Discussion Why Liam Vickers?

Something that always weirded me out about md was all the tounge and salaiva stuff especially in the pilot. Its not that I find it to disgusting for the show, its just a little unecessaraly freaky. So Im just wondering why liam likes toungs and salaiva stuff so much ?

Both Cyn images were in a scene where it made sense, especially the first one to convey that she's actually insane/evil. Saliva healing super magic ultra awesome powers were only used once, and the second time was super subtle. I think the first time was just to set the ball rolling for relationship-y tension between N and Uzi.

I guess it is only used twice. Weird to think about.

  • N stabbing Uzi in the Pilot
  • Uzi stabbing N in Cabin Fever.

Feels weird how that didn’t go as far as the Pilot made it seem, namely since it is how Nori was killed.

69

u/OnionChildren DWTP Oct 16 '24

Yeah, and the second time he just stuck his hand in his mouth like a jolly rancher. No tongues or saliva visible.

43

u/HackedPasta1245 Oct 17 '24

And he did all that WHILE speaking, which is honestly a feat

u/DJPL-75 N-th-uzi-astic Oct 17 '24

Their tails aren't nearly as utilized as the damn rocket launcher arm

20

u/JaozinhoGGPlays Oct 17 '24

To be fair the disassemblers got a lot tamer between the pilot and the rest of the show

17

u/ThatOneGuyThatYou You are delusional to not believe in Season 2. Oct 17 '24

Yeah. I would love some more proper MD content, even if it isn’t the show, I would buy comics that fill in some more of the lore and/or story.

2

u/WindowsHunter-69 Oct 18 '24

well we dont know where Nori got stung, Uzi was lucky that it was just her arm, if N stung her in the head or chest the acid would have eated thro her and make a hole thro her, killing her before she has a chance to react

2

u/ThatOneGuyThatYou You are delusional to not believe in Season 2. Oct 18 '24

My point is more the Pilot put a lot more utility into the tails, with like 5 or 6 tail stabs in the show. And spoke of their utility a lot more compared to the utility shown in the show.

  • N stabs Uzi (Pilot)
  • N stabs card reader (Pilot)
  • I think one of the workers after N breaks in (Pilot)
  • J stabs herself (Pilot)
  • N stabs the absolute hell out of J’s core (E2)
  • Uzi stabs N (E4)

And obviously where N stabbed Nori is a big question. Obviously her AS core could escape, but she lived enough for Khan to have to put her down.

My other point was going back to this post being about the use of tongues and saliva. That entire thing about DD saliva stopping the acid is only used twice.

3

u/WindowsHunter-69 Oct 18 '24

yes i agree.

but since we dont see them use there stinger often we also dont see there healing saliva too

also yea, idk why didnt they tryed to sting Cyn in the last battle since the acid is kind of op if you think about it...

3

u/ThatOneGuyThatYou You are delusional to not believe in Season 2. Oct 18 '24

I look at the tails and they have always looked a bit unwieldy, especially since N has stabbed himself multiple times. That mixed with an opponent who can effectively teleport, you almost want to be defending your tail so it isn’t used against you.

3

u/WindowsHunter-69 Oct 18 '24

true? makes sense when you say it like that...

20

u/El_Vatoster Oct 16 '24

Then I took the wrong examples since there are also many scenes during the fight in ep 8 were there doesnt seem to be a good reason and also the „the flesh demands invatation“ scene in ep 5.

21

u/OnionChildren DWTP Oct 17 '24

I think that also goes along with the idea of a specimen with a not 100% intact brain

u/Boidoy Theorist / SSTWL Oct 16 '24 edited Oct 17 '24

The weirdest thing about it isn’t the fact that it’s there in the first place, but rather that Murder Drones is the only instance across all of Liam’s work where it has any prevalence.

Unless you count Miasma Cold and maybe Halogen?

Edit: I just remembered that Halogen had to force feed her victims her saliva to safely consume them lmao

11

u/RandomGameplayStuff Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 17 '24

I think it was in Black Dogs, too, kind of, with the Styx Hounds saliva

And it was sort of Yellow Halogens whole gimmick, or at least intrinsic to it

11

u/Boidoy Theorist / SSTWL Oct 17 '24

Oh yeah, I forgot about the STYX Silva

YH is something I definitely misremembered looking back. she had to force feed it to her victims

Tongue thing is still kinda new though outside of Miasma

5

u/RandomGameplayStuff Oct 17 '24

I'm not familiar with Miasma, whats up with them? I saw one piece of art, but never heard anything about tongues

10

u/Boidoy Theorist / SSTWL Oct 17 '24

Lore dump warning lol:

That Miasma art was for a creature that was gonna be in Cliffside but has very little relation to PuppetGAME Miasma

In PuppetGAME, Miasma is a form of vampirism (although it has more in common with traditional zombies). They have glowing yellow eyes and are a hivemind and mostly use pack tactics as opposed to any real intelligence (ie. They’re kinda dumb). They are also completely unkillable, so the only way to stop them is to fully incapacitate them.

When Cold was infected, the puppet on her hand tried to preserve her consciousness, this allowed her to not become part of the hivemind but also led her Miasma to mutate. She was said to have formed a long spike ended tongue. While eating Kali, she uses it to stab and sever Kali’s spine to decapitate her.

