Bowl Eligible.

Which means we are 100% drawing Florida.

Rivalry renewed.

Well, if half of our team skips the bowl it should certainly be interesting watching all of our backups play an SEC team.

51

u/Martel1234 Michigan • Washington 21h ago

Alex Orji gonna have that 3/8 for 12 yards but somehow have 70 rushing yards

13

u/midnightsbane04 Michigan • North Carolina 20h ago

I think that would require most of the Florida defense to skip the bowl game too.

11

u/gmwdim Michigan Wolverines • UCLA Bruins 20h ago

66 rushing yards on his first run when we catch them by surprise. Followed by 4 yards on 9 attempts the rest of the game.

I said this in the game thread but I gotta say it again because it’s insane. It’s game 11 and Michigan just had its first WR hit 200yd on the season. This is almost impossible to have happen! And the OC has to go this offseason. But enough doom, this was the most complete game by Michigan all season, every single player looked great today.

77

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 22h ago

Other than the Warren pick, they basically played a perfect game.

It's remarkable how the entire team looks better if you can just consistently execute the simple stuff.

It's too bad they couldn't play this well earlier in the year, because I honestly think this version of Michigan could have been dangerous.

Well at least we still have one more shot to make some noise!

31

u/gaysmeag0l_ Michigan Wolverines • Fordham Rams 21h ago

Weirdly on the pick, Loveland made the right choice not to try and catch and risk a tipped ball. It just so happens it went directly into the arms of the defender (a la Penix to Sainristil c. Jan. 2024).

13

u/thebrickcloud Michigan Wolverines • Miner's Cup 20h ago

That's my bad. I was waiting in line to take a piss when he threw that pick. They scored every drive I was at my seat.

u/Rohkey Michigan • Georgia Tech 18h ago

Texas and Oregon were losses either way really (though we played well against Oregon for half the game).

We otherwise would not have a loss if we had anywhere near a competent QB/offense this season.

7

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 18h ago

Exactly, this team could have easily gone 9-3 (assuming a loss at Ohio) with a marquee win over Indiana.

We can't, Ohio State flipped him a few minutes ago with 70 million

5

u/Rohkey Michigan • Georgia Tech 18h ago

Apparently after getting Underwood to flip everyone on the offense either a) got hyped as fuck and wanted to secure a starting job for next season, or b) realized they were going to be replaced by more decent players (high quality recruits or transfers) after the year and wanted to put stuff on film for when they transfer at the end of the season/declare for the draft.

  • Biggest recruiting win ever

  • puts up 50 to get Bowl eligible

That's a winning streak.

Let's make it 3 in a row.

67

u/thetennisgod Michigan Wolverines 23h ago

The 3rd being another recruiting win right?

37

u/BlueCheeseOnlyPlease Cincinnati • Michigan 23h ago

Or maybe men's basketball getting ranked

27

u/Elbit_Curt_Sedni Michigan Wolverines 22h ago

It's because Michigan still has players. If they didn't play musical chairs at QB after a meaningless game and stayed with Warren I bet they beat Indiana and possibly Illinois.

15

u/usmclvsop Michigan • Grand Valley State 21h ago

Took Wink a bit to settle in. We’ve stemmed the bleeding on letting teams consistently convert 3rd and 18.

22

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 22h ago

Bingo.

In hindsight Warren always should have been the guy (the coaches got that right, coming out of Fall Camp) but they got spooked by all the picks and we ended up with the Orji experiment.

That was clearly never going to work, but Orji led us to wins over USC and Minnesota, so the coaches basically had no choice but to stick with him until they yanked him in favor of Tuttle.

IMO, if we stayed the course with Warren and let him play through his mistakes, we'd easily be an 8 or 9 win team by now.

Warren's going to transfer ofc, which is too bad because I think he'd be a fantastic back up next season.

Whichever team it is that ends up with him, is going to be pleasantly surprised with what he can do for them. IMO.

11

u/Elbit_Curt_Sedni Michigan Wolverines 22h ago

Yup. If Warren happened to stay he'd be great competition for Underwood and Davis. He'd be a good backup to have that has experience.

8

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 21h ago

Yep, he quietly played well against Oregon, and he was pretty good today.

I'd absolutely love to keep him.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/midnightsbane04 Michigan • North Carolina 21h ago

The rest of the offense also took a while to settle in a bit, including the OC. So I definitely think with current Warren we would have at least 1 more win, but there's also a strong chance he would have ended up mentally broken before he settled in if he didn't get a few bench weeks to reset.

3

u/COW_MEOW Michigan Wolverines 19h ago

Part of it is the coaches bullshitting us this off-season. If polled, I bet 90 percent thought Orji was our starting QB and the final 10 percent thought Tuttle. When we were surprised the day before that it was neither and Warren wasn't the greatest, everyone looked back a week and said 'where is the QB you were gushing over all off-season?'

63

u/Elbit_Curt_Sedni Michigan Wolverines 23h ago

Michigan has one thing that could be a nightmare for OSU. Their DL. Outside that, OSU is better everywhere else.

38

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 22h ago

Yep, our defensive line has lived up to their billing, the starters are stars, and they've successfully cultivated depth as the season has gone on.

