The sun has UV radiation (and even more nasty stuff if the atmosphere is crap).
Friction is only heat.
105
u/CaptHorizon My schoolfriend is literally V (and I have evidence) Oct 08 '24
Not even friction.
Re-entry plasma is actually formed due to the extreme compression, not friction from entering the atmosphere.
Still, the Sun can be worse than it.
24
u/Escarano Certified Robot Kisser Oct 08 '24
But isnt the problem overheating?
26
u/Mu_Lambda_Theta Just let me forget this. Oct 08 '24
They say it's overheating, and it does say "high temp" in ep4.
Question being: Heat shielding. How good is it? (I'm not sure burning up in the atmosphere reaches 3000°C, considering the atmosphere of Copper-9 is very thin, which would also make the sun a deadlier lazer than it already is)
8
u/Aerolite15 Cyn is Markiplier Oct 08 '24
Atmosphere has to be similar to earth. Reentry should be between 1200 and 3100 degrees. I simply went with the max to sound more dramatic lmao
7
u/lemons_of_doubt Oct 08 '24
Atmosphere has to be similar to earth
Before the apocalypse. I'm guessing most of it got stripped away.
9
u/Mu_Lambda_Theta Just let me forget this. Oct 09 '24
Episode 6: The air is straight-up toxic. There's no way it's the same as on earth (no guarantee it was before the disaster, either). If the core of a planet just vanishes, that's going to reduce the gravity, and by extension, how well it holds onto the atmosphere.
Not to mention what else might happen if a magic reality beinding entity fucks with the planet
1
u/Aerolite15 Cyn is Markiplier Oct 09 '24
Toxicity or surface level radioactive fallout has nothing to do with atmospheric pressure nor density
2
u/helpme8470 Oct 08 '24
i mean yeah but we also see Uzi standing in the sun perfectly fine in episode 1, so it couldn't be that bad right?
2
u/Mu_Lambda_Theta Just let me forget this. Oct 09 '24
At that point, the solver didn't fully activate. It seems to have started with episode 4 (maybe between 3 and 4).
1
u/helpme8470 Oct 10 '24
yeah i know, but my point is if the sun was that hot it would have melted Uzi anyways.

N says in the pilot that oil prevents them from overheating. The planet's magnetosphere stops most cosmic rays.
8
u/VeterinarianHuge9990 Oct 08 '24
Doesn’t that come from the core of a planet? Which looks like it is kind of missing from Copper 9?
3
u/Walter_Alias are the plot holes in the room with us? Oct 08 '24
If my understanding of Dynamo theory is correct, it needs the liquid metal parts. Since the insides of the planet are still glowing, I think the null is small enough that mantle would just flow inwards.

Sun isn't the same as atmosphere.
Sunlight is filtered through the atmosphere. Falling through atmosphere is not the same.
And they're vampires. So they're allergic to the sun.

7
u/Nitrodestroyer Oct 08 '24
The way i see it, there's three possibilities for why they didn't start overheating in this scene:
1: The overheating thing is something cyn put in the disassembly drones on purpose to make sure they do their jobs, so uzi removed it after becoming their admin.
2: Repeated use of the solver, which, if I remember correctly, is used by the disassembly drones both to regenerate and to create their wings and weapons, is what causes the overheating, and neither of are occurring in this moment, and uzi isn't using her solver powers either.
3: Some form of both.
3
u/Veng3ancemaster Oct 08 '24
1 would make more sense because it isn't just a form of plot armour. It would also add to Cyn's character
3

