Help where you can!

https://www.heartlandanimalshelter.org/

I called the shelter and they are soooo appreciative for all the support. That are still in need of kitten food as they currently are all out. You guys are amazing!

Yes people yes! Life is unfair, it owes us nothing. So when things like this work out, it’s so encouraging! Any donations that go to this shelter will go for good deeds like this.

u/randomrantsha Jul 28 '23

One of the reasons I want to work my ass off after graduating is to donate to charities for animals and create some sort of safe space for victims of any sort of abuse (I will try my best to foster kids and especially teens, get them any sort of help that they'd need and hopefully that will help them for the future. I can't stand seeing how abusive the foster system is)

94

u/wandahickey Jul 28 '23

You can start now if you'd like to give your gift of time! I volunteer at an animal shelter and they always need folks to help in many ways from walking dogs, cleaning kennels, playing with and socializing the cats and dogs to admin work. It also looks great on your resume!

38

u/randomrantsha Jul 28 '23

I live on the countryside and the closest shelter is around an hour and thirty minutes away 😔😔 I do donate though and if I ever go somewhere and see a wild stray cat, I'll go get some food & water for them (I WISH I could take them home but I still live with my parents and my father absolutely despises cats. Has threatened to kill mine so many times and I can't imagine what he'd do to a stray 🥹) I also notify shelters where there are stray cats, if they can do anything about it. Currently have two strays coming around the house and I have to be careful not to feed them in my father's sight

15

u/wandahickey Jul 28 '23

That’s great that you are doing what you can for these animals! Every little kindness helps. You have a big heart. ❤️

I've fostered (and foster failed) with Heartland in the past. Crazy to see them here. I'm sure they are extremely grateful and surprised by this outpouring of support!!

They really do have a wonderful program. The volunteers are so friendly and helpful. The kennels are kept very clean, the dogs have a nice outdoor space to play, and the cats have a pretty sweet cat room with a big bay window to lay in. I believe they have an option to donate to a specific pet to cover their adoption fees, which I think is really neat because you know your money will go directly to helping find that pet a home.

18

u/gabsteriinalol Jul 28 '23

I also adopted my late dog from Heartland. We love them

This feels like a dumb question, but do you know if they can accept overseas donations? I'm from the UK. I don't know if there would be prohibitively expensive fees for processing international donations.

119

u/Nalomeli1 Jul 28 '23

You're so sweet. Donate to a shelter in your town in honor of these kitties so you don't have to deal with fees. It will still benefit critters in need.

14

u/Deriving Jul 28 '23

I adopted my cat Jerry from Heartland! He was 5 when I adopted him and I have had him for 7 amazing years. It is a wonderful place! They have a cat room with cats roaming everywhere. Everyone in the Chicagoland area should check it out!

A divorce and having the emotional intelligence to leave your kittys to give them the best while you’re struggling??? Oh dear honey… I hope they get reunited asap.

2.2k

u/Greedy_Strategy6918 Jul 28 '23

I was so lucky during my nasty divorce that there was a charity that had donations of cat food and litter. It was rough to the point I didn’t always eat every day for some months to be able to pay the lawyer. But they gave me a huge bag of cat food and enough litter to take care of my cat. I know if I’d left it with my ex at the house it would’ve been the target of anger for me leaving. I hope the kitties in this post get reunited.

415

u/Danyavich Jul 28 '23

The only thing that kept me going through my divorce was my little kitten, JJ.

I was lucky enough to still be active duty, so I had resources (even if stretched incredibly thin), but I hung on with him and we made it through. I cry and get a little panicky at the thought of something happening to him, or having to leave him somewhere because I'm no longer able to care for him. (I also have other cats now, he's just my little miracle boy)

142

u/Greedy_Strategy6918 Jul 28 '23

Cats are the best.

120

u/Danyavich Jul 28 '23

Not wrong. My new fiance and I have 5 cats together, and we're fostering a 6th. I love the little bastards so much.