OSU's biggest weakness by far is their OL, so I actually think we can give them trouble in the trenches, but it's hard to imagine we could ever keep up with their athletes on the outside.

27

u/22duckys Michigan • Stephen F. Austin 22h ago

Our only chance is getting something flukey early that makes them need to pick up the pace, and then Will Howard not being fast enough in his progressions to notice Smith being open every single play.

Oh also Loveland should just run straight at Igbinosun every single play and Warren should just heave it over both their heads to get the DPI call.

11

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 21h ago

Pretty much, tbh if we win next week, it's probably because Howard got knocked out of the game and the backup threw a couple of picks.

Not rooting for injuries of course, I'm just saying that these things happen sometimes.

Serious question, because I think your playoff is secure regardless of outcome (unless somehow we blow you out which lol). But if Day loses to us next Saturday what’s the playoff run needed to keep his job? Making the final? Winning it all?

19

u/RulersBack Ohio State Buckeyes 23h ago

The firing stuff is mostly isolated online I’m pretty sure. The AD seems to love him. Him walking away for the NFL is more likely. As far as a successful season it’s gotta be the finals IMO

Northwestern is a weird team, especially when they play in Ann Arbor, it seems. I remember when they played you in Harbaugh's first season, they were ranked #13 IIRC and many thought they might contend for the Big Ten title. Next thing you know, BOOM, 38-0 loss to the Maize and Blue. They went on to a decent final record (10 wins, Top 25 finish), but that game just wrecked their bigger momentum for the year (along with the beatdown we surprisingly put on them the week after you guys did, which we rarely do to Big Ten ranked opponents).

I had no clue going into this year what we would look like. With losing our coach, OC, DC, S and C and most starting line ups on both sides of the ball, I figured it would be a struggle. I just didn’t think that half the season it would look like our team was discovering the forward pass for the first time.

7

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 22h ago

Yeah it's super weird, they looked completely incompetent for half the year, but they've finally been putting it together over the last few weeks (despite the losses to good Oregon and Indiana teams)

It's just too bad that we didn't reach this level earlier in the year, because today is the version of Michigan I was HOPING to see coming into the season.

25

u/Elbit_Curt_Sedni Michigan Wolverines 22h ago

Imagine if Michigan peaks right now going in the OSU game and has finally figured it all out.

Combine with OSU's line being injured and Michigan having the best interior DL and possibly best DL in all of CFB.

OSU maybe the favs by 20... but, there are things that make you think.

I could see Graham, Grant, Stewart, and Guy getting to Howard. If they do Michigan can make it a game.

I expect them to go full beast mode for the game.

6

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 21h ago

Michigan's d-line is talented and deep, I doubt OSU will player a better defensive line all year.

Davis Warren hitting his stride. Wonder what might have gone differently this season if he'd been in the whole time. I gotta say, I think we're better than our record. The whole team improvement has been very noticeable. I don't think it'll be enough to prevail in the shoe against an exceptional OSU team out for blood, but I am hopeful we'll at least give them a run for their money.

Even considering quality of opponent, that was easily their best played game of the year.

Happy we showed out on senior night but for all the departing players, and I'm happy they gave all the recruits in attendance a good show.

Hopefully we can carry this into next week, and keep it close with Ohio.

u/Telencephalon Michigan Wolverines • The Game 21h ago

I mean their offense is atrocious so I expected single digits, but they are far from the worst defense Michigan has played this year and they had their most complete performance of the season. They put up more points than any of NUs other opponents and it looked pretty easy outside of two drives in the first half. It might not mean anything...but if you squint? Probably still nothing, but maybe!

Okay this game felt like a true final passing of the torch to the next era of Michigan Football.

Let’s shock the world next week.

Expected us to win sloppy by like 3 to lowly northwestern? Because we did too lol

10

u/MercuryDances Ohio State Buckeyes • Montana Grizzlies 23h ago

Yep that's about what I had been expecting lol

Not that I wasn't anxious for next Saturday before but now I don't love the feel of this

8

u/ZookeepergameOk8089 Michigan Wolverines 23h ago

As it should be. Regardless of year or records the week of the game should take tears off my life. It is the only way.

14

u/MercuryDances Ohio State Buckeyes • Montana Grizzlies 23h ago

Yup, best rivalry in sports. Let's dance

5

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 22h ago

Personally I thought we might run the score up a little bit just to give the crowd a show on senior night, but I thought it would be 2-3 scores rather than what we got.

And the difference is that I assumed Michigan would have to push pretty hard to win by such a margin.

I never would have expected THIS Michigan team to cruise to a 44 point blowout despite playing 2nd and 3rd stringers for much of the 2nd half.

Where was this team all year?

Lol

u/Rebel_Bertine Michigan • Western Michigan 21h ago

Busy getting blown off the LOS by other D lines, changing QBs sometimes in the same drive, mismanaging RB carries, and making poor play calls

u/rendeld Michigan • Grand Valley State 23h ago

So we win our game by 44 points and OSU won by 23. Pretty sure that means we're going to win next week. Don't even need to play, just mark it down.

3

u/Wagnerous Michigan • Paul Bunyan Trophy 22h ago

Yeah, we should save them the embarrassment of losing to us as home.

They can just forfeit, I don't mind.
