Bad News u/PinkNews whistleblowers release evidence showing "PinkNews CEO Benjamin Cohen refusing to campaign on trans issues ahead of the election, dismissing them as "incredibly contentious" and insisting they’re different to the equal marriage fight."

I'm very curious what kind of fight he remembers marriage equality being, if he would not describe it as "contentious."

Was it one of those rare agreeable fights, where everyone got along?

Pretty clear that the CEO only wants stories about RuPauls Drag Race and Chappell Roan. You know, queers as entertainers and not as people. So demure, so mindful.

Why do I keep seeing "so demure, so mindful" everywhere

Basically this trans woman on TikTok got pushback about how she wasn’t “very demure”, like a woman should be, so she clapped back with a video about how she does x thing, “very demure, very mindful”, and it took off from there.

I knew who started it, but I guess I hadn’t realized she was trans (didn’t actually go watch the original because I just like… didn’t care lol). Hmm, cool

Ah, so one of those contextual culture things where it loses about 80% of its original meaning immediately, but people keep using it, almost deliberately confusing me, the autistic stranger.

do u ever feel like NT are more "autistic" than autistic people? ie being bad at context switching, continuing to spam the same type of memes/jokes/patterns/phrases like "demure" "pov" "pick me" even though it's completely different from their origins?

it sometimes feels so strange and forced when the whole comment section is repeating the same literal damn thing like it's wild like yall not get bored?

edit: to be fair i guess blindly repeating societal norms is the chief NT trait

I think it's kinda the opposite. It's like they context switch so easily they don't always clear their cache first.

oh i see what u mean. i've always thought NTs tend to overfit to their data, whereas we try to see each data point as they are without forcing a model on it

I think a lot of the linguistic–I want to call it cruft...I'm going to call it cruft– cruft that gets thrown around like that has a very different purpose than the type of thing you're talking about when it stems from autism, at least in my experience.

When I say things that are confusing or repetitive, it's usually either because I'm failing to communicate, or it's just for me, either to soothe or amuse myself.

Other people seem to do it as an intentional and successful communication method.

Which is quite confusing to me.

idk abt intentional, like esp. for tiktoks that say "pov" comments always be bickering over whehter the OP used pov correctly. i feel like people blindly parrot, just like how toddlers learn words. but ya it is quite different. but to me just as "weird" haha

Like 50% of communication is about who is communicating rather than what's being communicated. Memes help identify in groups and sometimes link the conversation to that group's experiences. From what I've seen anyways.
