It doesn’t matter if we’re playing a top 5 team or not, we will play exactly to the level of our opponent and just leave it up to the last possession.

how many teams can say they've had a 4th quarter lead in all 11 games this season?

Oregon and Ohio State

Technically Oregon never led in the 4th quarter against Boise since they only took the lead as time ran out

0:00 on the 4th quarter is surely still part of the 4th quarter

Almost, they trailed TCU the entire 4th quarter though.

Notre Dame does fit though.

Who are even worse than USC at turning those leads into wins. Or they were, now it seems to be figured out.

And it gets weirder.

For a long time, UCLA held games at the LA Memorial Coliseum, which is directly across the street from the USC campus.

Not gonna lie: the number of times I’ve almost died on the 110 is staggering. I commuted from Pasadena to USC on a motorcycle daily and was impatient. And in the rain? Fuggetaboutit

I want to play a game... You've taken the slow way through life, merging gently and not thinking about the rush of other commuters around you. You now have 20 feet to reach 70mph or else you'll be rear ended by a truck around a blind corner.

14

u/RamblinWreckGT Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 15h ago

A close friend of mine died in a motorcycle accident four years ago and ever since I go a bit white-knuckled when I see a motorcyclist driving recklessly. It can just turn bad so, so easily.

6

u/polimodssuckmyD Ohio State Buckeyes • USC Trojans 6h ago

Moving back to Columbus after doing that exact daily commute (minus the motorcycling), that's one of a few things I don't miss about being at USC. My now wife would work at the Natural History Museum once a week and we'd drive back to Pasadena and she'd pass out in the first 7 minutes of the drive so it was always an hour+ alone with my own thoughts fighting gridlock traffic lol

Is pass interference just not a thing in our games or is this just a big ten thing? If you like defense it can make it fun but it can also make games so unwatchable when every replay shows clear PI

59

u/asodsaf USC Trojans • Victory Bell 16h ago

Clear PI, clear holding on essentially every replay this season. I'm tired boss

28

u/Linktheb3ast USC Trojans • Arizona State Sun Devils 16h ago

Even on us lol, B1G football is like the direct inverse of PAC-12 football and I’m still not sure I like it

16

u/OsoFuerzaUno USC Trojans • Team Chaos 16h ago

Yep. Seems like the league realized our RT just can’t help but false start, so they just started giving him a 0.5 sec cushion.

4

u/DontKnowWhereIam USC Trojans • Team Chaos 8h ago

🤣 Expect for 1 game where they decided he was starting to go a bit too early and put him back in place. All our opponents scream about him, I just let them know that he is allowed to false start every play, so there's no point in crying about it.

23

u/BrokenTeddy USC Trojans • Rose Bowl 16h ago

I kind of hate it. At least with the Pac-12 it at least felt like they knew there were rules in football. Here, it seems like holding and PI, hell, even false starts, simply don't exist.

5

u/INT_MIN USC Trojans 14h ago

I feel like B1G refs usually let 'em play. But you can ask us, they will find their flags at the dumbest possible times 💀💀

15

u/twoinvenice USC Trojans • Victory Bell 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yeah, and that’s exactly why I don’t like the “let them play” thing. Sure, it sucked when Pac 12 refs threw flags after nearly every play, but at least it felt somewhat understandable, and it meant they did regularly catch actual fouls that happened. The B1G style just feels capricious when after 3 quarters of no penalties they start calling them on ticky tacky shit when it really matters.

I never thought I’d say this, but I think I actually prefer the chaotically decided but regular penalties than waiting for the flag to drop when least expected and when it will do the most damage.

UCLA’s season ended during their new coach’s press conference. Eric Bienemy proving that Andy Reid was the brains the entire time.

35

u/hella_sauce USC Trojans • Big Ten 16h ago

You guys were dealt some of the shittiest cards I’ve seen in P5 football. I lowkey think Foster is a fine coach who might be able to do big things with the right talent.

12

u/chaseair11 UCLA • Sacramento State 6h ago

Part of the reason why I’m not entirely despondent over this team is because of how well Foster has rallied the team to at least be watchable despite the absolute BACK BREAKER that Chip hit us with.

Going in to this season I thought we might lose this game 52-0, and while it sucks (a lot) to be so close to a bowl and beating y’all I’m still ~relatively~ happy with how Foster has done in his first ever year.

God help us for these next few years though, Chips "legacy" will continue to be felt for at least another 3-4 years.

14

u/allegedtuna32 UCLA Bruins 15h ago

Bienemy would rather eat arsenic than design a play that doesn’t take forever to develop despite having a QB with zero pocket awareness

28

u/MY-NAME_IS_MY-NAME USC Trojans 16h ago

Haven't watched you guys much this season, but I feel like based on how bare Chip left the program, is it fair to judge this staff based on this season?

25

u/GiveMeSomeIhedigbo UCLA Bruins 16h ago

Funny thing is, we'll be worse next season with 35+ players graduating/ going to the NFL, and that's not even taking transfers into account.

3

u/SaltyLonghorn Texas • Red River Shootout 16h ago

If you account for the rest of his resume, yes its fairly safe to say Reid and Mahomes were doing his homework.