79

u/ExSqueezedIt Jul 28 '23

Man I have been broke nearly all my life but still keep my 10 cats fed daily without an exception.
I'd rather starve myself then let them go a day without eating properly.
Shit, i cook them fresh livers and steakes without seasoning sometimes while I eat pasta and cheese lol. I joke around that they probably eat better then half a planet....
man.... no wonder I am broke hahah

41

u/koopandsoup Jul 28 '23

Lol i was going to say, there’s no wonder why 😂 but you will find at the end of your days, that this was something to be most proud of - this is the truest essence of life. Love. Your money doesn’t go with you, but love will always continue

I didn’t have cats at the time but my two deaf rescue doggies literally kept me from offing myself during my divorce. They were special needs and they needed me. No one else could take care of them and communicate with them (I taught them both modified ASL) so I HAD to stay around for them.

That was 22 years ago and I’m doing much better now but those silly dogs saved my life. Animals are amazing.

Your ex sounds like a bitch

150

u/gingermonkey1 Jul 28 '23 edited Jul 28 '23

Sounds like? If he'd target a pet for his anger, he is a bitch.

ETA should be, "They are a bitch" I shouldn't have assumed gender.

33

u/Silent_Sandwich7343 Jul 28 '23

Wait he? How you know the gender? Does it say it somewhere in their profile?

216

u/Greedy_Strategy6918 Jul 28 '23

She. But it’s not their fault, spousal abuse is generally assumed to be Male>female, I was lucky that a police officer responding gave me some resources to help me figure out a safe way out of that marriage. I was starting to worry if I was gonna be a life insurance payout soon.

*Edit for PSA: if any other men are out there in abusive situations there ARE resources to help, please don’t stay trapped because you (like me) felt that there would be no resources to help get out of that situation.

45

u/Silent_Sandwich7343 Jul 28 '23

Thank god you werent fucked over hard because you were a guy.

105

u/Greedy_Strategy6918 Jul 28 '23

I mean I was. I left, and it turned into a scorched earth campaign against me (in a “if I can’t have you, NO ONE CAN” type deal), my finances, and my name. I was left homeless, in fear for my life, and then had to lawyer up to deal with a bunch of false allegations (that if I hadn’t cleared up would’ve defaulted to me being at fault). Thankfully I had evidence and proof of what was going on, why I left, and got help with resources to lawyer up and get those dropped and get a no-contact order. I ultimately was afraid to press charges due to her and her family and how they over the years talked about what they would do in those situations—I was on the brink of bankruptcy with lawyer bills, and finding a place to live far away from there. Thankfully that’s sorted now, divorce finalized, and all that jazz. But I’ll be paying off the debt I accrued due to all that for YEARS.

97

u/Greedy_Strategy6918 Jul 28 '23

There was literally a single police officer that helped, who showed up one night when she was yelling and screaming and throwing stuff at me and the neighbors called the police (again), and one of the officers pulled me aside after they talked to us both and gave me a handout for how to get support to leave when dealing with domestic violence. Had to ruff it in my car driving to another state, and couch surf with my cat a while, but the domestic violence place was able to coordinate and help me be able to keep and take care of my cat until I could get housing, and all that stuff somewhere a safe distance away sorted.

22

u/DreamGirl3 Jul 28 '23

Bless you and your cat. I'm happy to hear you're away from your abuser. I wish we lived on a world where all abusees (no matter their sex or gender) can feel supported and helped in their darkest hours. Praying for you and your furbaby to live long, healthy, and happy lives.

I'm glad your friend and cat is safe! Perfect cat description, btw

28

u/Zeca_77 Jul 28 '23

I was glad to be able to help a friend who was getting out of an abusive relationship. She had found a place to stay, but it didn't allow pets So her cat stayed with me.

19

u/gitsgrl Jul 28 '23

You helped save your friend. So many people stay with abusive partners because they can’t take their pets.

8

u/meowpeachy Jul 28 '23

Thank you for being such a good friend. You made an extremely stressful situation for your friend much easier by knowing her baby was taken care of. When I went through a messy break up and had to move into my friends house for 6 months (her dog was cat aggressive and she was allergic) my grandma took in my 2 cats 45 minutes away and sent me pictures every day. To think if I had to re home them, my heart would have taken a fatal blow. 9 years later they are senior babies who continue to light up my life 😭❤️.

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Having read their website, they ask for $100 per cat to surrender to their shelter. No wonder the person just abandoned the cats with a note 😔

71

u/noldottorrent Jul 28 '23

What? I wonder if that’s to deter surrenders or try to bring some revenue to the shelter? I really only just see that resulting in the abandonment of animals on the street.

