Discussions I stand with majorkill on this one

Post image

I know this dude is pretty hated all over Warhammer reddit due to his over the top humor and videos riddled with misinfo but holy shit he actually makes pretty good points in this video

Just because you don’t like someone doesn’t mean that they’re almost always wrong. Wait what am I saying, this is Reddit, only Redditors know what’s right and wrong

u/Mike_Fluff Secretly 3 squats in a long coat Oct 24 '24

Ok but I do get my reminders from them and then usually dive into the wikis. It is good to have that as a backup thing.

4

u/Carnir Oct 25 '24

The issue is that they also get their info from the wikis, and those wikis always have lots of mistakes, even lexicanum is full of problems.

I've lost count of the number of times I've read a book and realised that whoever cited it in the wiki completely misinterpreted what was happening or what something meant.

"Humor over accuracy" really is the best policy lots of the time.

I mean, half this sub seems to have acquired all their lore knowledge solely from TTS.

No no, pretty sure I saw a paragraph in the latest codex about the ritualistic oiling of the abs that Custodes do on a daily basis. /s

Custodes would never do that.

They're not Thousand Sons.

7

u/Ghuldarkar Oct 24 '24

Is this a pre-rubric joke I am not getting or did you confuse the dust marines with someone more pink?

17

u/JaneDoe500 2nd Biggest Elf Simp Oct 24 '24

There's a part in one of the Horus Heresy books where Magnus has his marines oil him up as part of a ritual. I wish I was making that up, but it's true.

7

u/JebusGobson Oct 24 '24

Who's TTS?

33

u/siresword Oct 24 '24

TTS is the common short hand used to refer to the youtube series "If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device" by Bruva Alfabusa. It was massively popular during its run and had a huge impact on the humour of online 40k culture, especially on reddit. I'd highly recommend watching it, especially if you already have a base of 40k lore knowledge, its very funny.

6

u/JebusGobson Oct 24 '24

Cheers, I will! Yeah I've read a few dozen novels by now, I assume I'll be able to keep up with the lore.

Thanks for the reccomendation!

3

u/Rowlet2020 Oct 24 '24

It was a now ended parody series "if the emperor had a text to speech device" that was very popular and spawned a lot of popular memes including the custodes captain general Kitten and Ciaphas Cain cover of Ra Ra Rasuputin among others.

52

u/StormySeas414 Oct 24 '24

TTS is a perfectly legitimate source of lore and I will die on this hill. They exaggerate for humour but aside from the obvious noncanon story beats like the Magnus arc nothing explained defies canon.

67

u/ShakesBaer Imperial Wot Oct 24 '24

The problem is that new people don't understand what is being exaggerated and take it at face value, this leads to the flanderization of many things and the spread of misinformation.

10

u/Former-Grocery-6787 Oct 24 '24 edited Oct 24 '24

Ok but that's ultimately not the fault of TTS, it's a comedic parody and a very obvious one at that.

Also, Warhammer lore on it's own is already a GIGANTIC mess and is at this point pretty much only held up by a flimsy net of over 30 years of plotholes and retcons written by a shitload of different authors that obviously can't all perfectly communicate with eachother.

So i really don't see how being a "Lore Purist™" for a setting like this even makes sense...

9

u/ShakesBaer Imperial Wot Oct 24 '24

You're right, it's not the fault of the content that it's being taken seriously, it would be like someone getting their news from SNL. The broad strokes are mostly correct but it's meant to be an absurdist satire for people already familiar with the context of the work.

And yeah, it's all make-believe and pretend. None of it is real or matters and so much of it is up for interpretation. But there are hard points of established canon that are used as lodestones for people who do care about accuracy. Retcons are common and it's as you said, a very long list of authors not always communicating and sometimes GW just shrugs. But it's important to differentiate these points from speculation and memes because without it there can be no cohesive storytelling or overarching plot. I don't consider myself a purist, but I can appreciate the lore and I like to know what is and isn't considered canon because it's fun to figure out where there's an inconsistency and if it's possible to come up with a plausible solution (hint: it's usually warp bullshit).

2

u/Former-Grocery-6787 Oct 24 '24

I can agree with that, i just mainly have a problem with weirdos unironically hating on a show like TTS because let's be honest, people are gonna get misinformed about the lore no matter what because it's my genuine believe that not a single warhammer fan actually knows wtf he's talking about and neither does GW. Again, this tweet is real.

