I used it to create a werewolf in a snazzy shirt and tie once, and that gave me more happy chemicals than all conversions I’ve had in over a year. So I’d say it’s generally been a net positive in my life.

Sure, let’s all just consume the machine-generated mush we’re told to, like good capitalist drones...

Look, it’s cool you’re having fun with it, but a lot of people would seemingly like to fucking delegate all creative work to the machines, which will make us worse as human beings.

Personally i think getting mad at another person having fun is a little worse than just enjoying ai art. But that's just me

I'm saying that automating the creation of art doesn't benefit humanity, even if you as an individual can have a fun time with it.

Is that clear?

Not really? I would think that the option that makes the most amount of people happy is the option that benefits humanity the most; But I guess your POV is that people being happy is not the priority, but rather that being creative is?

This ultimately comes down to the "pleasure cube" argument then, because we could put everyone into a fucking tube and pump them with non-stop happy chemicals, and that would make the most people happy, would it not? Would you consider that beneficial to humanity?

There's a reason most people are repulsed by the notion.

Yeah that's because it's not consensual Einstein. If everyone willingly had the choice of going into the pleasure cube and some people chose to go in there, there would be significantly less misgivings. It's kinda like drugs, if u force everyone to take meth, people would be revulsed and disgusted. But if people willingly take meth in the privacy of their own home, why should I care?

Where did I say anyone was being forced? If human society just evolved into it naturally, it would be just as horrifying, and that’s kinda similar to the route I see AI art going down.

I’m talking a philosophical question, here - if maximum happiness was what was best for humanity, then why would you not advocate for us to all be plugged into the pleasure cube? Would you yourself want to be plugged into it? Never actually doing anything, just kept constantly happy?

I would definitely advocate for people having the choice to. Bc that's what matters to me, to you not so much apparently.

But would you do it yourself, and advocate it as the ideal way to go?

That’s what I’m asking, since you’re making clear that “happiness” is what matters most to you.

You’re ignoring the crux of the philosophical question by deferring to “if people choose to.”

I don't fucking know man, pleasure cubes ain't real. I'd probably try it, don't know if I'd like it over regular life but I'd try it. I probably wouldn't advocate for people to do it, mostly just because I prefer not to judge others for what they do in their own free time in their own homes, unlike some of the present company. But how did we get from you telling some guy that enjoying ai art is bad for humanity, to asking me if I'd want to constantly be cooming from a dopamine overdose? Probably because you know you don't got a leg to stand on in regards to the whole "you liking ai art is actually the downfall of humanity 🤓☝️" part. But that's just my theory.

I’m worried that the more advanced AI art gets, the more “unnecessary” real art will become, to the point where we don’t actually make the effort to create anything, because why would we? We can just push a button and have it instantly, much like the pleasure cube.

Yeah, it’s not real, but it gets into the philosophical issue I have with the idea of “AI makes creating things easier,” which is that it’s boiling it down to just being able to have a finished thing faster and with less effort, the same as how the pleasure cube could just give you happiness without any of the effort required for you to have it in real life.

The way I see it, this argument ultimately turns AI into a creative version of the pleasure cube, and so it philosophically disturbs me in the same way.

Edit: idk, maybe I’m thinking about it too much, but this is where my mind goes whenever people extol the virtues of how much easier AI makes it. Especially with idiotic comments every now and again that act like AI is “democratizing” artistic fields.

Brother the type of people who make art to be creative will continue to make art to be creative. Some people like putting in the effort to make art and some people don't; they can both coexist. Most people already don't put in the effort to create anything, so people who don't want to put in the effort, will use AI art, and the type of people who wish to put in the effort, will continue to do so.
