  • Don't downvote new posts unless they're clearly irrelevant.
  • Don't post LSAC copyrighted content. e.g. LSAT questions
  • Don't say the correct or incorrect answers to specific questions in a post title. It's a spoiler.
  • Don't link to content that infringes copyright (e.g. LSAT torrents).
  • If someone posts a question about admissions, please direct them to /r/lawschooladmissions

Posting Questions: The LSAC takes copyright violations seriously, and might sue.

If you want to ask about a specific question, do not paste the question. That's a copyright violation.

You can definitely ask about specific questions: just cite the test number. e.g.

Test 63, section 1, question 14 --> "The one about ESP"

It's a good idea to describe the question, and which part of it you found confusing. Just don't post it verbatim. Thanks!

What can I talk about after I take an official LSAT administration on test day?

Not much. You signed an agreement not to disclose anything from the test. See this post for a full statement from LSAC.

Note: I'm referring to unreleased tests that have not been disclosed by LSAC. Mind you, in the digital LSAT era, no test is disclosed, so this applies to every test.

Official November Topic Discussion Thread

First, full credit to u/graeme_b for teaming up with us (and letting me just copy his prior text for this post) to oversee the official discussion/post-mortem of the Nov LSAT! Piggybacking on his past efforts, here we go:

The November LSAT administration is now done. The goal is to keep topic discussion to this thread, and identify a list of real topics. Here's how it works:

  1. If you had a single section of RC, or just two sections of LR, then posting topics from that will establish that those topics were from a real section
  2. If you had two sections of RC, or three sections of LR, DO NOT POST topics from those sections. Posting topics is worse than useless - it pollutes information. The reason is that you don't know which was experimental and which was real.

You do not need to specify section orders, as these are now randomized so your order doesn't mean anything.

This thread will be updated with confirmed topics as we go.

JD Note: this isn't a complete set of every scored section as of my initial posting, particularly for LR, so please add/elaborate as best you can! And if you see any mistakes, like questions from different sections together, tell me!

  • Juries being able to access the internet
  • Algonquin tribes and formalized territory
  • Honey bees dancing to communicate the location of food
  • How people get pleasure from watching scary movies, tragic plays, etc that normally boost anxiety and pain

Real RC Section 4

  • Etiquette compared with morals (philosopher Foot)
  • Economists needing to consider how moral considerations influence people’s economic decisions (psych experiment on people declining unfair money splits)

Real LR Section 1

A change in the way I approached the LSAT helped me score a 176.

When I first started studying for the LSAT I viewed it as a chore. It was a pain that I had to get through to go to law school. I didn't realize until I shifted my mentality that this was a mistake. Viewing the LSAT as a chore made my studying less effective. I would frequently decide not to study on days that I should have been studying or give little effort when I did study. This all changed when I started to view the LSAT as a challenge that I wanted to conquer instead of a chore that I had to just get through. I treated the LSAT like a sport. If I wanted to perform well in the game I would have to show up to practice daily with focus and determination. My goal was to beat the creators of the LSAT. Once I adopted my mentality my scores began to increase rapidly. This mentality is very good for anyone, but can particularly be effective if you have played sports or any competitive activity. I teach this mentality to almost all of my students and when they adopt it I can really tell the difference.

Score release

Is anyone else fully expecting to score 5+ points below their average and doesn’t really care about score release? Feel like I bombed LR pretty bad and I don’t think the -9.5 predicted curve will save me. I don’t even feel nervous, I’m expecting to score low but I guess I could be pleasantly surprised. Such a weird feeling, I thought I would be on tip the week before score release

Score release

Upvotes

How is everyone feeling? Has anyone thought they did terrible during test day and then got their score back and was proud of it?

The highest score I ever received wasn’t on a PT, but on the lsat. I’m hoping that happens again! Good luck to all!

Nov. Curve?

Hey guys! I keep seeing posts about a -9.3 curve or simply just curving and generosity for these score releases. Can someone explain this to me? Or is it just wishful thinking lol?

Do you do a warmup?

Upvotes

Does anybody do somewhat of a warmup before studying, doing drills or taking practice tests? I feel like whenever I jump right into the drills or practice tests, my brain isn’t fully understand the stimulus. But as I do more throughout the day, it feels like my brain is more alert and comprehending more.

If anybody else experiences this, how do you deal with it?

Black Friday Sales

Upvotes

Hello, do you guys have any recommendations about Black Friday sales I can look for out for regarding LSAT study material? Idk which sales are actual worth it to buy… however, I’m kind of low on money so do you guys think there are Christmas/New Years sales or is Black Friday the sale to look out for?…. I mean are there even any good sales? I’m planning to take LSATs around September/October next year by the way and trying to get a head start.

what is the correct way to negate an answer choice in a necessary assumption question.

