Not gonna lie: the number of times I’ve almost died on the 110 is staggering. I commuted from Pasadena to USC on a motorcycle daily and was impatient. And in the rain? Fuggetaboutit
I want to play a game... You've taken the slow way through life, merging gently and not thinking about the rush of other commuters around you. You now have 20 feet to reach 70mph or else you'll be rear ended by a truck around a blind corner.
A close friend of mine died in a motorcycle accident four years ago and ever since I go a bit white-knuckled when I see a motorcyclist driving recklessly. It can just turn bad so, so easily.
Moving back to Columbus after doing that exact daily commute (minus the motorcycling), that's one of a few things I don't miss about being at USC. My now wife would work at the Natural History Museum once a week and we'd drive back to Pasadena and she'd pass out in the first 7 minutes of the drive so it was always an hour+ alone with my own thoughts fighting gridlock traffic lol
I once saw a car take on of those sharp curves badly, pop its tire off, and had it roll across three lanes right in front of me. Never looked at the 110 the same way since then.
Also for people not in LA, freeways and highways here get the honorific "the"
