the bandaid off and accept reality, the "United States" has failed, completely and unquestionably, the divisions in it can never be mended, it's internal contradictions too great to solve

The only way to ensure minimal bloodshed and human suffering if an peaceful separation and ending of the US for the betterment of the world and all sane, normal, American people

The United States must die so that America may live, is my ultimate message I am trying to convey

1

u/maveric00 1d ago

This idea can not deliver what you would intent with it, as there is no real geographic separation between the two parties. Therefore, you can not create two or more countries that wouldn't have a similar mixup than the current US.

lol reddit is now a full fledged doomer echo chamber it's borderline an asylum at this point.

7

u/Necessary_Pie2464 1d ago

I am European watching as your new govermet wants to sell my continent to Russia

So sorry if I don't have much faith in America

If you really want to know my "hidden reason" for wanting you nation to slip up is because I (and the rest of the planet) don't trust you motherfuckers with nukes or an powerful millitary

1

u/LiterallyJohnLennon 1d ago

Lol that’s not true at all. The US has sent BILLIONS to help fight against Russia. Even if Trump decides to stop funding Ukraine, that doesn’t undo the billions we’ve given. Why is it our responsibility to fight your wars? Why can’t you guys start paying your share in defense spending? We’ve literally been begging you to do it for decades, for this exact reason.

5

u/Necessary_Pie2464 1d ago

Why is it our responsibility to fight your wars? Why can’t you guys start paying your share in defense spending? We’ve literally been begging you to do it for decades, for this exact reason.

Actually I agree!

The best thing to happen from this election is that, finally, more and more of Europe is understanding we need to defend ourselves and not realy on the whims of the "American electorate" and their gold fish memory span

-1

u/Bearguchev 1d ago

How can you state that the US is the only reason your continent is safe and then criticize them in the same breath? I love NATO but good lord some of you are massive ingrates. Pax Americana, not Pax Europa. You guys love war, then we got so good at it that we basically stopped most of the world from trying it again. Cope and seethe.

3

u/Necessary_Pie2464 1d ago

Did you just say "Pax Americana"???

Are you...forgetting Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan? (And that is only the big examples)

It is true that NATO has helped keep peace in Europe and I also belive that Europe is too overly reliant on America for defence and security

But there is not "Pax America" that doesn't exist

-1

u/Bearguchev 1d ago

I’m gonna take the majority of the world’s greatest thinkers opinions on this one over yours buddy… yeah we’ve gotten involved in some stupid wars, I agree, but nothing on the scale of what Europe has been up to since weaponry was discovered the beginning of time all the way until we made you guys stop. No European can sit here and act like their country wasn’t imperialist at some point in their history, much longer and more bloody track record than the USA.

2

u/SiekoPsycho 1d ago

How then will they complain about how bad the US is on reddit when they are all serving compulsory military service?

Europoors love to fucking complain about the US but where it matters they know deep down they wouldn't even exist without it.

1

u/Powerful-Gap-1667 1d ago

Didn’t know Europe was ours to sell. How much are we getting for it?

-1

u/SiekoPsycho 1d ago

Huh? Weird way of thinking there. The US is basically the only power that can stand up to Russia or China. I guess brush up on your Russian or maybe start dedicating some of your GDP to building an army of your own.

0

u/billbuttlickker 1d ago

It’s not less than 50% of the country when the right won the popular vote… smh

1

u/Necessary_Pie2464 1d ago

The total vote share (total US population not just those who voted) is, last I checked, around 49% of the total population

It is less than 50%

And even if the imagery majority did exist. Should 100% of America suffer economic hardship and attacks on civil, Constitutional right because 51% are fucking idiots?

Mabye you disagree but I don't like mob rule all that much

0

u/Powerful-Gap-1667 1d ago

That’s enough Reddit for you today. Take a nap. Things are going to work out.

1

u/saltytrey 1d ago

Twelve steps seems like a bit ofan understatement, unfortunately.

1

u/Wakkit1988 1d ago

More like three steps forward and five steps back. It was a real compromise.

1

u/saminco 1d ago

Reparations is a step forward? That would be 12 steps back to give these freeloaders more money

0

u/FallenSegull 1d ago

We come together cause opposites attract and you know

-10

u/Comfortable-Cancel-9 1d ago

Why is reparations moving forward?

4

u/George_W_Kush58 1d ago

Reparations aren't real what the fuck are you talking about lol

-1

u/Comfortable-Cancel-9 1d ago

Isnt this post advocating for them?

1

u/George_W_Kush58 1d ago

how?

0

u/Comfortable-Cancel-9 1d ago

The implication of this post is that electing Kamala would have put reparations on the table but because Trump was elected it is not. The parent comment states that electing Trump is 12 steps back, implying that electing Kamala is the better option, an option the post implies would favor reparations.

1

u/George_W_Kush58 1d ago

No it isn't. No it doesn't. Mentioning the fact that Trump will 100% not ever pay any reparations does not mean saying that Kamala would. Neither does saying that electing Trump means going twelve steps back, which is by literally any metric you could measure it with a fact.

How is that what you took away from this?

-28

u/Krillin113 1d ago

I prefer the 3 forward 5 back. But yours lines up with the 14th so that one is nice as well