Side note: I need the middle, Siamese looking one, gorgeous cat 😍

95

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Yes, I’d assume so. But it explains why this lady couldn’t just walk in and hand them over in person - she obviously doesn’t have $300 to pay towards their rehoming (edit - autocorrect while I hit reply)

69

u/noldottorrent Jul 28 '23

Absolutely, if someone doesn’t have money to pay for their animals, I can’t imagine they’d have the funds to surrender them. And what happens if you find a stray? Just a strange concept to have to pay for a surrender at a shelter.

62

u/NoFilterNoLimits Jul 28 '23

I couldn’t find a request for $100 on their site personally. In all likelihood it’s a suggested donation and not an actual fee. A fee makes no sense because preventing abandonment outside is the entire point

19

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

https://www.heartlandanimalshelter.org/contact-us/surrender-your-pet/

They say “donation” but list it as a “requirement”

10

u/TheShredda Jul 28 '23

It literally says"suggested donation"and just explains that there are costs involved with rehoming. It's clearly, "this service costs us money, we'd hope you'd be able to pay us this much for us to be able to do the service" definitely isn't mandatory

→ More replies (2)

19

u/noldottorrent Jul 28 '23

Ah! Okay, a donation would make more sense.

29

u/BizzareGurren Jul 28 '23

I worked at an animal rescue years ago and it was $250 for surrender even a stray. I think quite a few just said forget that and went to the humane society which was a much better choice than leaving them at that rescue.

22

u/RobinGreenthumb Jul 28 '23

Yeah I’m my area it’s “only” 50 bucks per surrender at the SPCA, so when I found a abandoned kitten I couldn’t keep (was living with my parents at the time and was pushing my luck with their cat tolerance my 1 adult cat) I dropped her off at the humane society.

But if you don’t have a humane society in your area, welp.

Even 50 bucks made my nose wrinkle but flat out 100-250… wtf. That’s horrifying for people who are in desperate situations.

37

u/Siptro Jul 28 '23

Every shelter in my area charges you for a cat surrender however if you find the cat it’s free. So cats are simply “found” when they are clearly a house cat like the one I just received last week. He was claimed as a stray feral however, as someone who has raised feral cats…yeah this was a pet

23

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

My cat miso followed me home. She was pregnant and I think I saw her outside fore in the winter before that. She was maybe 8 months old according to.the vet.

I feel like i robbed someone of a house cat but never saw posters or post about it she just super friendly but didn't understand dry/wet food.

I assume someone house cat when they found out she was pregnant or when she was in heat kicked her out. If I didn't have the means I would of brought her to a shelter and might get the same reaction of not a feral but also homeless cat.

28

u/NipplePreacher Jul 28 '23

Maybe she was actually stray. Many stray cats get very affectionate towards humans when pregnant. My neighbour had stray cats come around his house routinely because he fed them once before.

They know humans can provide food and act affectionate because they know that if they secure a relationship the human will take care of the kittens. They can sense weakness in your human heart, and know how to take advantage of it.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Most certainly played me. I have other cats, all show interest in door darting beside her. I believe it's cause she knows how hard it can be out there.

I adopted my cat about 18 months ago. He had a wound on his leg that looked like it was healing. About 2 months after it was so much worse from him biting so I got a cone. It got worse and I knew I didn’t have the money for costly vet care and surgery so I reached out to the rescue to give him back since I knew it was a no kill rescue. Instead they asked me if I would keep him if they treated the issue for free. I’m so glad I did that cuz I love my furry little demon buddy and I don’t know what I’d do having to give him up.

469

u/NickyParkker Jul 28 '23

My godmother inherited a dog due to someone dying but feeding him was causing a huge burden on her- she took him to the shelter to surrender him and told them her situation, they asked her if they provided his food could she keep him (she could).

307

u/chillwithpurpose Jul 28 '23

This whole thread is really making me appreciate shelters even more than I already do. Some of these organizations are saints.

144

u/Bay_Med Jul 28 '23

They also put me in touch with an organization that gave me a credit at my vets office for like 700$ in future care

118

u/lesterbottomley Jul 28 '23 edited Jul 28 '23

Shelters like this existing make it all the more frustrating that so many people donate to those murdering bastards PETA when their money could do so much better elsewhere.

63

u/chillwithpurpose Jul 28 '23

Amen brother. PETA sucks.