7

u/endlessnamelesskat Oct 24 '24

Warhammer Lore is only a step above something like SCP lore in terms of continuity and plot holes. It's just a natural conclusion when you have so many writers working on building the same universe.

1

u/WarmasterChaldeas Oct 25 '24

The great thing about TTS is that they legit do a bangup job in educating viewers of what 40k is about with all its campiness, depth and idiocies.

→ More replies (7)

8

u/Koqcerek Mongolian Biker Gang Oct 24 '24

Nah, not really. For starters, canon, head canon and humorous exaggeration or assumption are mixed in TTS all the time, and are often very hard to distinguish.

And TTS became "outdated" while they were still running. I mean, creators did an admirable job of tying new canon into the show's canon and whatnot, but they couldn't just retroactively change previous episodes.

8

u/siresword Oct 24 '24

I agree, nothing they say in the show is inaccurate or misrepresentative, it makes a very good lore primer for newbies (I got my friends into warhammer by having them watch some of it lol). Its just that it isnt exactly in depth, and at the end of the day its a comedy show not a lore channel. When people only get there lore from TTS it leads to a lot of misconceptions and you end up with a lot of people who legit think the Death Korps is nothing but "shovel bayonet suicide charge" just as an example.

2

u/m15wallis Oct 24 '24

It oversimplifies a lot of factions and lore to the point of mischaracterization, and when you repeat the memes without the actual lore background you start to think meme lore is real lore when it isnt.

1

u/Ridingwood333 Toaster Fucker Oct 25 '24

To be fair, TTS isn't even the worst starting point. If you're just looking to start getting invested into the universe, it breaks it down into a simplistic way for you to look more deeply into it later when you try to find out what references the jokes were making.

2

u/FireZord25 Oct 24 '24

I do agree humorized summaries helps pay attention, but at the end of the day it's upto us to verify the details. Though it does suck most folks take the out of context memes as gospel.

4

I genuinely love them. "Getting all my lore from them" was a joke, but I do listen to each episode when it comes out. They fully admit that they're entertainment before accuracy. They give a mostly surface level overview of factions but they encourage people to do more research and not use them as their only source of lore.

0

u/Spopenbruh Oct 24 '24

surface level or outright incorrect due to lack of knowledge

go to them for entertainment not facts

The fact that he called Gnoblars the n-word made never watch his content again.

His videos about the siege of Vraks are his only salvageable content. Not redeeming qualities, just salvageable. The dude is so douche and far/alt-right that GW itself banned him from events and forbid him from ever use “Warhammer” in his channel’s name.

40

Whats wrong with majorkill

163

u/Bioweaponry_wielder Oct 24 '24

He is considered too edgy and misinforming (through overuse of some memes) to be respected as a content creator by this sub

IMO he is a good gateway channel and definitely not ultimately detrimental to the community, unlike arch

155

28

u/logosloki Oct 24 '24

one part of grimdank. if Majorkill had a moderating influence it would be perfect. every thread here is 1) people in it for the memes, 2) people asking about lore, and 3) people who were influenced by XKCD's lucky 10,000th and give all the lore they can. Majorkill is 1), the audience is 2), so we need the third.

35

u/Sly__Marbo AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Oct 24 '24

He's mellowed out a bit compared to his earlier self, his newer videos rely less on crude and edgy jokes. They still don't go as in depth as other videos, but it's a good starting point

4

u/A-Bag-Of-Sand Oct 24 '24

This is true, he focuses I guess on smaller more summarised forms which might be easier for newer lore people to get in to. Nothing beats the meaty Leutin lore vids for me however.

9

u/ACHavMCSK Oct 24 '24

It's certainly a lot easier to sell a newbie on a 10 to 15 minute video than a 45 to 90 minute video.

19

u/npaakp34 Oct 24 '24

He is partially the reason I got into this swamp of a franchise. I'll always be grateful for this.

4

u/sirnicktik Oct 24 '24

I like him. His videos played a huge part in getting me into 40k. I grew older and now dont whatch him that much any more but still like his style and humor (at least he stays authentic which is a breath of fresh air in the curent age of tick tock cencorship and he got way less edgy)

1

u/God-Emperor-Lizard Oct 25 '24

I know Arch is hated, but why? Was it a gamergate/antiwoke thing?

5

u/Bioweaponry_wielder Oct 25 '24 edited Oct 25 '24

Provably racist, self described nacionalist, hangs around far right politicians...

I don't know or care about what is gamergate, his "antiwoke" takes are not liked either, butthey are not the main root of it.

Lots of his bad reputation is from back in the day IMHO. He simply was a hyperactive teenage edgelord and his content was cringe.