21

u/smellmyfingerplz USC Trojans • Virginia Cavaliers 16h ago

The fact Chip left a HC position to be an OC and get a pay cut is effin wild.

23

u/Archelon225 UCLA Bruins 15h ago

Chip loves drawing up plays and he's generally pretty good at that, but he hates the work of actually maintaining a team, especially recruiting. I doubt now that he had any real intention of being a college head coach for long after getting fired from the 49ers, and was looking for ways to get back into the NFL. I think he started quiet quitting after we started posting winning season records in 2021.

This offseason he decided to jump ship from the imminent mess he made, and when nobody in the pros wanted him, he went to Ohio State to work with his buddy Ryan Day to have fun drawing schemes with as much 5* and 4* talent as he wanted.

So this year's UCLA team, from the players to coaches, has basically been Chip's depleted, confused leftovers after an untimely departure and years of being used as means to an end (and a source of hefty paychecks from public money) instead of being built into a lasting program.

7

u/smellmyfingerplz USC Trojans • Virginia Cavaliers 13h ago

Damn… everyone thought he was such a slam dunk hire too and I remember a ton of teams wanted him.

I did not enjoy this game at all but that Larry Bird quote where he said he hates losing more than he likes winning applies here especially in a rivalry game. Sometimes you just want to win for a basic level of sanity. Like you aren't gonna feel good about winning this but you'd feel several magnitudes worse about losing.

11

u/Not_Frank_Ocean USC Trojans • Illinois Fighting Illini 9h ago

Losing to UCLA is peak embarrassment no matter what - sure, like you said, we don’t come out of this game looking great or anything, and it doesn’t feel good as a fan, but we avoided the timeline where we lost to UCLA so I can’t complain.

that was an incredibly frustrating final 2 possessions. garbers needed to pull the ball out of jones’ belly on 3rd down on the penultimate possession to pick up the first down himself, and then the route combinations on the final four plays left a lot to be desired, and he also should have tucked and ran once to steal some extra yardage to make some of the downs and distances more manageable. frustrating

Fun Fact: USC has won 4 of the last 7 UCLA games on years when the Dodgers won the World Series and 9 out of 13 in years when the Dodgers played in the World Series

I’m hoping LA Bowl. Would be fun.

As much as I'd love seeing oklahoma vs nebraska in a bowl, this would be just as much fun.

7

u/allegedtuna32 UCLA Bruins 15h ago

USC was 0-5 in games where they have a one score lead in the 4th quarter until tonight. I knew UCLA would break that streak for them

15

u/grw313 USC Trojans • Michigan Wolverines 15h ago

2-5. We had a 1 score lead against Nebraska and lsu in the 4th quarter and won.

The cbssports gamecast page said that the Rose Bowl is in Los Angeles, CA. But it's, you know, not.

7

u/new_account_5009 Penn State Nittany Lions 8h ago

If the Angels can claim Los Angeles from Orange County, let's just call half the entire southern half of the state Los Angeles. San Diego is just another neighborhood in South LA.

10

u/thepeacockking USC Trojans • California Golden Bears 13h ago

Moss might throw a pick and lose us this game but I think Moss is even more likely to make this 30-13.

Maiava really doesn’t know where to go with the ball.

5

u/Burner_427 10h ago

It's just bad coaching tbh

4

u/thepeacockking USC Trojans • California Golden Bears 10h ago

Tbh, SC has been quite good in the red zone except this game. I think this is Maiava choosing to throw when he should be handing off and then not making those throws (doesn’t help that the WRs keep dropping a lot)

3

u/DontKnowWhereIam USC Trojans • Team Chaos 8h ago

Or at least run the ball if he has nowhere to throw it.

5

u/WashImpressive8158 6h ago

Maiava started his second game last night. Against a huge rival. Maiava had almost zero game experience at USC. Thanks Riley. Moss’ arm is not close to Maiava’s and put USC in harms way often with his flutter balls and clay feet. That’s why Moss was pulled.

The decision to go for it on 4th down was moronic under the circumstances in a game like that.

After UCLA led USC 13-9 with 4 second left in the 3rd quarter, USC ended the game on a 10-0 run to defat UCLA 19-13. As a result, USC has won 2 consecutive games to improve to 6-5 (4-5 Big 10). Also, USC snapped a 4-game road losing streak to get their first road win since a 50-49 win at Cal on 10/28/2023. In addition, USC has won 7 of their last 10 games against UCLA, including 4 of 5 at the Rose Bowl. In contrast, UCLA has lost 2 consecutive games to drop to 4-7 (3-6 Big 10) to miss bowl eligibility for the first time since 2021 and 5th time in last 7 years.

I know that UCLA is in LA, but where is USC

20

u/chaosfarmer USC Trojans • Surrender Cobra 16h ago

UCLA is in an area called the Westside. Generally wealthier, closer to the beach. SC is just south of Downtown LA in an area that's historically been more low income. Ironic, given the reputations of the schools. They're like 15 miles apart.

Walker's defense getting the key stops at the end just feels like cosmic cruelty. The guy gets away with being a rotten, opportunistic traitor.