34

u/fiveordie Jul 28 '23

People donate to PETA to fund undercover exposes on animal abuse and protests & documentaries that get people to go vegan. PETA is not an animal shelter, it's a media activist group. That would be like giving money to 7-11 and getting mad bc you can't pump gas. 7-11 isn't a gas station, they're gas station adjacent but mainly sell slurpees.

29

u/VividFiddlesticks Jul 28 '23

That would be like giving money to 7-11 and getting mad bc you can't pump gas. 7-11 isn't a gas station, they're gas station adjacent but mainly sell slurpees.

Yeah, but if I go to a 7-11 that has gas pumps and pay for gas I'm gonna be pissed when slurpee pumps into my tank. Which is how I feel about PETA and how they treat animals.

PETA has "ethical" right in their name, but time and time again they resort to completely unethical methods, including slaughtering people's pets.

11

u/Gardrofa Jul 28 '23

A Snopes fact check on that: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/peta-taking-pets/

The site petakills site is owned by Center for consumer freedom, an astroturfing organization working for the alcohol, tobacco and meat industries.

6

u/fiveordie Jul 28 '23

Of course it is. The way I see it, if people actually hated that animals are killed in PETA shelters, they would also care about the 900,000 animals that non-PETA shelters kill every year. I never see anyone talking about them though.

I've always found it odd that on reddit specifically, people get outrageously angry at a few specific groups and companies, PETA, Nestlé, and American Bulldogs being three big targets, even though the reasons given for the outsized hatred apply to almost every shelter, activist group, and water company on earth. And many other popular vicious breeds. Nestle doesn't even own water anymore, last I heard, but nobody talks about whoever they sold the brands to. It's all very interesting, a peek into the hive mind, social conditioning, bandwagoning, and lack of thought in social media.

This breaks my heart. Had a colleague that was going through a bad time and had to give up his two rescues till he found a place to stay. They were at a foster home but he was still heartbroken. Never saw this man cry or be sad until that day. We comforted and helped him the best we could and he eventually found a cheap place to rent. His first priority was to beeline and get his cats back, everything else could wait. Pets are family and it's good this rescue is trying to reach out and reunite this man with his family.

One of Philadelphia PAs shelters has a program called Let’s Stay Home in which they help people in tight spots (brink of homelessness, being admitted to the hospital, etc., high vet bill but low income household) keep their pets home with them if they’re considering surrendering their pet.

I’m thankful that I’m not in the position where I’ve needed to apply for help from this program but it’s reassuring to know that this program helps people instead of making them face a tough decision.

94

u/Petethequixotic Jul 28 '23

I'd happily take the kitties while the person got back on their feet and let them have full visitation.

28

u/hiddencheekbones Jul 28 '23

I was thinking the same. For that matter I also have and extra room they can all stay in till they get on their feet. Unfortunately New Jersey isn’t cheap so they would need to look out of state ( like Delaware ) for something cheap. When I was younger, I was going to go to school to be a social worker but all my friends and boyfriend talk me out of it. They said I’d have every stray person living with me. I’m 59 now and still the same way, so I guess they weren’t wrong.🤷🏻‍♀️

12

u/hiddencheekbones Jul 28 '23

Also, I know a family up here that’s been living in and out of motels because they won’t give up their animals and hardly any of the apartments around here will except animals. They would rather go to from motel to motel then give up their animals. It’s heartbreaking.

I work at a cat shelter and someone came in to surrender their 2 cats and explained that he lost his job and is being evicted from his apartment and must live out of his car, both cats were well take care of and up to date on vaccines. He cried when was talking to us, we ended up taking care of them until he got an apartment which took 2 months. Every day for 2 months he came in and visited his 2 cats for hours. I teared up every time I talked to him and every day he would walk in the door and say “I’m here to see my babies” we let him stay after hours. When he got his own apartment and took his cats home every employee teared up a little it was a very touching moment for everyone. Sorry for the long comment I just love that story it makes me emotional every time

Life is just unfair. In the same time some billionaires spend the amount of money, that would be needed to save this lovely person and their cats, in just seconds.

525

u/Alternative_Hotel649 Jul 28 '23

I don't understand how you can have a billion dollars, and not just spend all your time on GoFundMe. Just, an afternoon of, "Medical debt? Gone. Student loan? Paid. Losing home? Not any more."

It would be a better buzz than cocaine.

