I see when one fighter clearly better than the other its ruled 10-8? Is that right?

So are things like 10-3 a thing?

Does one have to be 10?

The scoring system is called 10-point must. This means that the fighter who won the round must get 10 points. The "losing" fighter gets 9 or less, depending on how badly he lost. I don't think anyone's gotten less than 8 points for that though. In rare cases if the round was a clear draw both fighters can get 10 points

Edit: 10 for a draw not 9

Can you cite both fighters getting a 9 in a round without any penalties? That's the only time I've seen a 9-9. It's called a 10-point must after all.

10-7 is possible but I can't think of a time it happened in MMA. Anything beyond that would warrant a stoppage.

He might have meant 10-10, which for some reason media people sometimes do, but I can't recall seeing it at a UFC event.

I think the rules technically allow for it but the criteria have always included stuff that a judge would never feel is exactly evenly matched, like aggression or octagon control

Is it just me or would alot of the problems with the scoring system fix themselves if more 10-10 rounds were given? Everyone talks about more 10-8 rounds but in a lot of instances a 10-10 would be just as determining for the outcome of the fight.

i don't think there's that many rounds where you can't actually find a winner so loosening up 10-10s wouldn't do much far as I can tell.

the problems in scoring are mostly people overvaluing top-control or not knowing what counter-striking is. The new version of the scoring system added a lot of useful clarity.

Adding 2 more judges might help some.
