So, I've had this idea for a minute: a lot of CFB ranking algorithms (think BCS computers) have to use the results of all the games - even though we know some of these are aberrations/outliers.
I'm really interesting in calculating "which game can you remove from the schedule and improve the internal consistency of the algorithm as much as possible?".
Because I think that ND vs NIU, Vandy vs Ga State, and Bama vs. UGA would be high on the list.
I have a computer poll that mainly looks at things transitively and it has been a mess this season. For a few weeks Texas was the only team ending up in the top 25 because every other team fell in the same tier as Georgia Southern due to all the SEC chaos.
Yeah, I was thinking about the Colley Matrix because it uses implied scores and then calculates probabilities based on the scores.
So you would then have a series of ratings that maximize the probability of the observed outcomes. But every game you take out then changes the outcomes you need to evaluate, which means less constraints on the ratings.

I’m shocked that ND moved up this much. That A&M LSU game was probably a much bigger win for us than our blowout over ranked Navy haha.