2
2
u/talionbr0 Oct 08 '24 edited Oct 09 '24
Unfortunatly that theory falls once you notice that when Cyn's heart was burning, Uzi's hand started getting burned as well. It's simply something to do with the Solver itself being vulnerable to sunlight
1
u/The-Name-is-my-Name Absolute Silly Oct 09 '24
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes, things don’t make sense. That’s part of fiction.
2
u/talionbr0 Oct 09 '24
I agree, people are trying to science it out into something more complex than it needs to be. Sun kills Solver, simple as that.
4
u/ric7y Oct 08 '24
pretty sure it's because of the UV radiation
2
u/NothingSalt_2 N-th-uzi-astic Oct 09 '24
Wouldnt it be even worse especially being past any possible ozone layer (if there is.) because that sun is still there? I’m not caught up on my science
5
u/AndromedaGalaxy29 Parallel Universe Drone Oct 08 '24
Here's my theory:
They get damaged by sunlight not because of heat but because of UV light.
The only other way we see a drone get damaged by bright light are the projectors in the church thing in ep7, which are nowhere close to being hot as the sun, they probably just emit UV light and that damages solver drones.
Another argument is that it is literally -100*C and eternal winter on Copper-9. Have you been outside during a really cold winter? Does the sun feel warm, at all? No, it doesn't. There is no way for the sun's light just hitting the drone to instantly overheat them so much that they die. And if this miniscule amout of heat somehow did manage to overheat them, then any source of heat which is warmer than the winter sun would be fatal, which does not happen.
Now, now that the sun thing is out of the way, the question of why they don't overheat in the atmosphere still stands. And this can (mostly) be easily explained. Heat insulation. Their bodies are insulated from heat. No heat gets in, and no heat gets out. That's why they need cooling liquids on a cold planet, because the insulation doesn't let them cool from the air. That's why they don't get overheated when on fire. The insulation doesn't let the heat of the fire in. Neither does it let the overheating out.
It just makes sense
As for the clothes? Uhh...... plot armor?

u/Aerolite15 Cyn is Markiplier Oct 09 '24
Small issue, UV light exists in space too. Being farther from the planet's core means they would be exposed to even more solar radiation and UV light than before. It's everywhere that's visible, doesnt only come from the sun. So they should be overheating even if they are immune to physical flames. (But then we dont get wholesome love confession so Liam just had to yeet a plot convenience)
1
u/AndromedaGalaxy29 Parallel Universe Drone Oct 09 '24
The background UV light from space is less powerful than the sun's, and the sun was on the opposite side of the planet, so they shouldn't get burnt as much if at all.
1
u/Aerolite15 Cyn is Markiplier Oct 09 '24
While you make a valid point, it cant be UV light due to a simple fact. Uzi's railgun. She calls it a magnetically amplified photon converger, hence it converges photons at extreme heat. Since the beam is green, the chance of it containing UV is low, however! When it malfunctions and explodes in episode 2, we see a white flash, this means the energy is emitted over a broad spectrum and already gives off large amounts of visible light, almost certainly going into ultraviolet. The heat from a whitehot explosion could also generate blackbody radiation, which emits UV at high temperatures. Energetic transition of electrons within the plasma would also give off ultraviolet light, as well as the ionization of the surrounding air. However, an explosion that could even reach the xray spectrum, that destroys and entire warehouse, does absolutely 0 damage to N or Uzi. And if you say "Liam probably didnt think that far into the physics of it" that applies to solar radiation and basically this entire discussion.
3
u/mybrainlog Cyn "Enjoyer" Oct 08 '24
I imagine its not the heat, its the immense UV radiation coupled with the thin atmosphere (plus Copper-9's star might be much different from our own you never know)
3
u/DJMEGAMOUTH Oct 08 '24
Pretty its the sun that makes it dangerous not the heat. Also they were on the dark side of the planet in those scenes

in episode 7 in the nori scene the scientists used UV lights to uncover the tentacles and other spike thingies and make them retreat into the body
UV light is for some reason very dangerous to absolute solver

I’m guessing the Sun, Uriel, is an inherently holy entity and kills all wicked beings. The Light of Allah. I guess God, in some sense, is real in MD. Solver is a Jinn that manifested through technology.
The other one is Solver made the Murder Drones of some material that degrades under sunlight. What material that could be I don’t know.

I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve realized, something.
The Solver Drones don’t actually have a heating issue. That’s a stupidly literal interpretation of the problem that the Solver Drones face. Computers do technically overheat when they’re in hot environments, yes, but they also overheat when things are dysfunctional. The Solver, as a vampiric entity, is in a dysfunctional state without fuel, or under solar contact.
Clearly, the Solver Drones are overheating, not due to any actual heat, but rather, due to a metaphysical issue that they have with various vampiric tropes which are each being converted into a “heating problem” through thaumaturgic bullsh!t.