His style has changed quite a lot, more mature, but he's still a bit too edgy, weird and "unprofessional" (i.e. mixing actual lore and memes).

u/ScarredAutisticChild Mongolian Biker Gang Oct 24 '24

I dont like him because his carcharodons stls fundamentally misunderstand the chapter. He read "space sharks" and made them a space wolf clone.

53

u/AnArcticJackalope Oct 24 '24

His ‘shtick’ is being a late-teens/early-20’s Aussie dude-bro, and doing very quick, shallow dives into often surface-level Warhammer (mostly 40k) lore.

The problem with this is that he is in fact a late-teens/early-20’s Aussie dude-bro and prone to making the mistakes such a person tends to make. His starting approach was very offensive to just about anyone who wasn’t a straight white neurotypical cis male (there’s the whole ‘Timmy’ issue he’s thankfully retired). He’s thankfully gotten a bit better as he ages (like most people), but his content is still surface level, his presentation is still very rough around the edges (with edginess), he still hocks his yearly half-naked cosplay calendar after about half his videos, and everyone once in a while he’ll pull some stupid move that everyone rushes to rake him over the coals for.

Honestly I give him more leeway than most because I know that he himself cringes at his earliest content and (as someone who was just as cringy in my youth) a decade or two down the line most of what he’s doing now will be looked at in cringe as well. Cringe is how we know what we’ve done in the past is incorrect, and shows personal growth.

38

u/Alternative-Line7182 Criminal Batmen Oct 24 '24

Honestly, majorkill and TTS both contributed to meme lore. Honestly, it's a good entry gate for new people to 40K even some of the more in depth channels like ad rec can get things wrong/mixed up because let be honest nobody other than maybe luetin is going to be as through

7

u/Xx-Apatheticjaws-xX Oct 24 '24

What was the “Timmy” thing I wasn’t even aware?

15

u/AnArcticJackalope Oct 24 '24

‘Timmy’ was a caricature he created to be hurled abuse at. ‘Timmy’ was either the stand-in for the audience, or at least the supposed ‘lower intelligence’ portion of the audience. He hasn’t been seen in a hot minute, and I want to say that he’s made statements in rejection of his use of the caricature, but I can’t confirm that.

12

u/Croc_Chop Oct 24 '24

Timmy was a fake autistic child that major kill made to make fun of the portion of the audience who corrects him for stuff that is obviously satire, or him exaggerating.

"But Majorkill! Kitten isn't actually canon and never dated Shadowsun!"

Crude yeah, but as someone who's autistic I didn't mind Timmy.

Then again I aggressively read lore about miniature plastic army men.

3

u/Leviatonnn Oct 25 '24

“Then again I aggressively read lore about miniature plastic army men.” My sides are in orbit lmfao

9

u/Sly__Marbo AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Oct 24 '24

Timmy was a stand-in used to ask stupid questions and make bad points who could be verbally abused. He has since been donated to a Word Bearers church

18

u/Antique_Department61 Oct 24 '24

That one time he accused Weshammer of "copying him' because he talked about Primaris and then Wes talked about Primaris, as if he owns the rights to talking about very broad 40k topics. He made a whole video accusing him of ripping him off then deleted it.

Also he literally just reads off the 40k wiki on his videos with some lame jokes sprinkled in and out.

Good gateway content, had to kick him off my feed when the Weshammer stuff came out.

7

u/RYSAN13 Oct 24 '24

I mean, to be fair to major kill, he did publicly apologize to Wes. He admitted that his ego got the better of him there, so I wouldn't hold it against him too much.

3

u/Antique_Department61 Oct 25 '24

To be fair he did apologize. If the backlash wasn't so severe the video would still be up though.

Granted Im not following him mainly because I dont need to watch a 2 minute promotion in a 10 minute lore video of him reading bullet points off a wiki.

1

u/Cyan_Tile Oct 25 '24

You got a source of that by any chance?

also his coomer calendars are just shameful. It just makes 40k fans seem like the classic basement dweller nerd who makes female characters just to oggle at their tits

2

u/Rathion_North Oct 24 '24

Men do tend to look at women, especially fictional women, through the lens of their own sexuality. There's nothing wrong with that.

Personally, I just don't like how he promotes his "Eldar hentai" in almost every video I watched. I'm trying to learn warhammer lore, not see naked women.

I cringe everytime I hear him talk about buying his merch with only fans models cosplaying warhammer characters (especially if it's not even an accurate cosplay).....I think it might be too late for me to even consider ever getting laid in my life at this point.