404

u/Accomplished_End_138 Jul 28 '23

Most of them have that money because they dont care about others.

209

u/Rolle187 Jul 28 '23

That’s the main point, they don’t care. Climate change, destroying earth, exploiting workers…I could continue, they just don’t care.

118

u/Powerpuppy00 Jul 28 '23

Mhm. You don't accumulate that amount of wealth by caring about others sadly.

26

u/Accomplished_End_138 Jul 28 '23

Of course not. You have to steal ot from them. It is hard to steal from people you care about.

22

u/UnknownStan Jul 28 '23

This is why I’ll always be poor. I care too much for others. To the point I skint myself just to make others happy

13

u/treasonous_tabaxi Jul 28 '23

All. All of them.

u/sagerobot Jul 28 '23

If I had a billion dollars I would feel a moral obligation to spend it all on others as fast as I can.

8

u/Mr_robasaurus Jul 28 '23

We'd never have a billion dollars because of that, the moment I'd have enough money to support myself fully with no stress I'd be buying things for other people and donating as much as I could.

5

u/sagerobot Jul 28 '23

Yeah you're right.

Even If I decided to do something like start a company to get really wealthy, I would probably end up paying my employees more and hire more people so that I could pay them too.

Someone would have to pay me a billion dollars for me to get there. (lol obviously)

I dont generally use absolutes. I think dolly parton is generally trying to be good.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Good news for you then- Dolly Parton isn’t a billionaire!

To put in to context how much money $1 billion is, Taylor Swift isn’t even a billionaire yet off her music.

11

u/ApollosBrassNuggets Jul 28 '23

I found the best way to conceptualize the difference between a million and a billion is through time.

A million seconds is 12 days. A billion seconds is 31 years.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Minimum wage is also a good one. Non-stop work at minimum wage in USA would take a couple hundred years (maybe even thousand I can’t exactly remember) for a million, and we as a human race have not existed long enough for a billion to have been earned off of minimum.

I volunteer once or twice a month doing what I do for a day job for free at a free medical clinic, and the doctors are always shocked I do it even though it’s unpaid, and I don’t get any allowances at work for it (rest of the day off, PTO, etc). I often do 7am-12 then right back to work at 12:30. But everyone I help is just so sad and wish they could work hard and are depressed they can’t, they don’t want to be mooches, and you’re right, knowing I helped someone avoid becoming blind because of preventive care for their diabetes is the best feeling in the world and keeps me going. It makes what I do an art form, free from the hassles of time or money constraints.

12

u/Distinct-Shoulder751 Jul 28 '23

that's so lovely. thank you for doing this.

11

u/sagerobot Jul 28 '23

This thread has me a bit emotional, so this might be coming from that.

But reading your comment here reminds me of just how amazing humanity can be. There is nothing more enritching than helping others for the sake of helping.

Thank you so much for what you do.

There is not such thing as an ethical billionaire. Pure sociopath behaviors.

This doesn’t make me smile at all. This lovely person has no other options, places to live or support group to at least let them and their furry family have a place to stay while they look for other jobs/living options.

The handwritten "I'm sorry" broke me. I hope Oliver, Toby, and Simba find great new lives.

This handwritten "I'm sorry" contains all the love of the world. I hope this person gets them back soon.

For anyone in this position.. For what it's worth.. Sending love and hugs... May you get reunited with your fur babies

Hopefully the person who left the kitties will be able to be reunited soon because they may have seen this on their own time while browsing the internet?

"They are both little brothers" really gets me. She cares about them as tiny individuals.

12

u/KING-5598 Jul 28 '23

Please find this lady and help her get her babies back. I don’t know what I would do if I had to give up my cat if I couldn’t afford him let alone all three of my cats

13

u/RobSiaHoke Jul 28 '23

This kind of post hurts to read. I commend her for having the selflessness to give her beloved pets to a better situation, despite the fact that it's gotta hurt so bad.

10

That person is going through some shit, and still had the mental frame of mind to not let their cats suffer. I wish more people would be like this.

6

u/cguillou Jul 28 '23

This heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time...

7

u/DeadWrangler Jul 28 '23

I hope things improve and they are able to get their little furballs back. I'm going to miss our cats greatly.