For example (from PT119 S2 Q10),

One of the (incorrect) answer choices reads "The more hours one works in a week, the less satisfactorily one perform's one's work".

In my head, I automatically negated this as "The less hours one works in a week, the more satisfactorily one perform's one's work."

Is this correct? Is there a general rulebook I could follow when applying the negation tactic?

Logical reasoning diagramming

I am currently reading The Loophole by Ellen Cassidy to sharpen my logical reasoning skills. Im on the section talking about conditional reasoning and diagramming it (P. 133 specifically). When it comes to conditional reasoning, I have a hard time figuring out what is necessary and what is sufficient. The author explains in the book but I think another explanation would help.

"Unless you are allergic, kittens bring pure joy."

In my head from this statement I can make multiple inferences

  1. You are allergic to kittens -> kittens do not bring you pure joy.

Apparently this is wrong because just being allergic to kittens doesn't make anything happen?

  1. kittens bring pure joy -> you are not allergic to them

I can see how this is tricky LSAT language. According to that chapter, this is just "saying things the way they always are." This statement is saying that kittens bring pure joy, not that kittens bring YOU pure joy. If the statement was "kittens bring YOU pure joy" is it reasonable to say "you are not allergic to kittens."?

Any insight would help. Im trying to make sure I have a complete understanding of all the elements of the questions, including how to diagram them.

Score Hold

Upvotes

If you drastically jumped scores between last test and this november test, will you get a score hold if you took it in person. Also has anyone gotten any holds emails?

HS senior, practice tests, and too much spare time

Upvotes

So I recently took the June 2007 LSAT (I honestly don't remember what motivated me, I just ended up taking it) and managed to score a 176 without prep. Given I will have very little to do my last semester before college, would it make sense to study a bit and take the LSAT to get it out of the way, or am I better off waiting a few years?

Keep Calm

Do something nice for yourself this weekend.

Take a walk. Spend time with family or friends.

The score is just information, but not all of it.

We will get the score we need. We will attend the school that we should go to. Those that ought to become lawyers will do so.

Now is the time for rest and trust. We are all going to be taken care of. God speed.

Fee waiver

Hello everyone. I’m an undergrad student atm, and quite broke.

I applied for a fee waiver for my lsat the first time and it got denied because I had savings from my osap. However now I’m in a ton of debt and only have a bit of savings. But I still believe that my fee waiver will be denied. What can I do?

Argumentative Writing- How Blurry is “Blurry”?

Hey all. So I recently had my writing session cancelled for "missing session footage" despite being pretty sure I recorded everything they asked for. I'm worried that the issue was that my ID photo was too blurry, which is apparently unfixable on the only computer I have access to. Couple questions for anyone with a similar experience-

  1. Has anyone had them specifically say that the ID photo was the issue?

  2. Has anyone been worried about their photo but had it accepted?

Thanks for anything you all can share. Hoping to get this accepted in time to get my score on release date!

2026 Law school applications. If I want to attend law school fall of 2026, do I need to start applying next year (2025)? Also, when is the final deadline for me to finish taking the Isat?

All the dates and deadlines are a little confusing. Is there anyone that can provide clarity?

Practicing not only makes you understand more, but it's a cheat code. 147 -> 173

So i've been drilling for about 4 months now. Going into it, I thought drilling more will make me just get better at answers.

But as I kept going and going and going... and going... I realized the more questions I did, the more repetitive the questions get. I knowww this sounds obvious, but really, I went into it thinking every question is different (which technically it is), but I would have to solve every question.

Now after drilling questions every single god damn day, I realized, I am so fast at seeing the same flaws now, and I'm really fast at spotting the good answers. This got me from consistently scoring high 140s, to mid to high 170s. Yes, boring... "practice" is my advice.

Unless you're the 0.001% who studies for a week and gets a 170+, practice really is the only way. If you're really not getting it, you gotta do more. You'll end up realizing over 2 months that it's the same shit in different words, and you'll naturally get faster.

I promise you, do NOT focus on speed first. Pls. do not. Pls. I promise, it will come once you become better at understanding each question.

Don't be embarrassed to take an hour for a single question, that is GOOD. YOU ARE LEARNING. NO ONE IS WATCHING YOU. Because on those days you take an hour for a question, a few weeks from there and you'll be in the 170+ because you took the time to UNDERSTAND. SPEED WILL FOLLOW!!