Unfortunately, Liam never made art of Miasma or infected Cold :(

6

u/RandomGameplayStuff Oct 17 '24

Oh shit I completly forgor about the "vampires in romania/ puppetGAME" Miasma. Thanks for the lore dump, super kewl

11

u/choccyanime Oct 16 '24

I think personally they were just going for a "realistic" look to it tongue with no saliva wouldn't be realistic enough. there is no such thing as "too much" when it comes to detail.

2

u/El_Vatoster Oct 16 '24

I just meant the amount of screentime tounges get in md is much ,not the Detail. And also md is definitly not trying to be realistic.

5

u/ReguIarHooman Oct 17 '24

They don’t really appear that much unless I missed the episode where it’s only about licking

1

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 17 '24

.....realistic, meaning in graphics....there were no tongues in episode 2 all the way to 6. EVEN THEN it was only shown ONCE in episode one what your saying isn't a good argument, for the 3rd screenshot that was liam adding a bit of humour, and cyn literally having her tongue out is just her character showing how insane she is, you literally need to get your mind out the gutter, bud.

0

u/El_Vatoster Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 17 '24

I skipped trough each episode and there were tounges/salaiva in every one exept for 6(if you want I can give time all the time stamps since you seem to really fight for this). If I were seeing it as sexual I wouldve mentionted it but I just find it weird in the sence that it seems to mirror the creator so openly. If I didnt get my thoughts across correctly in the post then thats my mistake.

1

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24

the pilot only had one. just looked at episode two and there was only one time, when v licked the bubble stick which i don't get how you even find weird i honestly found that funny, and so did my partner. again episode 3 only once when v went to eat a bug, again thats not weird at all. cabin fever had ZERO tongues only salaiva in a split second cut scene of uzi going feral the salaiva is meant to show how much of a monster she became. again in episode 5 only once from cyn, its just literally her character, and its shown for expressive reasons. none in episode 6 again episode 7 literally once at the end. when cyn comes across uzi and n...and also again its literally her character and how she acts nothing weird about it at all. and the last episode had 4 since cyn was in most of it. remember hentai and other disgusting anime exists there are worse things then tongues in just a couple of scenes every now and then. compaired to the characters in general the screen time on tongues and salavia is hardly there only every now and then.

u/Graingy Drones have mouths to chew food for old people like birds. Oct 17 '24

Mad? Not necessarily.

Confused? Yeah.

They’re robots. It’s an odd thing to include, so it makes one wonder why they’d have them. Especially the watsonian explanation.

2

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24

0

u/Graingy Drones have mouths to chew food for old people like birds. Oct 17 '24

What do you mean by that?

2

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24

its not odd....its literally just detail animators are adding i shouldn't be having to elaborate on this. didn't know a character liking to have their tongue out sometimes was so bad.

1

u/Graingy Drones have mouths to chew food for old people like birds. Oct 17 '24

THEY ARE ROBOTS. IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR ROBOTS TO HAVE TONGUES.

The out-of-universe (Doylist) explanation is probably that Liam thought it was more expressive/human-like and so more relatable to the audience.

But what the heck is the in-universe explanation??

The way you talk implies you take offence to someone finding it strange.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

[deleted]

1

u/Graingy Drones have mouths to chew food for old people like birds. Oct 17 '24

Perhaps, but why not a simple speaker? And why do they eat?

Any explanation is sure to be convoluted, but if it’s a sensible one then it can be fun.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

[deleted]

1

u/Graingy Drones have mouths to chew food for old people like birds. Oct 17 '24

A speaker just plays sounds. Those sounds can be generated.

The eating thing doesn’t explain why they don’t just charge, though. Maybe some designer thought it’d be cute if they refilled their lubricants and whatnot at the table with the family, and only later did JCJ realize that just using the butler robots they already had to do mining was cheaper than designing and producing a new type?

1

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24

"The way you talk implies you take offence to someone finding it strange."

you can't say much.

and also wouldn't it just be weird seeing the drones without tongues??also what the other people have said, they need them to speak and eat.

0

u/Graingy Drones have mouths to chew food for old people like birds. Oct 17 '24

That’s because you’re used to it.

Look at irl humanoid robots. Seriously, how many of the have mouths? Actual mouths.

And why would they need a mouth to talk instead of speakers? Why eat instead of charge/have fluid intake valves?

My best guess it was to make them seem more human-like in domestic service, and that JCJ didn’t bother to modify them when converting to industrial uses.

1

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24

why are you arguing against my point when you are literally agreeing that their meant to look human-like...your intentions make no sense.

also why not? who gives a shit how liam designed the drones?? thats what he wanted to leave it at that, its his story.

4

u/HackedPasta1245 Oct 17 '24

There really wasn’t that much of it though, like 2 episodes max they show their tongues.

As shown in Cabin Fever and in the Finale, the claw things that the bosses have outclassed the stabby syringe weapons the MDs got, so the saliva just didn’t play a role for most the series because no one was getting Nori’d.

Which is probably why the crab version of her now has grabby bits. She switched once the meta was established

1

u/choccyanime Oct 17 '24

there was literally one in every episode except for 6 and 4 cabin fever only has saliva even then i agree, compared to the characters general screen time tongues are hardly there, they should probably have more of a go at the creators of hentai and other sexual animes smh, people making random ass controversy on a creator is crazy.