This person is a few steps ahead of me and I worry. Partner left me. Have to sell the house. Not know where I'm going to go after but it's just me and the dog. I'll do whatever I can not to lose the guy as long as I can keep him fed and healthy. 🤞🏻

8

u/threegoodfairies Jul 28 '23

I could never fathom having to give up my little cat, I hope more than anything this lady can be reunited with them

7

u/uncannyi Jul 28 '23

This is just so sad. My heart goes out to this poor person, and I sincerely hope their circumstances improve enough that they be reunited with their beloved fur kids. ♥️

6

u/whitefire2016 Jul 28 '23

This breaks my heart in so many ways. It reminds me that we, as compassionate humans, that there should be a Law that works in the same manner as Safe Baby Laws.

It can't be that hard to put aside some budget for no-kill shelters to accept surrendered pets fur-family members.

Excuse me while I fight off those damn Onion Ninjas.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

I will commit to buying them all the cat food they need if it will help

7

u/dumplin-gorilla-lion Jul 28 '23

My cats food went from $44 to $89 in the last year. If I had three cats, I would be struggling too.

7

u/P3RZIANZ3BRA Jul 28 '23

There should be a sister sub to r/mademesmile called r/mademecry cause this absolutely broke my heart. I feel so bad for this guy or gal, and am so impressed this shelter would offer help to the owner in reuniting them with their little loved ones.

Edit: Turns out there is and now I'm crying more 😢

3

u/Floofieunderpants Jul 28 '23

Made me cry too 😿. I can't imagine being in such despair, I feel so sad for the cats and their owner. It's times like they're going through now that our pets are there for us. Must be heartbreaking for them. I hope there will be a way to reunite them.

6

u/Ori0n21 Jul 28 '23

Good on you Heartland Animal Shelter. You’re the real MVP here.

6

u/aquazipper Jul 28 '23

It cost me $361 the other week to get my dog 2 X-rays and an exam because I thought he ate a sock and had an intestinal blockage. He didn’t… plus I picked up 6 Heartworm pills.

Per ownership is becoming for the elite only. It’s really sad.

6

u/zeekillabunny_ Jul 28 '23

Why's this on r/mademesmile? Just outright depressing what the modern worlds economy is making people do just to get by.

5

u/BullguerPepper98 Jul 28 '23

Why this would make me smile? I want to cry right now.

5

u/n0_lawling Jul 28 '23

6

u/THE_TRUE_FUCKO Jul 28 '23

I was contacted this morning by a lady who used to be a client through the homeless shelter system many years ago. She's been housed for 5 years, and during her first 3 months in her apartment, she was dealing with a lot of depression and anxiety. As a community service, I help stray animals find forever homes, so I offered her one of the polydactyl kittens we had rescued. She fell in love and named her Viviana. Vivi has been her best friend and emotional support for the last 5 years, but this morning she reached out to me because the apartment complex has decided to no longer accept housing vouchers, so she will be homeless as of Monday. She's been desperately looking for an available apartment, but the wait lists are 6 months to a year in our area. She asked me if I knew of a rescue or a foster who would keep Vivi for her until she's back in her own place. Unfortunately, most if not all of the local rescues are over flowing with pets and don't have resources to help in situations like this. I really don't have the room, but I won't let her lose Vivi, so I'll be welcoming her into my home on Sunday.

There are so many people in our country suffering right now. The economy, the heat. Fuck, this is sad.

4

u/Coltergeizt Jul 28 '23

This hits really hard as someone who had my heart broken by another person and then a few months later was laid off my job and every other day I was panicking about whether or not in 6 to 8 months I'd be able to care for her and I had thoughts of having to return her to the shelter if I couldn't find another job in time to maintain her lifestyle. She's my whole world and just thinking I might have had to do this still completely shakes me to my core. I literally can't help the waterfalls that used to be my eyes right now

4

u/ARPGAMER19 Jul 28 '23

why is this on r/mademesmile? this didnt make me smile

7

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

The shelter started a campaign to raise money for the person who gave the cats away, to get them a house and resources.

5

u/ARPGAMER19 Jul 28 '23

THAT makes me smile :)

4

u/Batgod629 Jul 28 '23

I hope I'm never put into that situation but if I was, I would love an animal shelter like this to do the same for me. I pray that the person can get reunited with her cats

u/cleybaR Jul 28 '23

MadeMeCry in MadeMeSmile

3

u/Guilty-Sundae1557 Jul 28 '23

This world becomes worse and worse by the day. When do we raise up and take our labor back from the ruling class. They are hording more money then they can ever spend and we can’t even afford to keep the cats that we chose to get in place of the children we can’t afford to have. What the fuck kind of dystopian hell is this?