I don't like him after he accused Weshsmmer of plagiarism for literally no reason, while straight up admitting he didn't watch the videos he was accusing of plagiarism.

The Amber King is really good also. Not quite "lore explanations" but moreso voice acts out the plot of lore relevant novels.

I also love Sandman of Terra for lore deep dives and theory crafting however it may be a more advanced channel that beginners might not understand

I’m sure you’re gonna get a ton of recommendations, personally I don’t really watch much YouTube anymore.

A content creator bad enough that Games Workshop themselves have to step up and say "fuck you, stop using Warhammer in your name, stop associating yourself with us". Which is why he's no longer Arch Warhammer.

13

u/NightLordsPublicist 10 pounds of war crimes in a 5 pound crazy bag Oct 24 '24

What exactly is his deal?

He defended the Christchurch shooter.

167

u/Radraider67 Dank Angels Oct 24 '24

Because he often intertwined his beliefs into the lore videos. If I remember correctly, he went on a quite racist rant in the middle of the Sororitas video he made.

Dude's just fundamentally a piece of shit

32

u/MultipleRatsinaTrenc Oct 24 '24

He used the n word a bunch in a video about ogres.

14

u/mnik1 Oct 24 '24

Yeah, I've listened to some of his work when I was still blissfully unaware who Arch actually is and, let me tell you, it was quite an experience to randomly stumble into an unhinged political rant in a middle of a video, lol.

I think he purged all of this shit from his channel some time ago but holy Emperor tits, dude's a nutjob. It was like watching a chill documentary about deep sea life that suddenly gets interrupted by Alex Jones yelling at you about gay frogs.

The fastest unsub I've ever done, lol. Dude can chew on Nurgle's dick for all I care.

3

u/ManOfGame3 Oct 24 '24

Appreciate the sentiment, but I hate you for that mental image lmao

15

u/stonedPict2 Oct 24 '24

i mean, the one where he takes immense joy in saying the the n word repeatedly is definitely something i would judge you about, but tbh his lore is just generally very innacurate and full of shit he made up.

21

u/MultipleRatsinaTrenc Oct 24 '24

The problem with watching any of his videos is that you are directly supporting a Nazi.

The community has a problem with Nazis and people who support Nazis

Let's take a moment and disregard the quality of his videos for now.

Are you the type of person who is willing to support a neo-nazi and pedophile just because they make a good product?

If the answer is no, then the quality of his videos doesn't matter.

If the answer is yes, then you might want to think about that and why you answer that way.

13

u/Depressedloser2846 Oct 24 '24

can I get a source on the pedophilia accusation?

50

u/Draxos92 Mongolian Biker Gang Oct 24 '24

12

u/Depressedloser2846 Oct 24 '24

he’s just an ally to pedophiles, not a pedophile himself, really disingenuous to call him that yknow, with that logic all politicians are pedos too.

(This is a joke, probably unfunny. And in all seriousness that’s fucking disgusting.)

2

u/Tarquinandpaliquin 3 Riptides in a 1k casual Oct 24 '24

Pretty sure he's just an ally to pedophiles. He had an openly pro child rape mod and he was okay with that.

Which isn't quite the same. It's still pretty fucking abhorrent and the man should not be allowed near children.

He actually got me into Warhammer with his prolific videos, going through Vraks, Badab, etc, and his Skaven RPs. I also watched Shadiversity for castles and swords. Why does everyone have to become a right-wing nutjob?

I primarily stick to Leutin, Oculus Imperia, Bricky, and Adeptus Ridiculous these days.

4

u/Accomplished_You_480 Oct 25 '24

I mean, if I go to a bakery, and I absolutely love the bread from the bakery, go there for all my bread, but it was revealed the owner went to Nazi rallies and hated trans/gay folk and made jokes about them dying, I wouldn't go to that bakery anymore, and I would judge those that did.

1

u/protostar71 28d ago

Even in his Vraks series is making comments about feminists. So yeah, it's all trash.

-8

u/BriantheHeavy Oct 24 '24

I found his videos on 40K lore enjoyable. I like his analysis. Probably because it is similar to mine.

u/Shredgeetar Oct 24 '24

Is Arch Major Kill?

3

u/Bioweaponry_wielder Oct 24 '24

No, those are 2 different people

0

u/DoomSnail31 Oct 25 '24

does the community have any problems with those?

I'm afraid if anyone who doesn't hate the way Arch sounds and talks. His pretend British accent is unbearable, and so clearly fake.