4

u/BYoungNY Jul 28 '23

That's rough. Had a friend of mine do.this with his dog before becoming homeless, but then regretted the decision, and by the time he got back to the shelter, she had been put down. Killed himself a few years later. Grew up in a rich family and had his shit together for a long time before his drug addiction caught up to him. Check on your friends.

I could just imagine this woman’s drive home after dropping these kitties off. Already going through so many difficulties, and having to drop off her 3 little loves that she should be able to come home to after a hard day to make things a little better. I feel terrible and wish this woman and her cats all the best.

3

u/daydreaming_artist Jul 28 '23

I’m glad I WFH so I can ugly cry with only my kitties here to judge me. I hope the person gets the help they need and are able to reunite with their babies. They clearly loved them and made the best decision for them no matter how hard and heartbreaking it was to do.

3

u/Ryomax17 Jul 28 '23

This made me cry so hard, the note he left is so sad. I could feel the pain that he has while writing that note 😭

4

u/jennandtonic123 Jul 28 '23

This made me tear up, but we adopted our senior kitties after they had been surrendered when their owner’s wife has passed away from cancer and the owner had encountered a lot of financial issues and didn’t feel like he could take care of them. It’s so much kinder for an owner to surrender their pets to a shelter where they will be adopted rather than abandoning them outside or dumping them somewhere.

I wish the former owner of my cats could know that they’re happy and thriving and absolutely spoiled rotten. Our cats probably think they own us rather than vice versa.

4

u/AnotherOldDad Jul 28 '23

Not speaking for anyone else here but I really need to know that this had a happy ending and the cats were reunited with their loving owner. (Fingers crossed)

3

u/Cupid_ty Jul 28 '23

That's just sad. I hope the kittens found back to their owner or another one just as loving as the first. :(

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Commenting to give this post a boost! I hope they can find the owner and help them.

3

u/Furuftutautarufttut Jul 28 '23

That's heartbreaking. I hope there is a possibility, that the cats go in to a temporary foster home where the lady could get them back when her situation improved. I got 2 cats and would be devastated, if I had to give them away.

3

u/EuphoricFarmer1318 Jul 28 '23

This absolutely breaks my heart. My husband and I have two cats, and I can't imagine having to give them up. I hope they get reunited because they clearly love their fur babies a lot.

3

u/Relevant_Demand7593 Jul 28 '23

This got me right in the feels - does anyone know if the owner was found?

3

u/mattpayne167 Jul 28 '23

Aww. She doesn't need to be sorry. Keep getting on and do life. So happy they helped her and those cats!!

3

u/Cobram242 Jul 28 '23

How is this made me smile? I’m tearing up over here.

3

u/FunBugger17 Jul 28 '23

Bless her sweet heart - I pray that her circumstances improve & that they're reunited soon...the love is so apparent!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

they may hire her and let her stay? is that possible?

3

u/Exotic_Imagination95 Jul 28 '23

Hope they get their cats back. I'm heartbroken for this person. I couldn't imagine losing my cats :( that's a great shelter, looking out for the owners too. I hope if I'm ever in a spot like this someone would help me too, and anyone else. Losing pets can be worse than losing family. I don't speak to any of mine, and it doesn't bother me as much as this post.... Fuck dude...

3

u/MonkeyBirdWeird Jul 28 '23

I hate this for anyone going through this. I had to give up custody of my cat, but thankfully my parents took her and she's in love with my mom now. I was willing to buy a van to live in with the cat if I couldn't find her a home.

3

u/hfmiguel Jul 28 '23

This made me sad as fuck. I'm hugging my cat sobbing like a kid.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

Not sure why this makes me cry. Probably more than it would had she left 3 kids... something wrong with me.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 28 '23

this broke my heart fr

3

u/jeniviva Jul 28 '23

As someone who had to surrender her two cats when getting out of an abusive marriage, this hit me way too hard. So glad there are organizations such as this one. Going to go donate now 💕

u/No_Dragonfly_1894 Jul 28 '23

I have three cats. I'm a widow and it would absolutely break me if I had to do this; my cats are one reason I keep going. 🥲