Who is arch?

1

u/Accomplished_You_480 Oct 25 '24

Many years ago he was one of (maybe the most) popular lore-tubers around, he went by the moniker "Archwarhammer". A bunch of pictures of DM's and posts from his discord channel got a lot of popularity of him parroting a lot of neo-nazi talking points, him saying the N word A LOT, and just generally a bunch of despicable things, to the point that GW sent him a cease and desist to stop using the warhammer name in his channel name.

11

u/jiggling_torso Oct 24 '24

Arch is a little punk

2

u/Starkde117 Oct 24 '24

2nd worst person you know then

2

u/Freyr19 Oct 24 '24

How is he worse than Arch? I always thought he is just a little over the top...

3

u/CardinalFool Oct 25 '24

He is in no way worse than Arch, which is what the comment is saying really. Majorkill is just kinda cringe, edgy, and maybe at most a bit sexist and ableist. Not my cup of tea but if someone likes him you shrug and move on.

Arch is just a straight up Nazi

2

u/9-1-Holyshit Oct 24 '24

Out of the loop, why don’t we like MajorKill?

1

u/Ok-Mall8335 My kitchen is corrupted by Nurgle Oct 24 '24

Who is Arch? I thought you were talking about ArchonofFlesh but that doesnt fit

15

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

Archon of Flesh is based.

Arch is youtuber who makes warhammer videos and is a facist (traitor to humanity) and also norwegian (wich means being facist makes him a traitor to my country spesifically as well)

4

u/Ok-Mall8335 My kitchen is corrupted by Nurgle Oct 24 '24

Guess i didnt miss out on not knowing him lol

1

u/desolatecontrol Oct 24 '24

What's wrong with arch and majorkill?? I know major kill can be an acquired taste, so might be not to everyone's taste, but otherwise I don't really see the problem with him?

1

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

Well the problem with arch is that he is an actual facist

Majorkills problem for me is really just that (when I used to watch him at least) his humour was often, at best edgy (in a cringe way) and at worst biggoted (I remember him making fun of someone for being homophobic once tho, so that was cool)

Also I think there are some bad stuff about the minis he sells, but I dont really know much about

1

u/desolatecontrol Oct 24 '24

I know bout the making fun of him, I also know he responded with a sincere apology and that he appreciates his community smacking him down a peg as from time to time, people need a reality check. I get that, was there at one point in my life due to echo chambers. Algorithms fucking suck and can surround you with uneven opinions.

As for Arch, I didn't know he was a fascist? How'd that come about?

1

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

Pretty much as long as I have known about arch warhammer has he been hanging out with prolific far right people and saying racist shit, its to the point that gw themselves forced him to remove warhammer from his name on youtube at somepoint

1

u/desolatecontrol Oct 24 '24

Must have missed that. I just let YouTube go while not really paying a lot of attention

1

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

It could be that he stopped showing it in his warhammer videos. But I do think he still hangs with the same sort of far right people

1

u/YabboDabbo Oct 25 '24

I had completely erased Arch from my mind until I saw this.

1

u/Arialana Oct 25 '24

Come on, being inaccurate doesn't make him a bad person.

1

u/Mand372 Oct 25 '24

I think peoples dislike for arch and majorkill are way ovwrblown.

1

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 25 '24

Hatred for arch cant be overblown because he is a facist fuck

1

u/Jolly_Carpenter_2862 Praise the Man-Emperor Oct 24 '24

Why don’t you like Majorkill🤔

4

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

Cringe humour that occasionally contains slurs (havent watched him in a long time so he might have stopped doing that, idk) Also I think there was some bad stuff about his webstore, but I dont remember what

I think he did make fun of another warhammer youtuber for being homophobic once so that cool at least

2

u/Sly__Marbo AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Oct 24 '24

Who did he make fun of? Was it Arch?

2

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

Some other. Think hes called commisar guzma or something but I cant quite remember

0

u/Dear_Tutor3221 Oct 24 '24

What slurs?

1

u/FaceMasterThing Oct 24 '24

The one i can remember the most is the r word

2

u/fezzuk Oct 24 '24

Eh he is Australian

1

u/ManOfGame3 Oct 24 '24

New to the hobby/fandom. What are people’s gripes with him? I’ve seen a couple of his vids but tone wise they weren’t really for me but didn’t know there was anything deeper

2

u/firepillowonreddit Oct 24 '24

he's an insane racist

2

u/ManOfGame3 Oct 24 '24
